is there any respect amongst players these days?

what does dmac's fight have to do with anything, that was just a fight. ya know what forget it, i guess no one is seeing my side and i don't even care anymore. most of you simply like violence so whatever and i NEVER said by him saying "i'm gonna kill you" that he actually could kill him, it's the whole thing about keeping that off camera or not for the public to see. i don't think it's the words that i was bothered by it was the throat swipe on tv. and dallas and vangvace two you can stop assuming that i've never played hockey or watch sports, that's twice you've said something like that. don't play me like an idiot, i'm 27 years old, i've played hockey most of my life. so enough with that, it's invalid. and your comparing what YOU do (who isn't a pro and no one is watching) to the nhl. it's ridiculous. call someone's mom a fat *****, no one cares. do the throat swipe to someone, odds are no one else will see it. let's just drop the whole topic, it's apparent that some of you aren't getting my point, or just flat out don't mind the dispaly of violence (throat swiping, stepping on skates, bertuzzi, mcsorley stick to brashears head, steve downie, tootoo etc.) shown to young kids watching which i think sends a bad message. it's not that i care about the verbal stuff. i give up anyway, moving on to another topic

The Best 17 Forwards of the NHL

if your going by this year, shouldn't malkin be top 3 then, i mean he's carried the pens while crosby has been out . but it's your list it can be whatever i'm just saying
  3. in another topic about outdoor games, i suggested the next outdoor game should be the all-star game/weekend. i started ranting about the all-star weekend in general but thought it could use it's own thread. i was about to post: an outdoor all star game would be a publicity giant. players would actually have fun at an all star event. it would at least triple the ratings i think. the all star game just lacks any kind of fun. i mean take this for example...remember when players like ray bourque went 4 for 4 in the target accuracy event, he skated away on one knee pumping his fist like it was the stanley cup winner, it was exciting, fans loved it. just this past all star skills competition, kaberle goes 4 for 4 and he skates away like he didn't even know or that it was a big deal. i mean there are only a few players that have ever done that. players clearly don't wanna be there, the interviews suck and they don't even try during the game itself. it's like a regular game, dump and chase, i mean there isn't hitting, why not try a spinorama, why not try between the legs on a breakaway. the all star game is for the fans, not whether the east or west win, i could care less. i think players should be encourage to make flashy plays, goalies shouldn't poke check a breakaway like legace did cause that's the most boring thing ever. instead of possibly a great goal, we don't even see a shot and the announcer goes, "wow what a great play by legace". i though the addition of the breakaway challenge was good but players other than ovechkin didn't do ANYTHING fancy. it was so boring. at least ovechkin tried whether he score or not. the fastest skater event was a flat out joke. one sprint to the far blue line, are you kidding me??? where's the suspense in that. i remember the days of fedorov vs gartner racing a full lap, it made me stand up and mimic moving my head like i was skating with them. it was exciting. that even was horrible this year. i though rick dipietro and legace were the best part of the all star event cause they were being funny and talkative while actually playing. i thought that was great. other interviews were boring, no personality, all business. "oh it's fun being here, i'm glad to be playing with great players like so and so". BOOOORING. i could go on and on, what are some suggestions to make the all star weekend more exciting aside from me already saying it should be an outdoor event next season or elaborate on that. what don't you like and what did you like this past all star weekend?

wow, so apparently i'm the odd one out. i'm sorry, i should be happy that players are doing throat swipes, stepping on other players skates with a sharp blade, the bertuzzi incident etc and just say "that's hockey"! my fault. how stupid of me really. tea and crumpets sounds great smart ass.

i know your just making a joke, but i'd rather know a player is on steriods then to see so and so paralyzed on the ice because someone was angry and cross checked another player in the throat or something else.
  6. ya know what else really bothers me, is that we claim that such and such players are the fatest and have the hardest shot or are the most accurate when it's so untrue. if that were the case, some players who aren't all stars would be representing. do teams still hold their own skills competitions to see who is the best like they used too?? i don't think so to my knowledge. why do you think al iafrate was at the competition cause he was an all star? no cause he won his team's hardest shot competition at practice. just an example, if curtis glencross were the fatest skater (which he's not) i'd wanna see him there, is he an all star...no, but why claim the fatest skater is in attentance when he's really not. you see what trying to say. i know in football they have non pro bowlers doing the fastest man and bench press, stuff like that cause they really are the best at that competition in the league.

but that's you, now imagine your 9 year old son watching the game and seeing the throat swipe and reading roy's lips "your f*ing dead, i'm gonna kill you". are you then still not upset?? if they say it on the ice during a faceoff no one see it's, but he did it on the bench in sight of everyone and on tv. no excuse

is there any respect amongst players these days?

but dude your not thinking about what could have happened if roy got back on the ice. torterella was furious shoving roy back down on the bench. roy didn't get anymore ice time at that point so being that mad, if he had gotten back on the ice he could have done something really really bad. and even still i think your being insane, death threats should never been ok AND he did the throat swipe twice

is there any respect amongst players these days?

ok so i agree that hockey in general has more respect amongst players, i guess i was directing more towards the players i mentioned and what happened again last night. stuff like that. and i agree hockey has always been violent, but off the ice some of the things players do is technically a crime so why not get rid of that stuff for good and ban those types of players. the hitting and fighting...great!! not the stepping on skates, cross checking to the face and death threats. let's face it, there's a hell of alot of money in sports now and in your star players, which is a big difference between today and the 50's for instance.

The Best 17 Forwards of the NHL

cause i think giguere is waaaaay overrated but thanks for asking. huet is that good imo which is why he's where he is on my list. why was he traded?, who knows for sure. why was everyone perplexed why montreal would do that. could be cause price is their future and they also have halak (sp) which are both good goalies. maybe they were moving huet for cap space to make a move for hossa and failed. huet seemed like the odd one out if your riding price for the future. nough said. the capitals and fans are thrilled to have him.

The Best 17 Forwards of the NHL

    1. Crosby (best all around player) 2. Ovechkin (could be one of the best goal scorers of all time when all is said and done) 3. Malkin (deserves mvp nomination) 4. Spezza (can do it all, such a great passer) 5. Zetterberg (smart player, makes few mistakes, can do it all) 6. Lecavalier (can take over the game, monster shot) 7. Gaborik (fastest player, can't be stopped at times, if it weren't for injuries the guy would be an mvp player) 8. Datsyuk (best playmaker, amazing wrist shot) 9. Kovalchuck (pure goalscorer, can do everything on a bad team) 10. Thornton (can't knock off the puck, top 3 passer) 11. Brad Richards (one of the best all around players, top 3 passer) 12. Alfredsson (solid at both ends of ice, great leader, can do it all) 13. Iginla (not a strong skater but has incredible accuracy on his wrist shots, puts the dirty ones in too) 14. Heatley (best and one of only power forwards left) 15. Hossa (great playmaker and pure scorer) 16. Sundin (just cause he's older doesn't mean he can't be on the list. he's always consistent, put big numbers up and is a force every shift) 17. Nash (selfish player, but can go through the whole team at times, cleans up garbage shots) just missed the cut: Savard (mostly known for his passing skills, but because so, teams have to know when he's on the ice) Jokinen Kovalev (great playmaker, power play specialist) Jagr (have to mark him down every shift, still a great player) Shanahan (lost a step, but a pure sniper) Elias St. louis Afinogenov (yes i know he's had a bad year, he's had injuries throughout his career but when healthy he can dominate games with his speed and playmaking. one of the most creative players in my opinion which makes teams have to mark him when he's on the ice making him "dominating" which is the point of this thread) Goalies: 1. Henrik Lundqvist 2. Roberto Luongo 3. Miikka Kiprusoff 4. Martin Brodeur 5. Evgeni Nabokov 6. Ryan Miller 7. Pascal Leclaire (doing so well on a terrible team) 8. Cristobal Huet (so solid, controls rebounds probably better than anyone) 9. Niklas Backstrom 10. Vesa Toskala 11. Marty Turco 12. Dominic Hasek 13. Tomas Vokoun 14. Ilya Bryzgalov (biggest reason for coyotes success) 15. Chris Osgood 16. Kari Lehtonen (injuries, plus he's on a really bad team imo) 17. Tim Thomas (has his ups and downs)
  12. i agree with everything you said and you're right, it was nabokov who came out to poke check, not legace like i stated.

Which Team Has The Best Fans

you could say that about just about every team, most games are filled by company people who are they to socialize and eat and aren't neccesarily there for the game. i'm in philly and as a fan of other teams, i used to be scared even as a young kid going to the old spectrum to route against the flyers in another team's jersey. now i could be wearing a wings jersey and no one says a word, and the arena is pretty quiet. i would say in most cases, the biggest of fans aren't at the games, they prefer to stay at home, save their money and watch on tv every night. i would think that list is pretty accurate though but it doesn't really say what they are basing it on, knowledge or loudness etc. detroit better do something or it shouldn't be called hockeytown anymore. it should probably go to the wild fans in st. paul. we need to have more octopi thrown. does the joe even drop the big purple octopus from the ceiling anymore or just in the playoffs?

let's just come out and say it already.....we hate giguere!! can you say OVERRATED

    Outdoor Game at Wrigley Field?

yeah i actually agree with opie for once...once a year would be great and not overkill. in fact i think it's important for publicity reasons. why not have an outdoor all star game. that would actually make the all star game watchable and players would love being selected. don't even get me started on all star weekend these days cause it equals no fun. players just don't care anymore. wait here i go about it, enough. there was talk about the pens and flyers doing one at penn state. i think it's all just rumors fans want.

    Outdoor Game at Wrigley Field?

during the time of the winter classic, daly said it would be a special event, meaning probably not every year but maybe every other.

    Why Fedorov wasn't a Wing

no it's invalid cause that's literally the entire reason, they don't provide any reasons behind why he wouldn't be good back on the wings, just that he's old, he's washed up and doesn't put up pts, which none are true, and the pts would go up had he not be on the worst offensive minded team ever (bluejackets). and yes i'm biased for the 100th time. sergei can still play, bottom line. he wouldn't be the savoir for the wings to win a cup this year, but he would help for sure whether people will admit it or not. seacrest....out!

    Goalie Pads

i'm pretty sure i don't agree or like anything you just said...haha

    Goalie Pads

i wonder if anyone is creative and clever enough to photoshope moog's shape inside giguere's body to see how much net he took up comparitively. i don't know if that made sense, i think you might get what i'm saying. i guess i would just like to know the % of net the two would take up when they are in stand up mode cutting the angle down.

    Why Fedorov wasn't a Wing

good one bro!!! i'm looking forward to his response now! i'm surprised this hasn't been brought up before when people talk about feds singing with the hurricanes. sakic did the same thing with the rangers a while ago. he stayed, and yes his number should be retired with the av's

    Why Fedorov wasn't a Wing

well it's not like i was directing my earlier comments to you anyway, you weren't even in on the discussions yet. it's clear anything that comes up fedorov you go negative and i am positive. of course i'm biased to fedorov. you or anyone else will never hear me diss him. i know he's not the same player from 3/4 seasons ago even, but again that's obvious and "people" bring that up and it's an invalid argument. they just say "oh he sucks, he's washed up, he's all about himself". hardly ever good arguments. if someone wants to say "he's not physical, he's not what the red wings really need" fine, use examples. and even then i'd argue those points. he's been throwing his body around on the caps, he's playing hard to show leadership. does he wanna do that, probably not, he has to be smart about his hitting. it seems to me like a majority (not all) of the fedorov haters are purely bitter about him leaving and signing the offer sheet from carolina etc, never really giving good arguments for why they don't like him. some people do, fine, i hate alot of players, everyone has their own taste but at least back it up. if anyone hates fedorov fine, but it really bothers me the general lack of respect he gets for what he's done and acheived over his 13 years in detroit. i hate mario lemieux, i generally am not a fan of wayne gretzky's career, however i respect what they did and who they are. i don't just say "ah they suck, screw them" i don't even know what i'm trying to say anymore. i should probably concentrate on work right now. haha oh but your still my lgw.com rival!! we always seem to be against eachother. it's all good though, agree to disagree
  23. DenJ91

    Why Fedorov wasn't a Wing

dude i never said i was that upset about him not coming back to the wings. i follow him anywhere. i'm routing for the caps big time right now in the east. i never "waaaah'd" about it, check your facts and i haven't started any fedorov topics since 2 weeks before the deadline, again make sure you know what your talking about. you and i are clearly on different sides of just about everything invovling fedorov. i consider you my rival like the avalanche!! i'm merely defending him as i always will so get used to it. there were so many feds supporters pre-deadline, now all the haters are back out and the supporters have dissappeared. it's an unfair balance right now so i'm gonna do what i can to represent in the threads. what bothers me the most if when people say he sucks, it's absurd. alright i've said my peace

    Why Fedorov wasn't a Wing

everyone keeps saying how he's not the same player he once was, i feel like that deserves the "no s***" award. yzerman wasn't the same player he was his last couple years, gretzky and lemieux weren't the same, it's obvious. why is that even brought up. someone plays for 18-22 years, of course he's gonna progressively get alittle slower, injured alittle more. bottom line is fedorov can still play at a high level and the caps fans and myself are loving him on that team. he brings more to a team than stats. i'm sick of the fedorov bashing. waaaaaaaaaaaaah he left the red wings. get over it already. i did a long time ago. i follow him wherever he goes. red wings are still my squad though. ask bruins fans if they hate ray bourque for leaving....um, i doubt it. s*** even wayne gretzky played on 4 teams. players don't stick on the same team forever. be glad yzerman was a wing that long because he was about to be shipped off to ottawa i believe. can't we just be happy that we won the last game, rafalski is back tonight and lidstrom should return on sunday! that's good news all around.
  25. DenJ91

    Why Fedorov wasn't a Wing

did you watch the game or are you just pulling the stats? he had 15:00 cause they were up so quick they rolled 4 lines the whole game. he also had a slight injury that caused him to miss a shift. i'll agree him ending up with zero pts bothered me but he just doesn't seem to care, he was smiling more than i've seen him smile in a long time. alex semin only had 1 assist during the game, does that mean he stinks, don't even say he does. the fedorov/semin line was the only line who didn't produce a goal. i believe laich's 2 goals were on the power play. but in anycase fedorov has played so well the first 3 games and the caps have benefitted in a lot of ways including ovechkin and semin's team play experience already. the look so comfortable out there especially semin now. quite honestly i don't feel like going into to this anymore, there are clearly some fedorov haters out there who won't leave him along and bitter and whatever, and they won't change. worry about the wings, the caps are doing just fine now.
