Wow. I understand that anything can happen in the NHL. A three goal lead can dissipate in the blink of an eye, especially the way the Wings have been playing. But do you really think he was embellishing a Crosby for a regular season game if they were just going to get blown out; as in, if they were just going to in all likelihood lose anyways?
-
With everyone healthy, it's scary to think how good this team can be if they can really put it all together and become a well-oiled machine.
-
That's too bad about JP Dumont. I hope he's alright, I really do.
-
That was a nice gesture by Hossa. It made me believe even more how badly he wants to be a Red Wing. But I hope he never does that again. He got a game misconduct for that. They need him out there on the ice.
-
I agree that he needs to get his knee back. It's just that every time I notice him he's falling down. How good was his skating and balance before the injury?

So if Pav is Spiderman and Nick is Superman Who are the rest of the Red Wings superheroes? Batman - Z Thor - Homer Flash - Hoss Superboy - Nick Jr. Captain America - Cheli Wolverine - Mule Iron Man - Stuart Hulk - Cleary Mr. Fantastic - Huds Iceman - Fil Aquaman - Rafi Beast - Lils Ghost Rider - Lebs Human Torch - Helmer Cyclops - Leino Thing - Sammy Gambit - Maltby Robin - Drapes Jimmy Olsen - Kopy I have to admit, I had to read a few super hero descriptions. Oh the things I do to waste 10 minutes I could've spent studying for an exam. Worth it. What crazy line combinations though. Up front you got Spiderman-Batman-Thor with Superman-Aquaman on the back end.

I like the guy's energy as much as anybody but I don't know about "Downey would be in the NHL with ANY other NHL team's system." Last season, he cleared waivers twice. After the 2008 playoffs, he tried to get a contract with any other team and had to settle for a two-way deal with the Wings. Downey's mold of a one-dimensional enforcer with below average puck skills and hockey sense is like a dinosaur to the Wings.

Maltby feels as if he doesn't get enough ice time? Or Sammy wants more time in the top-6?

Who do you think is the most underrated player in the NHL? I am a very shy person, so I cannot name him. But you can hear that player in your receiver right now talking to you.

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...no_proving.html Contract talks continue Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said he has had contract talks with the agents for Johan Franzen and Hossa in the past week, but no deal is imminent. He has had more discussions with Franzen's agent and said there is a possibility of a deal. But he wants to continue talks with Hossa. He can sign only one before the end of the season. "If I have any chance to sign two, I got to get their cap number as low as possible," Holland said. "There's a lot at stake for the players and the club. I'm trying to figure out ways to keep as many players as possible. "If I get close with one, I'm going to sit tight and see where I get with the other." Poster's comment: Kind of a buzzkill in comparison to a couple weeks ago when Hossa said he'd take less. It's still a long and uncertain process it seems.

Enough Crosby talk. I'm going to try and turn this thread into something else. How about that Evgeni Malkin? "He's definitely one of the best five forwards in the league, no question," Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson said, adding that Malkin stands out because of his physicality. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...s/s_611796.html "He's so strong on his skates. He can beat you one-on-one. He's not just a goal-scorer. He's a shooter and a passer, and he's really good at drawing attention and finding the open guy." People want to compare him to Mario but I honestly think he's a really young Sergei Fedorov.

Whoever said that he looks like a pug is somewhat right.

Against Anaheim Against Dallas - Did Pav say 'Bulls***'? Against Pittsburgh Dallas again Did O'Halloran officiate this one? http://www.detroithockey.net/multimedia/20..._is_negated.php What a resume, I guess.

Well I think it helps that Fil is, as Babs says, "maybe the best skater at center on the team." In terms of the give and go play, Fil might be the best fit for Hossa amongst the centers on the team. I think it might look like Fil isn't doing much because he's in good position for a drop pass or what have you due to his skating ability, which allows him to keep up with Hossa. It also probably helps that Fil's willing to give up the puck a little earlier in the rush in comparison to Pav. Now, Draper? Doubt it. I'm not sure if he has the vision to initiate the kind of pass back to the blue line that led to Hossa's second goal against COL. Franzen? It seems to me that he's just not all that confident in his passing ability. He's more like Zetterberg in which he'd rather take it to the net and then dish. Helm? Maybe. I honestly haven't seen enough of his play, even going back to last year.

-I can't remember the last time I've seen the puck bounce around so unfavorably for the Wings. -I think we're starting to see why Lilja should not get top-4 minutes for too long. Unfortunately Stuart's nowhere near his return. -I thought Cleary's first goal was no good. I wonder if Toronto was trying to give a make up call because O'Halloran was officiating. -Like it or not, Ozzie will be the playoff goalie. For the time being, it's best to see if he can play through his mistakes and gradually work his way into a groove. Now, he's played 3 in a row and gone 1-1-1, so Conklin should start the next game, but Ozzie should probably play the one after that. -Keep them together 5 on 5, but I wonder if Pav and Z should center their own Power Play lines. -I like Fil with Hoss. Skater with Skater.

These are funny on a contextual basis: Miro Satan, Jim Carey, Ville Leino, John Madden (the team that scores the most points is gonna win the game), It's funny to hear announcers try to pronounce Filppula. Actually, scratch announcers, it's funny to her Babs pronounce that name. Phili-poolah. Oh, and... Harry Dick ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Dick_(ice_hockey) ) - Are you serious?
-
For those who have FSN Detroit, what did Babs say after the game?
-
Waaaaaaaoooooow. Detroit's getting bailed out a little bit here. I hope we all know that.
-
O'Halloran will probably call a horrible penalty on Cleary or Leino. Except when he goes to call it he says, "Detroit Penalty, #96.... I mean... Wait, what's Jay Leno's number?"
-
Noted. Thanks. You know I can't believe I forget about that one but I guess for the most part that comes with the Stanley Cup.
-
I don't know if the Wings will ever have as successful of a year as 2007-2008. -President's Trophy. -Western Conference Champions. -Nick's Norris Trophy. -Osgood and Hasek's Jennings Trophy. -Pav and Z Selke Trophy Nominees. -Pav's Selke Trophy. -Pav's Lady Byng Trophy. -Z's TSN Player of the Year award. -Z's Conn Smythe Award -The most important one, Stanley Cup Champions. Am I missing anything?

There's just such a dissonance between the way he conducts himself on the ice and the way he presents himself to media. When he's with the media, he's cool, collected, and appears mature. When he's on the ice, somehow we notice it when he's talking to the officials too much. He's got that kind of ugly whiny face that really doesn't help him. It's as if any time he experiences any emotion on the ice he looks whiny. Sometimes I just wonder why Sid can only mesh with linemates such as Marian Hossa and Evgeni Malkin. Is it because others are not competent enough to play on Sid's line? Or is it because of things like him noticeably yelling at Brooks Orpik because he shot the puck on net? When that ESPN poll of biggest whiner came out and Sid won by a clear majority, I thought at that moment that it is becoming really difficult for Pens fans to defend him.

O'Hallo's back for tonight's game against COL: http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/02/br...e_avs.html#more Watch out Cleary and Leino.

Filppula has the most Even Strength points after Z, D, Hossa
titanium2 replied to Z and D for the C's topic in General
To be fair, when he was in Pittsburgh, he said he would take less to be on a good team. He never specified which team, but Pens fans understood that to mean, "He's going to resign, yay!" Lately he's been a little more specific. "Everybody knows if you want to stay here (Detroit), you have to take less, so yes (I'll take less)."
