Bert: (One of) the most hated athletes.

I have a hard time thinking of another person besides Matt Cooke that should be the most hated player in the NHL today.

Osgood will start on Saturday... JMac sent down to GR

Yeah I prefer Ozzie get an easier game to build his confidence back. I mean, the Kings? That's a really good team there. If they have to lose I'd rather have Jimmy play the back to back than have Osgood lose in his first game and have a setback mentally and emotionally.

I don't exactly get what's going in this article. http://www.freep.com/article/20101201/SPORTS05/101201034/1053/Z-has-fun-with-writers-campaign Z still has not played an all-star game. Weird.

Some savvy veterans on the back end would help a lot. I was thinking Gonchar can't be all that happy in Ottawa but his cap hit is 5.5 and has a no trade clause. I don't have any particular reason why his name came up other than a recent article I read a couple minutes ago about the Senators.

Top 20 Plays with Datsyuk & Zetterberg

Thanks a lot for doing that! I didn't have the time today. Plus I feel goofy for bumping this thread all the time but that doesn't last long. Oh and that goal was like deja vu from 07-08, undoubtedly everybody's favorite year for comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjAhwx7Zt2o

    If Modano's career is over...

That would be quite awesome if his contract was much less than a 4.25 mil cap hit. Unfortunately... Well, you know.

They just had to win tonight's game imo. I think the Wings have never won their first game in Anaheim since the end of the lockout. I don't know why but they just always seem to lose that first game in Anaheim. So, I'm really thankful they were able to win this one against SJ.

I'm more intrigued about how well the Pens are playing right now. The have the #1 PK in the league despite a crappy start by Fleury. They're also top 5 in shots and goals against. Their defense is a little better right now than DET. Maybe the Wings should steal whatever it is they're doing right.

Haha! Well, just like Sprite used to say, "Image is Everything." I'm sure Toews has quite the extensive fan base in Canada. They look upon him as the next Yzerman as in the complete two-way player who is good looking; has somewhat of a charm with the media and has enough composure on the ice that he doesn't look like a jackass during confrontational moments. Plus, a good playoff performance will always remain in people's minds and he was the Conn Smythe winner. It's kind of like how Team Sweden last year called Zetterberg the best Swedish player around Olympic time. Mostly everybody around here on LGW.com thought, "What? They're kidding, right?" Because based on how he played the regular season a lot of us thought he was pretty far away from that kind of distinction. At least he had the humility to say, "They obviously haven't seen me play this year".

    ESPN: J-Ho no sophmore slump

He's definitely had a good start to the year. A slump can kick in anytime though. The good thing right now is that Jimmy and those around him seem to be safeguarding against that as much as possible.

11/28 GDT: Blue Jackets 2 at Red Wings 4

Speaking of Filppula... Has anyone else noticed how he has scored his goals in pairs against the same team? 2 against CHI - same game 10/9 2 against EDM - separate games 11/5 & 11/11 (make a wish) 2 against CBJ - separate games 11/26 & 11/28 So... Does that mean it's only fair we should expect him to score again in about another month, more or less? Perhaps against the Blues, who the Wings play on 12/15 and 12/23?

Or so I thought until they played Atlanta.

    Bert's role with the team

Well I'd say Bert is the one who turned himself into a more defensively conscious player. He's at that stage where he just wants to win instead of trying to produce 100+ points seasons. Babcock definitely taught him here and there but unless you summon the effort yourself, you won't be a good defensive player.

The effort on the BJs part was okay. It should've been a lot better considering the situation but sometimes teams freeze up during those moments. It's happened to the Wings as we all unfortunately know. EDIT: On the Wings part, though, they definitely did their part too. They got in the way of shots and made smart plays to get the puck out.
