IMO Holland missed the boat BIG TIME this year. "We tried to make some things fit?!" Try harder. Detroit's defence is #1 in the league already. Yeah, it did just get a lot better, but our offence is still a one trick pony. I haven't lost faith in the Red Wings, just Ken. The best GM's make great moves at the deadline, where's that secondary scoring everyone was hoping for? OH, they're in pittsburgh, dallas, washington. All we needed was a solid 2nd line player, center or wing. I sure hope Franzen, Hudler, or Filpulla can somehow turn into a solid second line sniper over the next few weeks. Although it's very unlikey.

This is what Robert Lang did well in Detroit a) Take up valuable 2nd line minutes b) Eat up salary c) Hold on to the puck too long d) Show other's how to play lazy hockey e) be a complete and utter disapointment We were frustrated with him, Chicago is frustrated with him. I have never watched a guy move his legs less than Robert Lang. The only reason we're even talking about this is cause we're desperate for some secondary scoring, which WON'T be provided by Lang.

My strategy against Peter Forsberg: a) Hide all the Icy Hot from the Avs dressing room. b) Every time my player has a shot, shoot at his feet. c) Pay off a security guard to ram his foot in a doorway.

Anyone else notice the lack of production from Hudler, Sammy, Franzen, etc? It's brutal, I've watched there last two games, CAL & VAN and our offence looks impotent. I know I know, Lids and Rafalski not being on the point is huge. But I mean c'mon guys! Chip in a few bangers or "ugly" goals. Draper? Maltby? Still alive there guys? I know their specialty is killing penalties, but bang one home! PLEASE! I sure hope Ken makes a move soon here. We really REALLY need to adress our seconday scoring. Yeah, we ARE in the top of the league for goals for, but Datsyuk and Zetterberg look beat, they can't carry an entire teams offence on their shoulders alone.

yeah his save % blows which is really the defining statistic for a goaltender. Daryl Sutter said it best "I don't care about GAA, I look for wins and a good save % in a goalie" It's not hard to have a good GAA when you face 20 or less shots a game. For most of the season hasek has had a save .20% points less than osgood. this might not seem like a lot, but let me break it down. Osgood 0.917% Hasek 0.904% MEANING, out of 1,000 shots. Osgood will stop 917 while Hasek will stop 904. THUS, Osgood lets in 13 less goals than Hasek. For a guy who's supposed to be our starter, not so OSgood...lol

I'm at least seeing ppl agreeing that Filp, Huds, Sammy etc aren't producing enough. I always kinda feared this was gonna happen. Some good points have been brought up about our Dmen being hurt is to blame. They do after all set up beautiful outlet passes and quarterback the PP. Unfortunately though, I think we can blame the forwards cause at the end of the day. A forwards basic job is to score. A defenceman's is to defend. I know, in hockey they kinda go together but UGH! I just wanna see some more production. I live in Calgary, and let me tell ya, watching the Flames games I feel like they are more of a threat to score with their top 3 lines than is Detroit.

Agreed. I feel TONS more comfortable with Howard as opposed to Hasek. Hasek is washed, he plays on his goal line and seems to give up VERY deflating goals. Give the kid a chance, at least he is mobile. I love that he is a butterfly tendy too. Detroit has never really had a "new style" goalie in their system for awhile. Osgood plays a hybrid style which is fine, but Hasek's "roll around like a fish/stop shots from the goal line" isn't working. GO HOWARD!

I agree. Especially about the loyalty thing. As cool as it's gonna be to see the grind line re-united, I think Holland has to stop thinking about the past and more about the future.

I know! It's brutal! I don't even think they need a Hossa or Sundin per se, but like, two 20+ goal guys...or something like that

Problem is, Hasek healthy isn't necessarily a good thing. For the majority of the season Hasek has been inconsistent. In fact the only consistent thing he has done is play worse than osgood. Kronwall coming back will help for sure, agreed. I didn't say Hossa either. Even if detroit can land a strong 2nd line center or winger, it would be a big boost. If we dont make a deal, it'll be a toss up for the west. If Kenny believe's we're perfect through and through, he's on a pipe dream! The best way to become better is to adress your own weaknesses. If we do, we'll roll through the west!

Pretty much, it's hard not to argue that the wings need a move before this years deadline. As predicted, Ozzie's stats are coming back down to earth, and Dom's "stained glass" groin/hip flexor/back isn't holding up. Not saying Detroit should get a new goalie, (cuz they won't be able to move either) but they definately need a toughman on D to enforce, or are gonna have to land a star forward. As much as I love datstuk and hank, they can't be the entire offence for detroit. Holmstrom chips in as much as he can, but to be honest, I don't feel like detroit can score when that line is off the ice.

The NHL wants to know why hockey is a '2nd-tier sport'
cboth686 replied to NHLrules?'s topic in General
its true. the nhl complains goals are down? Well stop waving off goals that should count! LOL, that ref waved that off before it was even in the net. Not to mention he was on the wrong side of the net to see if Holmstrom was really interfering with Giggy. He schould of called that a goal, and went up stairs to toronto to get their opinion. -
Sorry, why don't the first two months count for Hasek? I'm confused...

If we can continue to limit our shots on net to under 25, we're fine. Having guys like Hasek and Ozzie allows us to strengthen or skaters and control the puck; instead of staying back on our heels and relying on our goalie to bail us out every game. Good point, however there is games that we limit teams to less than 25 shots a game and still loose....Kind of like today how we held anaheim to 19 shots and they still managed to score three goals? We can't win cups like that!

Trust me, I've been a die hard wings fan since I can remember watching hockey, AND I'm from Calgary. So here goes: Hasek isn't a goalie the red wings can use to win a cup. Osgood is playing great, maybe even a little too great for me to think he can keep up these numbers. The one thing detroit has always been missing is a Kiprusoff, Luongo, Giggy, Vokoun, Nabokov, Turco, etc. What you probably noticed is only one of those tenders has won a cup. We have two on our roster that already have. Hasek WAS the best, maybe ever, as his 6 vezinas point out, but that game on Saturday was terrible. Those 2nd & 3rd goals were so soft, and those are the types of goals that KILL teams in the playoffs. I was so angry when I heard Kenny signed Hasek in the summer, I was really hoping they were gonna get somebody new. Hasek isn't nearly the same Hasek, his GAA is great (but as we all know that pretty much a team stat.) His save % is almost a whole .20% less than Osgoods! How does our 6 time vezina winner explain that when the two play behind the same defence!? All that said, what's the bad part about this? We won't be able to get anyone new between the pipes until at least next year. I think Hasek only signed a one year right? No one will take him at this point in his career, and with Osgood's numbers and the now much larger size of Osgoods contract, no one will take him either. (Not to mention many fans, and probably myself would be livid!) Even here in Calgary, no one is afraid of our mighty red wings! Why? Because we're still missing the key cog in the wheel and that's between the pipes. So before you freak out, I love ozzie, but in all honesty, I don't know if detroit is really that much different than we were last year. Yeah we were close, but we could be miles ahead with a true #1 elite tendy back there for us.
