What happens when your little brother grows up?

Wigns usually move 3-5 players in the offseason with new faces, whether it be youngsters or free agents. So I'm expecting a little more this summer because age has finally caught up with a few guys + the previously stated 3-5 guys coming and going. so obviously... Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Franzen - Filppula - Samuelsson and then you have Cleary, Maltby, Draper, Hudler for sure, Helm should have a spot, Leino will be competing for one as well as Abdelkader. McCarty, Drake and Downey may be gone. That is basically our forward situation, we may sign a forward, 2nd/3rd line caliber who can score 10-15 goals a season and plays a solid defensive game. As for the Defense, Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall are on board. Chelios would probably love to come back but I'd rather seem him doing something in the front office or an assistant coach or something, because we need to let our younger guys develop a little more. Lilja may not be resigned by the looks of it, which is okay because it would serve the same purpose as Chelios retiring and letting a younger guy get some icetime. Lebda is under contract still I think, and as much as we all think that he should go, he is a fiscally responsible defenseman to have on the team. So let Quincey, Meech and Lebda battle it out for the bottom pair. The Stuart situation is up in the air, but all signs pointed to him leaving as soon as he got here, with his life+family still out on the west coast. He has played pretty well and would complete our top 4 nicely. If he decides to leave, so be it. We would replace him via free agency most likely. Goaltending... I think we all expect Hasek to be gone after this season, because of his age and role on this team. He may be able to get a starting gig on a weaker team like LA, but does he really want to play for a losing squad? Osgood is our starter as he should be and should have been all year long. Jimmy Howard should make the transition from AHL to NHL, competing with this other tender from Sweden for the backup spot. All in all we have a very deep and talented team that should be contenders for years to come

^^^ Don't send Draper packing, but one day we will know Darren Helm to be our 3rd line center. Let Draper help him out a bit (doesn't really need any but veteran experience always eases the young guns minds) and in 5 years you have yourself a mold of Kris Draper although maybe slightly better offensively (positive thinking)

Penguins have been playing well, guys... these pens fans aren't lying. Flyers could barely enter the zone last night, they were playing great team defense. But I still agree our blueline is in a different league than theirs... Scuderi is going to get burned, Gill will get burned. Not for lack of effort or skill, its just what the Wings do. But on the flipside, I can see Cheli - Lebda/Lilja getting scored on, on a nightly basis by the pens. Wait and see I guess.

pittsburgh is great but will not be able to hang with motown 5 on 5 because of our depth and great two-way play.

i am from ontario and i am ashamed to be canadian when i hear grapes open his mouth. he is such a tool... has he no self respect anymore? the way he dresses just underlines how cooky he is.

im fine with that, but i would take meech or quincey over chelios pretty much anyday of the week (unless chelios is playing one of his better games that night) he is just getting too old and slowing down.

Ribeiro should get a game because you can't just chop a goalie like that. If the NHL doesn't punish him, the Wings will. (They will anyways)

i hope kenny feels the same way as you guys about the filppula thing and gives him a low salary contract which val signs ASAP, because he could making more elsewhere (kevin lowe anyone?)

i'm all for it but keep in mind franzen has to resign soon and he will want a decent upgrade on his salary, zetterberg is due for a big upgrade, filppula will want money too. If we get rid of some of the lower end guys (lilja, lebda, chelios, kopecky, downey) and just call a couple guys up (helm, abdelkader, meech, ericsson, quincey) we might be able to swing it.

Ever seen his teammate Fairy Boberts cry to the refs? It's like daytime soaps. Same goes for his ex team mates in Toronto (Darcy Tucker I'm looking at you)

ahah wow this is unpresidented. two of the biggest assholes to ever pretend to analyze hockey on one station!

I was about to say... I'm from Toronto and I'd like to consider myself a knowledgable hockey fan, with the wings being my favourite team. During the regular season I watch as many hockey games a night as possible, so I see a lot of games. I watch my share of penguins games and Crosby does not dive anymore than any average NHLer does, and he certainly doesn't do it to the extent where he can be labelled as a "diver". Of course the media blows it up and discusses it to death here in Toronto, so my meathead leaf-fan friends hear all this stuff about him diving and would bet on their mother's lives he is the biggest whiner/diver in the league. Everytime they bring it up i ask them when was the last time you watch a penguins game? they don't even watch hockey, they watch whatever it is the leafs are doing...

He has had my respect for years. Ever since I saw him crying in the semi-final against the US in the under-18 tournament basically. A lot of people were critical of his tears but I loved it, he wanted to play so badly, he wanted to win so badly and when the americans basically took him out of the game with their tight defensive coverage he got frustrated. he is a gamer, he wants to score every shift he is out there and will do anything to do it. 3 cheers for Alex the Gr8

Draper, because for a long time he looked like the only guy playing playoff hockey. Datsyuk was solid as well, like he should be. Lidstrom is always great, the best defenseman in the game. Kronwall is really showing up each night which is so good to see. Osgood is a "winning-machine" (Kelly Hrudey), he was so good in the pipes. Franzen, Hudler and Samuelsson all played great hockey. Dom and Zetterberg kind of let me down. Zetterberg looks like he is forcing himself to play instead of going with his instincts. Cleary needs to take it up a notch.

I would never shake Avery's hand if I was Brodeur. Why does he deserve a handshake? He cheats and plays dirty and talks s*** all the time. I do recognize Avery contributed on the score sheet in this series, but in my opinion his childish, moronic antics far outweigh his 2 or 3 goals. Good for Marty

Not to jump the gun, but the topic creator is right. Not saying its all on Dom, but even tonight, goals 9 seconds apart? On what I would say both save-able shots. I'm not going to jump ship and say get rid of Hasek, put Osgood in or anything, but I'm praying that Dom retires after this year because I can't handle this anymore. Pretty much everygame I have to leave the room at some point because I have 0 faith in him. tonight I walk in to the room, Suter scores, Arnott scores, I knew the game was over. Dom is making my hair fall out in clumps basically.

All of you people who are fine with this need to give your head a shake. Imagine a clown like Tootoo did this to Dom in game 3, I think you might change your minds about this. Avery really has no place in the NHL. The guy is a joke.

This guy needs to sort some stuff out. The other Stars members seemed to know that Lids is a great player and I thought that was classy. I also find it classy that they spanked the Ducks 4-0 in their own building

i really dont like this guy. he doesnt go one period without hitting someone high, from behind. everytime he does it all he ever says is "i didnt see him" or "he turned at the last second". just silly. gotta give credit where it is due and agree he did play a good game and does have a thing about burning the sens when it counts.
