Prrrow!...

So it wasn't so much Rockstrom that's responsible for Lidstrom but rather Meehan? A North American? Wow.
-
I'm tired of people calling Cleary's goal a fluke goal. Zetterberg threw the puck to the net and Cleary deflected it, which slightly threw off Hiller's balance and then the puck went through. Whatever bounces they got were clearly earned.

Different year. Sid and Geno are better. The Red Wings defense in comparison to last year... not so much.

Ericsson's done a lot of good work. I'm very impressed with him overall. His work along the boards against CBJ and ANA was magnificent. And check out Babs' presser earlier today. He talked about his skill set in a more specific manner. I've just had a little concern lately. Is it me or does he seem to struggle with teams that have speedy forwards? Or is it just rookie side-effects? Or maybe going from Nick as a dman partner to Brett Lebda? I'm sure that whatever it is, positioning, whatever, he'll improve next season. I just wanted to get some thoughts on him.

Ok, I'm really confused now... When are the finals going to start? They'll move them up if DET wins later today? Or they're considering it as in it's not final? Can anyone break it down for me please? Also, is it set in stone that the first two games will be back to back? God I wish I could punch whoever is responsible in the face for that. It looks so stupid and ridiculous. When was the last time a major sport had back to back games in a league finals series? This scheduling crap was supposed to be set already. It's not only confusing it's also incredibly frustrating and stupid.

The Wings will probably bring out a different animal in the Pens. They will have that bitter edge that comes with being beaten before. They will turn it up like no other against the team that beat them last year. I find it interesting how we Wings fans perceive the Pens' depth considering that their fans feel as if the depth has been the best they've seen in a while. I think we're really underestimating Pittsburgh's depth. Sure, on paper, they don't appear to be as good as the Wings. But they have some pretty good players on that team that know how to win. Their supporting cast is doing a lot of good things too and they shouldn't be dismissed so hastily. I don't mean for this to be a crack at anyone in particular but are we really forming fair opinions of the Pens? What I'm talking about is having watched a variety of their games and evaluating both good and bad aspects of their play and not just exaggerating the bad to create the delusion that they're not that good. So we call them a "two-man" team with "no depth." It makes us Wings fans perceive them as less of a threat, makes us feel better, doesn't mean it's a fair assessment. I'm confident in how competitive the Wings are and their work ethic and the way they prepare themselves. They just need to worry about themselves. Of course, the Wings have to put away Chicago first. Other than that I'm not going to take any shots at another team or make any predictions until I've seen a game because, for better or for worse, the Pens are much different this year.

This will be the toughest game to win.
-
I don't mean to come off as turning on him. I'm just evaluating and questioning why his play has been different in this series in comparison to the previous two. Just speculating. That's all.

Is that the right stat? I remember someone posting that it was 40 years or something like that.

Bump again. Sorry I just really love these vids. "Lidstrom from red line!"

I've written something like this before but this version is more refined. Dude, the Wings lost game 6 against the Ducks in what might have been one of their worst efforts. I'm sure the Pens cannot wait to get at the Wings, the team that beat them last year. That's just a natural edge that they'll have being the former loser. The Wings will have to match if not exceed their intensity, which we all know has been a problem even in the playoffs. For the most part, I'm pretty confident in the Wings but that is my only doubt because it has been a frustrating pattern this year.

Does this board allow for HTML tags?

For the most part, yeah they're mad but we would be too if we were on the other end of that gesture. All normal reactions except for those few that wanted a power play and a ten minute misconduct for it.
-
Kind of what I thought. Freedom is a great thing - the aggressive style you mentioned; as well as knowing your coach trusts you. He seems really impressive.
-
No. There's a good chance the Wings will win on Tuesday. And someone here mentioned that the team that has the most rest hasn't won in the finals in 40 years or something like that. Kind of a weird stat.
-
Question. What kind of effect has Dan Bylsma had on the team? And how? Did he just set Sid and Geno free from MT's trap system or is he a great motivator or both...?
-
HAHAHA!!! "It was right there, couldn't resist," said Franzen. Dan Cleary can be seen smiling in the Youtube vid. "I've never seen that," said Cleary. "It was only the three of us, the ref, the linesman, that really had a good feel for it. It was just funny how the whole thing went down. He (Kane) was mad." http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/2009/05...outh-guard.html That 'couldn't resist' quote reminds me of Jack Sparrow and his coin trick.
-
I've mostly seen Franzen be a net-front presence on the power play but not 5-on-5. He's good enough so that he can be the main shooter on whatever line he's on. For guys like Holmstrom and somewhat Cleary (although he has a pretty hard and accurate shot as well), they're immediate instinct is to stay at the net and let everyone else handle the puck.
-
Guess who, according to Franzen, deserves more credit for the way the Filppula-Hossa combo played? "Homer is creating a lot of room for those two, always driving the middle and driving the net," Franzen said. "They seem to fit each other well." - http://www.freep.com/article/20090526/SPOR...0428/1053/rss17 That's right... "Ninety-Sux"

You all couldn't be more wrong. It's Kopy that will get it. After all, he's the one who felt as if he had to send a message that the Wings won't back down. And he doesn't regret that one bit...
-
You sure that's not what they want? Some of the earlier thread comments and insults from Wings fans just reek of insecurity, which might be worse than getting angry.
-
I don't see how Babs shouldn't keep them together. (Yet, he probably won't). Hoss mentioned that he was just trying to keep things simple and just go to the net, put the puck on net, yadda yadda. Since I wasn't specifically watching for this, was he not going to net before? If so... Why? Also, from an offensive point of view: -Z wants possession of the puck until he can dish it off to start a give and go. -Pav wants possession of the puck until he can set up a one-timer, which isn't the greatest idea since we've heard Babs say over and over that goals aren't one and done in the playoffs; they're a lot more dirty than that. -Fil seems a lot more willing to give up the puck earlier and in areas that Hossa likes. Again, from an offensive point of view, I don't see how Babs shouldn't keep them together. But from a defensive point of view, Fil has the speed and smarts to be responsible and to really give that 3rd line an awesome two-way threat. It's the only reason I can think of as to why Babs wants Fil on the 3rd line. Helm isn't quite as good as Fil in that regard. At least not yet.

Dear Wings fans, and Pens fans if it applies, please stop taking the bait. Like someone mentioned before, fans like those are only trying to goad a reaction out of others and gain some delusion of accomplishment to validate their misperception that they are useful with their free time. They're like the Sean Avery of internet forums. Just let them self-destruct. And since I'm positive they're out there I likewise urge every Wings fan not to behave this way on other teams' forums.
