I am with you on that--yes the Ducks are still fighting to win their division and such, but in all actuality these eight games are pretty meaningless. They should have suspended him for maybe a single playoff game also, just to make the suspension a bit more harsher. But, I guess I'm satisfied that Pronger got any sort of punishment, knowing that 2 days ago he wasn't going to even get a slap on the wrist.
-
That was a really interesting interview with Simon. Seems like he is thinking the same stuff all of us. That said, it would be semi-interesting to hear Pronger's take on this...however, he might defend himself stating that it is a "law of physics" that his foot came down on Kesler--much like it was a law of physics that he elbowed Holmer in the head last year.
-
In a just world you'd be right on with that punishment, especially considering the lengthy Simon suspension. However, in the NHL disciplinary world of double standards, I'll be surprised if he gets anything more than three games.
-
Damn, those clearer images prove what everyone in here is saying--it was clearly deliberate. Damn Pronger. Kesler isn't holding Pronger down, or stopping him from moving--Pronger looks down and knowingly drives his skate into Kesler's calf. Just a dangerous, stupid, reckless move on pronger's part.
-
He is receiving ZERO discipline from the league.

I guess my problem with this incident is that the league appears to be giving Pronger the benefit of the doubt. I can understand being like, lets say it was Nick Lidstrom, the NHL office saying ohh well it was an accident--but Pronger's history does not support the idea that this was just an accident. Pronger has been suspended at least seven times in his career, all for short periods of time. So clearly he is not getting the memo. This was the league's opporunity to really discipline a career offender and prevent any future recklass plays, and nothing came from it. I hate this double standard in the league (how can one guy get suspended for 30 games and another guy get none, for the same action?). Like everyone else in here, I am really disappointed by the league's decision.

I remember hearing that story of Tootoo's brother on cbc and it was the most tragic thing I've heard. Nobody, no matter how much of a ****** bag he is on the ice, deserves to be the last person to see their brother alive right before he kills himself. I hate Jordin Tootoo just as much as the next person, but lets think before we post things--if you need a reminder of what Tootoo had to go through, take a look at THIS

This is seriously why I love this team and think we'll go far in the playoffs...each and every player is so selfless. Hank hasn't scored in 14 or 15 games, he has a shot at the empty netter at the end, yet he passes it off to Flip, who deserved that goal based on the his play today. I'm not too worried about Hank's goal drought though, he's playing well--anyways, Franzen's taking on Z's scoring load during that stretch. It'll all work out. Nice game tonight boys!! BTW...anybody else think it is hilarious that Homer has the "How Swede It Is" poster in his locker?

This is so frustrating. The league has a HUGE double standard for their "star players" like Pronger as compared to the bottom-feeders, i.e. Tootoo and Simon. How can that Wisniewski get a one game suspension for a play that everyone, including Samuelsson, admits was accidental yet Pronger stomps on someone's calf and the league hands out nothing. Just ridiculous.

I am taking it that Lebda got Lilja sick? Anyways, excited to see Helm's debut. If Ozzie plays like he did against the Blackhawks, Wings should be able to take this one.
-
Weird foreshadowing or something, but at the Wings game on Tuesday Darren Helm was covered as the "getting to know the wings' future" during intermission. Impressive highlites of him, I look forward to his debut. Will he play in Hartigan's spot (I hope so) or is there another injury that I am not aware of?

I remember reading this when it first came out and I don't care how many times I hear his story, it will never get old. I was really shocked to see that Cleary had gotten a DUI because everything I had seem of him to that point was a responsible, hard-working player. But with that, it is amazing to see how much he has matured and I think that makes me like him even more. He's worked so hard to get where he is today (I love how he always gives props to his wife) and he definitely deserved that new contract. I look forward to seeing him in a Red Wings jersey for (at least) the next five years.

Heard the great news on my drive back from the game. I am so excited and so glad that a deal got done before he became a UFA. 5 MORE years of Danny Boy

Damn...usually I take 75 to games from the Rochester area, but now I am coming from Ann Arbor and good old mapquest suggested 96 to civic center. I'll leave a bit early considering the fact that I always manage to get lost anyways.

Wings WILL play in Winter Classic? Chris Chelios seems to think so...
-
I couldn't watch the game today, but I was watching NHL highlites and it was sooo nice to see Nick Lidstrom back. Also good to see Hudler finally score a goal...maybe he'll get on a roll now.

Perfectly said.

I posted this somewhere else, but for everyone that didn't see this video (and anyone who hates Corey Perry) take a look...
-
Everything to this point is speculation, but I remember a while ago reading an article in which the name of the arena would be the "New Olympia Stadium." Here is the proposal for this arena if anyone wants to take a look: New Olympia I think I'd be pretty cool.
-
Damn. My sister is a season ticket holder and I randomly selected this game to buy from her a while ago. A free poster and one dollar ice cream sandwiches!! I am way beyond excited.
-
For all of you that hate Corey Perry or just want a real good laugh, take a look...

I dont know if THIS has been posted yet, but I am having second thoughts about having Lidstrom return on Sunday against the Preds. If that team was taking runs/shooting pucks at players' heads, I don't want Lidstrom out there, especially if Tootoo is running rampid out there.
-
I love the Aaron Downy vs Boulrice fight. That was ridiculous. I was at this game, and this moment clearly sticks out. It makes me so excited for Cleary to come back/the playoffs.

Per MSNBC According to msnbc.com, the nhl is strongly considering another winter classic, this time at Wrigley Field. I like the idea, but I am also concerned that Bettman is thinking that since the outdoor game worked once, he'll put it on overkill and do it all the time--and that takes away from the excitement and uniqueness of it. What's everybody think? That said, if the outdoor thing is going to be consistently done, I think it'd be awesome to have a double header with Michigan/MSU, Wings/Somebody else at the Big House.
