Since his cold streak this year I came to the feeling that maybe Filppula's biggest supporters wouldn't actually see him discover his 55-65 point potential unless he was on a team that REALLY needed him to be that good. The Wings have Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, etc. He might feel that he can just play a patient game because the bulk of the pressure is on them and not him. Now that Datsyuk and Cleary are out he feels the need to step up. But what about when they come back?

I think it was McCarty who once said something along the lines of, "If you ask any player in the league who the best players are they'll name some popular names and then you ask them, 'What about Nick Lidstrom?' they'll say, 'Oh yeah! Him too.'"

While it is a mistake imo, it shouldn't be all that surprising to the Detroit media or to anyone, really. Lidstrom to this day is under-appreciated simply because most fans aren't trained to notice the subtle plays he makes in order to dominate a game. The casual fan gravitates to not only players with outstanding offensive numbers but also plainly apparent flash and style. It's why Lidstrom is under-appreciated by fans (Red Wings fans included) and even in Sweden as images like Forsberg and the Sedin twins gain more popularity. However, the most important thing to note is that to some fans along with good scouts and coaches, people with trained eyes so to speak, do notice Nick out there.

Well, he would only get away with that if he was on the Pens.

Anybody think the event gained significantly more viewers because of the shift to later at night?

I'm not so sure about the whole whoever comes out of the west will beat the east because of how competitive the west is idea. It's a long season and teams in the west can definitely get worn out from beating on each other all the time.

Don't worry. Someday he might be a full fledged Red Wing having learned the system of how to celebrate goals as boringly as he can.

Sucks for Pulkkinen and Jarnkrok. They were having fantastic performances but then topped it off as they made one crucial mistake to end their chances to play more games and redeem themselves.

It fits. He's an agitator; a guy who plays on the edge; possibly prone to a bad penalty here and there. But Pulu and Iron were having great tournaments until their f***ups. Now they made one mistake that could overshadow their whole performance. At least, in their minds that is. Callahan hasn't been AS great. He might still be progressing on his way up before the eventual costly mistake.

They also didn't start on time but got better as the game went along. Maybe we should call that Red Wings syndrome. A type of behavior that if you attack them hard early on you give yourself a good chance to win.

Sweden's third shooter had the right idea I think. They weren't going to beat that goalie low.

So much obvious freaking skill in this RUS and SWE game. That was what I wanted to see in last year's Olympics. Oh, and notice how Adam Larsson is #5? Hehe. I wish the Wings could get a top pick to have a chance to get him.
