Haha. I liked the look in his eyes when he said "Really?" after hearing about the day off.

I feel like whenever Hossa nets his first goal that afterwards he'll go on a hot streak. I mean, the way he's playing, he's been scrapping for one.

./` Lovers gonna love I don't even want none of the above ./`

I've been to two Jackets forums and neither one had this new press as its own topic. It's probably buried somewhere but I still find it interesting that they don't want to discuss it.

Paid a visit to the Flyers boards and they're really pointing to the refs on this one. Thing is, every fans do that, but it seems like in this case it has some merit. Does it?
-
I can't really watch right now but it seems like Flyers fans are going to YouTube the s*** out of that 'penalty.'

Hey there muscly-armed paper boy... Wanna go down to my cellar and have some popsicles?

I don't know about a DVD since they were only together for about 2 and some years. But definitely like a half hour spotlight special or something like they did for Lidstrom, Zetterberg and Datsyuk. The Wings themselves like to compare Kronwall to Vladdy and with all due respect I think it's unfair to Kronwall because to me Vladdy was first and foremost a pest. Opponents hated to play against him and Vladdy relished that. When you think of Nik Kronwall, you don't really think of a pest but rather a guy who will probably thread the needle with a pass.

In all fairness, it did work for a little bit.

Is that one of Colbert, Conan and Stewart dancing on YouTube somewhere?

Ok I've watched it over and over again and I'm not sure what he's talking about in regards to the power play goal "that winger went in on the move." http://redwings.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?hl...mp;event=DET563

WCQF GAME 1 GDT: Blue Jackets 1 at Red Wings 4
titanium2 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Yeah, last year. This year we've only seen it sporadically. Hossa has spent more time with Pav on the PP than Z this year. -
He was great tonight. Good for him. It's a great start and I hope he keeps it up and sustains it.

Blue Jackets doing their homework for Wings -- literally BY AARON PORTZLINE THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH During the most intense week in Blue Jackets history, coach Ken Hitchcock gave his players a homework assignment Monday. Captain Rick Nash was asked to study Detroit Red Wings winger Dan Cleary, Jason Williams to read up on Kris Draper, Jason Chimera was assigned Jiri Hudler, and Michael Peca drew Valtteri Filppula. “I haven’t done a book report in a while,†Chimera joked. “Maybe since high school.†But that, essentially, was the homework given by Prof. Hitchcock. Every player was asked to use the Internet, get advice from friends who play in the NHL, or try any means necessary to learn specific details about Red Wings players. The Blue Jackets shared their reports in a lengthy team meeting yesterday. Hitchcock refused to discuss it after practice, but it’s believed the idea was to further personalize the one-on-one matchups that will play out when the Blue Jackets play the Red Wings in a best-of-seven first-round series in the Stanley Cup playoffs beginning Thursday at Detroit. “I’ve never done it before, and I’ve never heard of it being done,†Nash said. “But it was interesting. It helps us to know our opponents just that much better.†As in any classroom, there were side deals, shortcuts and shenanigans. Defenseman Mike Commodore did his report on Nicklas Lidstrom. He also did his defense partner Jan Hejda’s report on Brian Rafalski. “Jan’s got a family and dogs and all kinds of stuff going on,†Commodore said. “So I helped him out a bit. “It wasn’t hard to find information on those guys. … I did some things on what I’ve noticed playing against them through the years, and I wrote down some stats, too. I could have been writing all day on Lidstrom. Rafalski’s not too shabby, either.†Hitchcock went line by line and pair by pair, having his players study opponents they’re likely to see frequently on the ice. Fourth-liner Derek Dorsett, for instance, studied Detroit fourth-liner Tomas Kopecky. Goaltender Steve Mason investigated Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood. “All they had to do was ask me,†said Williams, who spent parts of six seasons with the Red Wings from 2000 to 2007. “I know most of those guys pretty well.†Players and coaches were mum about what was said in the meeting, though Chimera offered, “It’s hard to pick out bad things about the Detroit Red Wings.â€

The intensity of that game is really scaring me for tomorrow night. I hope to God that the Wings can play with intensity. Oh and the Caps losing is also a little unnerving because of the whole 7th seed losing to the 2nd seed thing. Yes I am an egocentric Wings fan.

Is it me or do the Penguins look really good? Especially their PK.

I can think of a handful of games off the top of my head where I think they showed 'repeat' intensity. Mid November against the Oilers they got their first shutout of the season 4-0. Early December against the Ducks they won 2-1. The score doesn't show it but they dominated defensively. Home and Home series against the Hawks. Won 4-0 at the Joe and then 6-4 at the Winter Classic. Both games against the Sharks at the Joe. It's been inconsistent, but it's definitely there.

Maybe, "Do not be distracted by his sense of humor." For instance, when asked if he had a name for his signature fake to the forehand toe drag one on one move Datsyuk said, "Name? ... Goal." -
Dan Cleary Game 1 Status? (mod edit: Cleary to play)

I stole this from another forum, but I fully agree. Even Strength Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Franzen-Filppula-Hossa Cleary-Draper-Samuelsson Hudler-Helm-Kopecky Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Lebda-Ericsson 4-on-4 *With the defensive pairings the same as full even strength Zetterberg-Franzen Datsyuk-Hossa Filppula-Cleary Penalty Kill *Use Draper to take the first defensive zone faceoff and penalty kill until the first successful clearing of the zone Zetterberg-Cleary Filppula-Franzen Datsyuk-Hossa Helm-Kopecky Lidstrom-Stuart Kronwall-Ericsson (*or you could switch Stuart and Ericsson to maintain the familiarity between Kronwall and Stuart) Power Play Hossa-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Hudler-Zetterberg-Franzen Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Samuelsson

"I think it's time for him to move on," said Red Wings director of scouting Joe McDonnell, who oversees the Ontario region. "Of course, it's how he (performs) at camp and things like how he's adjusting to the pro life, but we definitely have a plan for him to be in the American League next year." http://www.redwingscentral.com/stories/200...3_RWCReport.php With the signing of Pearce, you'd think that one of the four (Howard, Larsson, McCollum and Pearce) will be moved. If so, then my hunch is that Jimmy Howard is tired of waiting and jumping through the Red Wings hoops and the brass is tired of not seeing any consistency from him. Also, Daniel Larsson adapted well to the NA style and rinks; before this year he had two successful years in the Swedish Men's League, who some like to argue that in many ways is more advanced than the AHL; won goaltender of the year in the SEL; and overall is quite ready to take the next step on most other teams. Some like to argue that he was ready before he came over here to be a backup. He just needed some time to adjust to the difference in nuances and details of the North American game, perhaps most notably the smaller rink size and the faster pace. Maybe they think that with everything considered, he's ready to backup Ozzie. He'll get his shot to compete for the job this summer and I guess we'll just see what happens. I think that Howard will be traded after this year's upcoming camp.
