How can Lidstrom leave the game as one of the greatest at his position when people can't even spell his name right?
-
I thought Holland really said that at one point. I didn't catch your facetiousness in that post. My baddd.
-
Well it's obvious we won't miss him at all. I can't believe he get such a salary. And especially from Brian Burke of all people. Is Burke serious? Whatever happened to getting a bunch of 6-3 punishing North American specimens?
-
There's still Bertuzzi. And to some extent, Homer. Filppula. Hudler. The usual. What's that from?
-
...Is this for real?
-
What about Quincey? He was close to getting a 5th or 6th round pick until Quincey didn't pass the physical or something like that right?
-
No sarcasm detector? I was just continuing the same criticisms we've heard for years that Finnish Wing started. Fail on my part. Probably should've said "Too small" instead.
-
Haha! Yes!!! That and this one I use a lot to describe Eaves' excitement:
-
That really sucks for goaltenders trying to bring in that cash and teams that have expensive goaltenders. Hopefully for his sake Mr. "I let in 4 goals this year in comparison to 7 the year before so that's an improvement" changes that culture.
-
There's an echo in this forum. But definitely a plus one for you because of the awesome pic.
-
I'm sure Kenny will call all the teams in the league and ask them "If I waive Ritola, will you guys claim him?" On one hand Ritola getting waived might be a sign that the Wings will at least keep him in the system. If he gets traded then hopefully he's part of a deal that brings in that 5-6 defenseman.

I'm not exactly sure if this is the right number on CapGeek but I wouldn't be surprised if it were as far as Abby's total earnings go: $519,689 If that's the right number then he'll at least have a contract of $545,673.45.
-
Based on which number though? If it's total earnings you have to consider that Abdelkader played something like 33 games in GR. He didn't really earn the full 875K or whatever it was and he got a hell of a lot less money relative to what he would earn if he were in DET. I'm thinking the 5% raise might just be based on his total earnings from last year.
-
Yes he was. July 6, 2009 Re-signed as a restricted free agent by the Detroit Red Wings to a two-year contract. http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/55730/Ville_Leino
-
Haha. Dude come on. You know better how to read off dobberhockey than that.
-
I don't think Miller is guaranteed to be in a Wings jersey, correct? The reason why I think that is because didn't Kenny sign Quincey to a contract after the cup year and then had to waive him?
-
But Leino had a 850k cap hit as well and then the Wings signed him for 800K.
-
What makes it hard for me to think about the bottom six is that I want most if not all of them to play. Helm of course. Eaves of course. Miller was superb on the PK. Abdelkader can provide an physical and aggressive style that the team desperately needs. Ritola can provide some good puck possession skills. If Modano signs, then he's going to play no matter what. Cleary is eager to show how good he can be. Hudler also can provide great skill. You'd also like to see Draper revert back to his 07-08 form. Tough decisions.
-
I don't know. Abby has less experience and production than Miller and Eaves. I know we think he'll be in that ballpark because of his last contract but that was two-way. He didn't earn anything near that nearly 900K contract. Maybe they can come at a little cheaper than those numbers.
-
It's his million dollar smile that you like.
-
You had a ton of people object to the Bertuzzi signing simply because of the common perception of Todd Bertuzzi's game, which may consist of frustrating turnovers and inconsistent physical play. He's still labeled as a "lazy defensive player".
-
My reaction to this signing:
-
Abdelkader hasn't played 82 NHL games yet in a season. He'll likely struggle as he paces himself. It's understandable that they want a more reliable veteran in there.

I'm not sure how to go about this topic so let me first try to define what an "Yzerman" is. Our love for Yzerman truly has no boundaries. If other teams fans, or God forbid our own Wings fans even joke that Yzerman is overrated our instinct is to punch them in the face, no hesitation about it. That's how much we love him. But when I say an "Yzerman" I mean a guy who was the symbol of a force that rescued a franchise from the gutter. We'd all love a player that loves hockey so much that he can have a major impact on every game even while playing on one leg. That's not what I'm talking about for the most part. A big reason why we love Stevie so much is because he was the franchise player that rescued the Wings from being perennial losers. If the Wings keep a relatively high winning pace then we'll see different captains every 5-7 years right? You have Nick for a little more than half a decade (at least, hopefully) then Zetterberg or Datsyuk for nearly the same amount of years, then someone else, I don't know, right now Gustav Nyquist is starting to look more and more like Zetterberg every day. If the Wings keep that pace then they won't need an Yzerman to be captain for 20 years. I feel like I'd rather the Wings win at a pace that they do now and not have another Yzerman captain for 20 years because, I mean, there were a lot of growing pains in those 20 years for Wings fans. I mean, why not keep a boring, yet consist winning pace where they don't really need a superhero to rescue the franchise? I'm sure it's fun to watch guys like Ovechkin put a franchise on their shoulders and just will them into a playoff spot but I mean, I think I'd rather the Wings keep the pace that they got right now even it means we have different captains so often that they don't really inspire as much emotion as Yzerman does. It's not an easy thing to keep a winning pace the way the Wings do but I'd rather they not go back into a state where they need an Yzerman just to keep their heads above water. I'm not exactly sure if I even communicated the question well enough. Hopefully I did.
