Both him and Datsyuk got nominations that year. I feel like that won't ever happen again. The media might argue along the lines of, "Well, their numbers are that good because they help each other but individually they're not as good." Or something dumb like that.

You think Modano is taking to time to train like crazy and to see how his body feels over the course of a month? Theoretically he could use that as a way to gauge how he'll feel over the course of a year.

I guess they focused on Grier because he's the one that got the worst of all that but was Clowe supposed to be charging at Datsyuk like that with Grier right behind him? Seems to me like Clowe is the idiot in that one.

Yeah it's been posted before. I'm not sure if it had its own thread though but it's always fun to watch. Though I don't think skates are that loud. Seems like his skates may be mic'd for effect or something. I like how he stickhandled around the cameraman too.

As much as I hate to say it, if I were a betting man who simply needed a meal to eat then I would guess that Pav and Z would not get their numbers retired based on the Wings standards of today. We've seen a lot of former Wings go into the hall of fame and not have their number retired by the Wings. It's like a tier system or something. Tier 1 gets a banner at the top and tier 2 simply gets their number pulled from circulation out of respect or what have you (16, 91 so far, etc.).

For next season I'm not so sure I'll focus on his point totals but just about him putting on muscle and learning to play his game with that extra weight. If he can do that and match his point totals from last season then I'll consider that an incredible year for him.

If they want Abdelkader on the team it means Miller would be a healthy scratch. After last year in which he was a regular I really can't see the Wings making him play in and out of the lineup like a reserve forward. I'm sure he signed the contract with a tradeable cap hit so that he would play like a regular either with the Wings or with someone else.

The eternal optimist in me thinks that maybe Modano is "training like crazy" or in some way is trying a small test on himself to see if he wants to go through it for 82+ games.

My hopes for him this year: -Plays with Datsyuk about 65% of the time. -A 50 goal season that he's wanted for a couple years now. -All-Star -Selke Award nomination. I'm not buying the claim that he's only a playoff performer yet. EDIT: Forgot one.

I'm glad that Babcock said Modano probably won't make his decision until August 1st at the earliest. Hopefully that will at least temper the, "Did he sign? Did he sign? Why won't he sign? What an *******!" comments a little bit.
