Howard never shows up when it counts most. He was terrible against Nashville last year and terrible against SJ for a couple years before that. He's just not a playoff goalie.

Yep, this is what I thought. Some posts were just making me second guess myself. Also, completely agree with everything you said. Mistakes like this happen all the time in such a fast moving game.

Maybe I'm wrong but doesn't the puck have to be in the zone actually? It has to completely exit the zone, past the blue line to come out, so isn't it the same going in? I've played hockey my whole life but that's not one I can answer for some reason. It escapes me.

That's definitely offside, but it happens. They can't catch every play exactly as it should be in such a fast paced game. Fact is, two defensemen and a goalie still had a chance to stop him.

I'll never forget either last season or two seasons ago I think it was when the Wings beat the Hawks in OT and he let out a very obvious sigh on air right when they scored. It was very unprofessional.

Once again, read where I said he wasn't as bad as the rest of the team. Nowhere did I mention that goaltending was "the issue" tonight, but it wasn't 5 guys on the ice at a time that played bad, it was 6. There were NO bright spots tonight.

Me saying he wasn't as bad as the rest of the team is pretty much an agreement that he was the least of the problems but it doesn't mean he wasn't one. You know what goalies get payed to do? Stop breakaways and power play shots. Anytime a goaltender lets in 5 goals, he is not doing what he is payed to do regardless of how bad the team in front of him is. Everyone on the ice was terrible. The only reason I even mentioned that the goaltending was bad was because too many people are trying to say it wasn't. Everyone is in agreement about the rest of the team.

Goaltending was pretty bad too. I wouldn't say as bad as the rest of the team, but Howard was pretty awful.

I always notice when the defense sucks, everyone gives sympathy credit to the goalie. Sure he had a ton of shots on him but on three breakaways, you'd hope he could stop one of them at least. I'm not blaming him for anything but he wasn't much of a step ahead of the rest of the team like everyone is trying to make him out to be. This team, all-around, has sucked tonight, including Howard. He's just starting where he left off as he was pretty damn bad in the playoffs last year as well.

They are flat right now. They need some big hits or a quick goal, something has to give them a spark or the whole game will be like this. I'm not concerned because right now we aren't seeing a bad team, we are seeing a team play bad. if they start to play good and get man handled, then it'll be a different story but they are just standing around out there. This is where tootoo needs to start throwing his body around.

Some people over value our youth. We have been too good for too many years and have had s***ty draft picks because of it. Yeah I know, Pavs and Z were 9th and 10th round, but that is a not going to be a common occurrence. I really don't expect anyone to come up and end up being any better than a Fillipula type player at any given time. Smith may be the one exception as he seems like he will be a great D man, but we'll see just how great he ends up being.

Way to take things out of context, man! In this thread, it was obviously meant as being appealing to free agents and players. The way I view the team is no different and never has been and never will be.

Raf was quite the D-man, though he struggled his last season here.

Regardless of these two guys not coming here, if anyone honestly believes this team is as appealing as it was let's say 5 years ago, you are only fooling yourself. In the last two seasons we have lost two ELITE defensemen and our stars are only getting older. I don't think it's as bad as some people are making it out to be, but we certainly aren't the be all-end all like we once were.

I don't think Sammy is an overpayment, really. Hudler will probably get around 4 million and I'll take Sammy over him ANY day. That guy scores some timely goals.
