    Young captain Toews leads Blackhawks

Young captain Jonathan Toews leads Chicago Blackhawks By Dan McGrath Tribune Reporter May 17, 2009 The Blackhawks didn't want to force the captain's responsibilities on Jonathan Toews, but both soon learned he was ready for the job If the Stanley Cup playoffs were a Western movie, Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews would be cast as a sheriff. He's a thoughtful young man with fresh-faced good looks and a polite but serious demeanor. He considers his words before speaking, makes eye contact when he does speak and seems to radiate sincerity. Well put together at 6 feet 2 inches and 209 pounds, Toews ("Taves") carries himself with the easy self-confidence that comes with succeeding in a physical line of work. And if a town -- or a team -- needs cleaning up ... "If your daughter came home with him, you'd be delighted -- he's the kind of kid you'd want for a son-in-law," Blackhawks Chairman Rocky Wirtz said. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hocke...0,5977872.story Also... If that doesn't garner respect from Red Wings fans, nothing will.

    Young captain Toews leads Blackhawks

Depends how bad the whining is. If it's incessant then yeah he'll probably go a notch down. But if it's just captain duty, then you can't really fault him for it. If you wanted to, you could argue that Stevie was a whiner.

    Lilja's status now "Questionable"

Whether I want to admit it or not, Lebda's skating is an asset. If Lils comes back then Big E will have to take on more of an offensive role on that 3rd pair. No big deal but I just don't want the Wings to lose any benefits they get out of Lebs' skating.

    Young captain Toews leads Blackhawks

It helps that Toews doesn't have ridiculous scoring stats like Crosby, which may or may not be because of his dedication to two-way play. But there have been times where he's among the first to kill penalties. Pretty good for his age. For the most part, he's as whiny as any other captain. He just doesn't have Sid's whiny cry baby face that makes it look 10x worse.

    Young captain Toews leads Blackhawks

Well, to be fair, the Wings have had Lidstrom for the past couple of decades. After he retires, then we'll start conniving a way to steal Keith.

Do we finally have our best lineup?

Babs needs to have Ericsson with Nick on the first penalty kill back end. His work along the boards is great. Plus he's much bigger than Stuart, which can help with distracting shots.

That's a much different kind of hate. It has elements of admiration and respect to it. It's not like the hate we all have for Perry and Pronger. Especially Pronger, it's hard for me to believe someone could be such a prick.

Detroit has won 44 Stanley cups.

What about 1659 since tomorrow will be 5/16/09?

Detroit has won 44 Stanley cups.

Uhm... What number should it be? Man this is too much pressure. I don't want to be the one who starts it for a loss.

Speaking of pictures, the game is at 3pm tomorrow. Shouldn't someone have started the 1000 posts thread by now?

    Abdelkader skates on scoring line

If you want a comparison, I think he'll at least be a McCarty type. But we didn't think Johan Franzen would be as good as he is today. It's still possible that Abs can become a power forward.

    Young captain Toews leads Blackhawks

Yep. Zetterberg will have his work cut out for him. You better be treating him right at home.

    Why so many lefties?

Isn't it true that Canadians who grow up playing center are taught to use their dominant hand at the top of the stick? So if they're really right-handed, then they would shoot left. Apparently if you grow up that way then you'll be better at stickhandling or something.

    Abdelkader skates on scoring line

I'm always wary of Abs tendency to take bad penalties. Since he may get more time 5-on-5 then I hope he's wary of staying out of the box.

    Abdelkader skates on scoring line

If they're going to keep the Mule-Z-Bear line intact, then those lines are pretty good. What depth down the middle with Z-Pav-Fil-Helm. Ridiculous.

    Hand Shake Moment

Not really that unique. It happens in many other sports, just not as formally.

    Abdelkader skates on scoring line

If the Hawks are going to put a top line of Sharp-Toews-Kane out there wouldn't you want, respectively, Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary to go after them? I know I would. I think Hossa with Datsyuk has more to do with that than anything else.
