Just out of curiosity I tried to picture a roster without Miller's and Meech's contracts and apparently the Wings would have $4.408 mil in cap space. Somehow that has to cover Helm, Abdelkader, Modano, a #7 defenseman and perhaps an enforcer. Based on the contracts Eaves and Miller got; the price of 1.25 for Modano; the going rate of #7 defensemen and enforcers, that all seems doable right? And again, that's without the contracts of Meech and Miller that would mean they have $4.408 mil in cap space. Not that's easy to trade away contracts or anything like that. It just seems like things are working out okay in regards to Kenny's plan. Maybe he'll sign all those players and be over the cap for a little bit but then he'll find a way to fix that before the season starts. And while the cases of Quincey and Leino aren't the same as Miller and Meech, Kenny has to feel as if their cases can help him sell them to other teams. I just think it's turning out to be not exactly a great off-season but good enough for what the Red Wings need.

How did these two end up working together anyways? Did Pavel just up and one day decide, "Hey, I want to hang out with Boogaard" and so they did?
-
Will Mair or Mayers be available the time right before training camp? Seems like that is the time in which Kenny might sign an enforcer.

What kind of stories have you heard about Modano being a ****** and egotistical?

I thought about starting a thread where we copy and paste our favorite quotes about Red Wings players and it was inspired by reviews of Zetterberg during the 2009 playoffs. Mike Babcock: "I believe he has a will tank deeper than anybody I've ever been associated with. As much as all the other attributes he has, to me, that's his greatest one. His drive train is fantastic." Nick Lidstrom: "He comes back at you shift after shift. He's not going to back down or let you take over. That's one of the things that makes him so hard to play against, because he'll play like that defensively. But when he has the puck, he's going to hang onto it and make plays. He's one of those guys that's going to show up every night. He's one of the best all-around players in the league, the way he can play at both ends of the ice. He's hard to play against. He's not going to give up. He's going to be close to you all the time." Darren Helm: "You see when he's dead tired, he's still working to get back defensively. I just look at that and try to take a piece of it, how hard he works. I definitely respect what he does, putting up points and shutting down top lines as well."

Babs: "I've been wrong. Some people think I have the market cornered on being wrong." Haha, well at least he's honest.
-
Kind of. After Babs described the way Ericsson played with Kronwall, as in, he showed a certain confidence and comfort when he had a partner who can play a skilled game, it made me think Kindl and Ericsson wouldn't be all that horrible. I mean, if can get along well in general and communicate effectively on the ice then it's at least worth a shot.

I feel like the phrase, "Holland is just retaining assets-Meech will be traded" should be in the subtitle of this thread. Come on peoples.

Also, shock value within sports talk seems to be at an all-time high these days. How else does Skip Bayless or Sports Talk Radio hosts have jobs?
-
I was just thinking about a topic related to this. Like who's the new favorite or who's going to be the new cup winner? Well, if you wanted to base your prediction on the two past cup winners then basically look for those organizations that tanked it for years, drafted well and now are an up and coming team.

I didn't mean to derail the thread with that division rivals comment or anything. I was just wondering if DET and CHI would make any kind of trade these days or if it's something like Calgary and Edmonton (?) where they don't have any kind of transaction together for decades
-
Is it even plausible these days for DET and CHI, two division rivals, to trade with each other?
-
Actually, what about trading Hudler for Sharp? CHI is more likely to bite on that one.
-
Maybe CHI will have to buy out Sharp and then Sharp can sign a cheap one year deal.
-
Of course we'd do that trade. No way in hell Chicago does that though.
-
I kind of feel that way too except for the fact that I've always challenged people who said this because no one really knows what McCrimmon actually does or what his responsibilities are for the Wings. I don't really care much for McCrimmon but while his official title is defensive coach it seems to me that Babcock is the one who designs the defensive schemes and overall team strategy. McCrimmon is there simply to run the drills and execute Babcock's checklist. I've always asked people about that and yet nobody really knows.

Define a lot. Datsyuk is nearly 50 percent.

There are plenty on here who would absolutely love it if a guy like Fischer coached the dmen and told every single one of them to knock the hell out of everybody that crosses the blue line.
-
Is it wrong that this is the first thing I think of when I think of Sydor?
-
How is Maltby a back up plan for, well, anything?
-
Oh the schticks have the dancing shoes on this forum tonight.
-
He was a RFA anyways though right? The Wings would've had to trade somebody anyhow so that they wouldn't lose picks.

Same discussion this board had at the time he resigned. Would it have been friggin sweet if he took less? Of course. Are we thankful he's back? Absolutely. The end. Just trying to save others the hassle.
