Maybe the MLB should get rid of the Cubs since they haven't won anything since 1908. I know that the Islanders suck and there are two other teams in that market but come on, and maybe this is just the hockey purist in me as much as I dislike that term, it just seems wrong to get rid of a team like the Islanders. I agree with you though on the others you mentioned.
-
lol @ getting rid of the Islanders, you're going to dump a team that won 4 consecutive stanley cups, was a dynasty at one point, and had HOF players like Trottier, Bossy, Potvin, et al?
-
No, this is just for fun. We would be able to select present players but also players who no longer play like Yzerman, Eric Lindros, Kevin Stevens, etc. All the drafting and everything will be done right here in this thread.

Mods, you can move this to water cooler if you want but I thought it would get more attention in GD. Anyway, I was thinking of doing a LGW modern era draft with like 15-20 people on here, or even more, since it's the off season and I'm sure we are all bored Once we get enough people we can vote and discuss rules like time limit on picks, who is eligible, etc. Some suggestions I thought of so far: 1. We are drafting both for now and for the future. Assume that you will be GM of your franchise for the rest of your lifetime. 2. Decent writeup for each pick required. Around 200 words and somewhat informative/entertaining. Pictures and links to youtube highlights are encouraged.

Cool, 3 people so far. Need at least 12 more.

God I love Babcock haha.

Despite the losses on D the Ducks suffered, I still believe they are just as good as Chicago. Goal tending is by far the most important element in the playoffs and I'd rather have Hiller than Huet. I think the Ducks would present more match up problems for the Hawks than the Hawks would for the Ducks, and the playoffs are all about match ups. Chicago's style is not conducive in matching up well to the Ducks rough and tough play. I would also go as far to take Getzlaf/Perry over Kane/Toews. Getzlaf is more dominant and can take over a game more than Kane or Toews can. We all saw what Getzalf can do, we couldn't contain him but we were able to contain Kane and Toews. Perry, as much as I hate him, is solid as well and with Getzlaf on the same line, it's almost impossible to shut both of them down, Getzlaf's presence and ability alone make him and Perry better than Kane and Toews.

How is Calgary ranked ahead of Anaheim?! I also think San Jose at 10 is a little low, they should be higher.

Blue Moon: Honey Moon summer ale. A nice blend of honey and citrus make for a tasty brew that goes down smooth. I would strongly recommend this beer for everyone to try.

I think it is more of a positive then a negative. Yes in the short term we are going to lose players like Sammy or Huds beause we have guys like Malts, Draper, Homer, etc. signed and also in conjunction with the cap, but in the long run I think our loyalty helps more than it hurts. Players around the league take notice of how loyal we are and how well we treat our players and that is something that attracts them to come to Detroit aside from the chance to contend for Stanley's Cup every season. In this day and age of sports, loyalty isn't something you see very often and I beleive this is yet another trait that makes us the best organization not just in hockey, but in all of sports.

Who will man the right point on the second PP unit
Gutierrez replied to CenterIce's topic in General
I'm similar in that I use a knife in my left hand and the fork in my right, and that I'm right handed but shoot left hockey, bat left in baseball but throw right, etc. -
This would be a great trade for the Hawks. You get rid of Campbell's contract and get Kaberle who basically replaces him but is cheaper, you get a top notch goalie in Nabokov who is much beter than Huet, and then you get Marleau, who possibly with a change in scenary and not having the pressure of being a captain, can thrive in a different environment. The Sharks would get boned and the Leafs would make out decent but the clear winner would be Chicago.

I think for a few years while he was in Vancouver, Todd Bertuzzi fit the mold of power forward perfectly. Getzlaf reminds me a lot of him for those couple years except I think Getzlaf is a little more skilled and more dominant.

lol at Legace coming here. The most ridiculous one is Beauchemin, there is no way the Ducks let him walk especially with Niedavacation aging and Pronger possibly getting traded and also getting older. They also suggest a few of those players playing on the fourth line but there isn't any room unless we dump Draper or Maltby which I don't see us doing.
-
I get where you're coming from. At this point I would rather let go of Hudler and/or Sammy then Filpulla mainly because he is still young and why trade one of our younger players who still can develop? I think Huds and Sammy have hit the ceiling in terms of production and Filpulla right now is probably a better overall player than either one and can still get better.
-
Filpulla was one of our best players this entire playoff run and especially in the SCF when guys like Hossa, Sammy, Huds, and Franzen didn't show up. I don't know what you were watching. You have to remember Val is more of a set up/assist guy, not a scorer and he did a really nice job of making great passes and setting guys up. Not to mention he scored a couple goals in big games. Filpulla has been clutch the last two seasons in the playoffs, more so than a LOT of our other players.
-
Is it just me or did anyone else think Franzen was a big disappointment in this series? I know everyone is blaming Hossa and Stuart but the mule just did not show up and I think it really hurt us, maybe more so than anyone else not showing up. This is a guy who has scored more goals in the playoffs than anyone over the last two seasons and he scores one goal in this series. I still like the mule and I'm not hating on him by any stretch, I'm just pointing something out. I very seldom heard his named called or saw him driving to the net or involved in a lot of scoring chances. If anything I think his presence, or lack thereof this series, portrays just how vital he is to our success, at least offensively.
-
No worries then, and yes i love all three as well as everyone else on this team.
-
haha im not saying dump him or anyone else, in fact I've been one of the more supportive posters about this team and especially guys like Stu and Ozzy if you look at my old posts. I'm just trying to get a discussion or some analysis going. I just think people are looking for reasons as to why we lost, and there are a lot of them, I think Franzen's lack of production is one that a lot of people are not pointing out.
-
You're correct that the team lost, it is a team game. I just believe it's very evident how much it hurts us when Franzen isn't scoring.

I've been on here for a few hours just reading all the different reactions/threads, makes it easier to know other people are going through the same thing I am. I shaved my beard off. I'm eating some chocolate chip cookies my friend made and they are delicious. Tomorrow will be tough, the day after the loss is always the most difficult imo. After tomorrow I should be alright but the key is to keep busy or do something otherwise I'll just be pondering what if for the next few days.

Dano's goal against Anaheim and Helm's goal in OT against the Hawks.
-
Big ups to Matt, thanks for making this site as great as it is.

The Lakers did have the 3-peat and not to mention two other Finals appearances in which they lost to Detroit and Boston. That's pretty impressive, but I still think the wings have been the most dominant over the last decade. I don't think I have to explain why The pats won 3 times but with all the spygate stuff, winning each Super Bowl by 3 points in the final seconds which is not exactly dominating, and losing to the NY Giants; a huge upset=not the most dominating team of the last decade.
-
I can't fathom Helm not staying on this team for years to come. The wings brass loves him and knows how much energy he brings, at least in the playoffs. I just can't imagine us letting Helm walk or trading him.
