I think it'd be awesome if some of the fans wrote a song to sing/chant for the Wings. Think it'll happen? If so then you better get to work!

KHL will honor NHL's decision on Hudler

http://slapshot.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/...sion-on-hudler/ July 16, 2009, 11:33 am Medvedev Says K.H.L. Will Honor N.H.L. Decision on Hudler By Jeff Z. Klein Is peace breaking out between the K.H.L. and N.H.L.? In his first public statement on the international dispute over Detroit forward Jiří Hudler, K.H.L. president Alexander Medvedev sounded a conciliatory note, saying on Thursday that the Russian league would wait for an N.H.L. arbitrator’s decision on Hudler’s status with the Red Wings before registering the contract the player signed with Dinamo Moscow. Medvedev made the remarks in Zurich after a meeting with I.I.H.F. president René Fasel, telling the Russian daily Sport-Express that the K.H.L. “will not register Hudler’s contract, pending the outcome of the N.H.L. arbitration.†Medvedev, citing the good will generated by the Atlanta Thrashers’ decision to withdraw an offer from Joel Kwiatkowski because the defenseman already had signed with SKA St. Petersburg, vowed Thursday to work with the I.I.H.F. to uphold the “gentlemen’s agreement†between the two leagues not to poach players. That vow, he said, included awaiting the N.H.L. arbitrator’s decision on Hudler’s Detroit contract. Hudler took the Red Wings to salary arbitration late last month, then signed a two-year deal with Dinamo on July 8. The N.H.L. argues that by taking the Wings to arbitration, Hudler chose to stay with Detroit should the arbitrator find in the Wings’ favor or should the Wings agree to pay what Hudler asks. The I.I.H.F. agreed to the N.H.L.’s request not to issue a transfer card to Hudler, effectively preventing him from playing for Dinamo. Hudler’s arbitration hearing is scheduled for July 31. Should the arbitrator rule for the Red Wings’ bid, believed to be for $3 million a year, Medvedev’s statement indicates that the K.H.L. would honor the decision and not register Hudler’s Dinamo contract. But if the arbitrator rules for Hudler’s bid, believed to be for $4 million a year, the Red Wings would have to choose between paying Hudler that amount or letting him go. That, presumably, would open the way for the K.H.L. to register the Dinamo contract and allow Hudler to join the old Interior Ministry club. Hudler made $1.15 million last season with Detroit and turned down a multiple-year offer that would have paid him $3 million annually. After filing for arbitration, he accepted a $2 million-a-year offer from Dinamo that is reckoned to be worth $5 million per season in North American terms after factoring in tax breaks and benefits. Medvedev also said he hopes for a fair outcome to what may be a similar situation with Evgeny Dadonov, a Florida Panthers prospect assigned to A.H.L. Rochester, but who reportedly signed an earlier two-year deal with Traktor Chelyabinsk.

    strange news on winter classic

Just curious, are they even aware of the degree of lucky breaks their team got?

    Team Russia

Zetterberg versus Datsyuk for the gold. I like it. Although Z will probably play against whoever is the best scoring line at the time and given the names that scream offensive firepower on Team Russia, it's very hard to tell who's going to have the hot hand. It doesn't appear all that likely but I like Sweden for a repeat. Though I reserve the right to change my mind if Lidstrom decides not to play.

Biggest Gaffe in the new CBA

In the NBA, the veteran's minimum is 1.3mil. That's what I meant. I should've specified. It's interesting though since the NBA's cap is only like one or two million higher than the NHL's. Edit: I forgot. This whole thing was inspired by news of Ben Wallace possibly coming to Detroit and taking the veteran's minimum. He's 34 and he qualifies for it somehow.

    The "Flying V" Isn't Offside!

There's quite a bit of textbook prejudice within those movies. D1 and D3 were all about socioeconomic status. D2 was more about those evil oversized Europeans against the underdog Americans... Please. Plus, I understand the setting is California but a bunch of underprivileged minorities playing street hockey in the ghetto? I'm not saying they can't I'm just saying that's quite a case of dramatic license.

My goodness that was brilliant. I seriously lol'd. If only Datsyuk had pulled one on them in 07 for both of them to break the hardest bone in the body. I've heard worse. Femurs heal. Well, eventually. They'd live. Comments from St. Louis Blues Fans who wish they could bomb Joe Louis Arena seriously take the cake in terms of "bad person" comments.

Holmstrom speculates that this is his last season

Of course every champion is lucky. I'm just wondering how much luckier they were compared to past champions, not just the year before.

Holmstrom speculates that this is his last season

I've been wondering for the past few weeks as to where the Pens rank in terms of luckiest champions. Obviously they played hard and earned that cup as much as they could but there's no doubt they were on the upper end in terms of luck.

Jan Mursak D+ Mursak recreated himself in the second half to become a hustling, energy winger who was not afraid to hit, despite his small stature. After adapting his game, he even had some modest offensive success, scoring 6 points in 20 games and firing 53 shots on goal in that span. His strong play down the stretch even helped him get some playing time in the playoffs. Mursak is another young player that should be ready to have a better start next season after working through a difficult freshman year.

Zherdev mentions Detroit as an option

The Wings have to be objective. They run a hockey club and they care about one thing - Winning. In order to do that, they need the right personnel. While it's true that the car accident derailed his skating ability, all that should matter to the Wings is that Grigorenko couldn't keep up with the North American pace. For better or for worse, that's their job.

Zherdev mentions Detroit as an option

In Nikolai's first year as a Jacket, Rick Nash by comparison was a -35. Eeesh. It's strange though, besides his first year, in comparison to the rest of his teammates, Zherdev was always one of the worst in regards to plus minus when he was a Jacket. But in this past year with the Rangers, he's near the top. Put him with the Red Wings, he learns a thing or two about defense, he'll probably be just fine theoretically.

I should've been more specific. I should've said similar type of role in that he'll barely be a borderline top-6 player on the Wings. I didn't mean to insult Hudler's skill with that comment. My bad. One of the few things I agree with Eva on is that I thought Hudler was without a doubt the 2nd best on the team when it came to threading the needle. Do I imagine Emmerton playing on the Wings one day? Yes. Do I imagine him ever cracking the top-6? Not without injuries. Do I think he'll ever play the power play? Not without injuries. He's got some good skill and from what I remember he gets a lot of his assists off low shots that lead to rebounds. Oh, and like Babcock, do I like to answer my own questions? Damn right.

If he does play I hope it's on the wing so that he can get used to it.

Biggest Gaffe in the new CBA

In the NBA, you can sign a player to the veteran's minimum and it won't count against the cap. I wish the NHL would allow for this. The Wings probably could've retained Hossa had this option been available.

True, but not for a lack of trying from what I remember. He put on a little too much weight than he can handle. I expect a good year from him.
