Signed Abdeklader signs 4 year extension, $1.8m cap hit
Uncle Danny replied to Aki's topic in General
I agree. He may not be a future star, but he brings a number of elements to the team that we would otherwise be lacking. His defensive play is very good, he adds a measure of sandpaper, will throw when he has to (granted, not often or particularly well), and perhaps most importantly brings youthful enthusiasm and energy. I think anything more would've been an overpayment, but I'm happy with these terms and glad to see him remain on our roster. -
Signed Wings sign Carlo Colaiacovo to 2 year deal, $2.5m cap hit
Uncle Danny replied to datterberg1340's topic in General
I love this signing if only because it means I'll get to say his name a lot more often this season. Go on, say it with me now: Carlo Colaiacovo, Carlo Colaiacovo, Carlo Colaiacovo. Fun, isn't it? -
For absolutely no good reason at all, I disliked Tomas Sandstrom and Mike Knuble both during their time here. Tim Taylor too, now that I think about it. It had nothing to do with their play or anything they said or didn't say off the ice. I just didn't like them in the red and white. For what it's worth, I know it's completely silly of me. I even had occasion to meet both Taylor and Knuble in later years, and they were very nice, approachable, likable guys. Just one of those things, I guess.

Disappointing, but not all that surprising. I'm sure the Foundation checks the affiliations of each and every organization that makes donations in order to protect their reputation in the media and elsewhere. Imagine the press they'd get if they blindly cashed a check from the KKK, for example. Now, I'm not saying we're the KKK (at least I hope we're not!), but if they have many, many such donations to check on, I'm not terribly shocked that a $175 donation either slipped through the cracks or wasn't given priority. Bummer, all around. I'd say give it to the hospital again, but my vote counts for nothing since the Wings didn't hit any of my marks this time

True that. Steve Schutt on Bowman: "You hated him for 364 days of the year, and on the 365th day you received your Stanley Cup ring." Babcock isn't the issue.

You must be joking. Shanny should've definitely made this list... but of all of them, I'd say only Sakic is a no-brainer not to replace. As others have stated, Sundin is the question mark here. Bure had more talent, but a career ended short. Oates was amazing, but never won a cup. Sakic captained a team that won cups, contended for scoring trophies until very late in his career, defined the word class on the ice and off. I'm truly shocked at your naming him here. I'm a Red Wings fan through and through, but if Joe Sakic isn't a first ballotter, I don't know who is.

Jordan Staal traded to Carolina, signs 10-yr, $60m extension
Uncle Danny replied to Salviaman's topic in General
I had the exact same thought when I saw the terms he turned down. Shero would have to be off his rocker (which I don't believe he is) to offer, in earnest, that much for a 3rd line center. I'm not knocking Staal's skills, or saying that he's no better than 3rd line material in the general sense. I think we all know he's more talented than that...but he'd be playing behind two of the very best centermen in the league for years to come had he stayed in Pitt. Good on Shero, if we're right. As much as I hate the Pens, I have to respect that sort of foresight. -
Jiminy. Look at this kid's jaw and PIMs. I'd imagine he can take a punch.
-
Agreed. I hope no idiots boo him when he comes to town in his new sweater.
-
It is, but they lost his luggage on the last train to Clarksville.
-
To be fair, this was Primeau, Coffey and a 1st for Shanny and some scrub. Still worked out pretty well, though, and I agree with your overall point.

Does anyone else stop reading the moment they see "CAPGEEK" in a post?

Saw this on FB:

No way, man! That makes it all the cooler down the road. I still have my Fedorov jersey with the A on it, and love it as a bit of a rarity. Shows I was around "back then." Wear that sucker with pride even after Z takes the C
-
What is this "we" you speak of? Fedorov's always been aces in my book, despite his less than auspicious departure. That man brought 13 years of magic to Detroit.

nashville predators keep the red out campaign
Uncle Danny replied to PredsFanTheBayouState's topic in General
That's pretty fantastic, no pun intended. Of course I'd question anyone who took advantage of this promotion, but I still think it's a great idea. Despite the fact that I hope we freaking destroy you in the playoffs, I have to give a continued hat off to the Preds organization. You guys do more with less than anyone else in the NHL. Unless you're playing the red and white, I'm rooting for you. -
That's fantastic! I love it!

I'm in! EDIT: Numbers PM'ed to vladdy
-
And the fact that you're wishing a potentially career ending and life changing injury on another human being doesn't even enter the equation?
-
I'm trying to figure out how you can say "I don't know how Orpik doesn't get more suspension time." and "I hope Philly rams Crosby and knocks him out of the playoffs." in the same post.
-
There are a great many insults that can be slung in Milbury's direction, but I don't think a lack of chutzpah is among them. If you doubt me, I dare you to call him spineless to his face.
-
Yeah. I doubt the NHL was involved at the league level at all. More likely it was NBC telling him to tone it back. Keep in mind that, even if the NHL doesn't say anything, the Pens can tell NBC that they're going to restrict access to certain stars if that's the type of coverage they're going to get. I'm not insinuating that this was Crosby getting any different treatment than any other star player, mind you. But if a team tells their broadcasting partner that they'll no longer have the level of lockerroom or personal interest story access they're accustomed to because of disparaging remarks made by one of their analysts, the network is more than likely to apply a muzzle and an apology. Kudos to Milbury for speaking his mind (I happen to agree with him), and I don't think any less of him for backing down some when it's almost a certainty that his check signers told him "that was a no no."
-
Yeah, what's to stop Chris Chelios Patrick Eaves from scoring 20 goals? I kid, I kid. I actually agree with you here. This has been a troubling string of injuries in more than one way. Broken jaws aren't easy to come back from, and concussions are even tougher. I hope we get another chance to see him play at 100% in the winged wheel again next year, but I hold out zero hope that we'll see he again this season... and even if we did, he'd be a shadow of his full tilt self -- hardly the kind of situation you want in the playoffs.

Oh wow. I can't believe I'm the first to mention Pronger here.
