    Hossa - Why?

I have a question for everyone. It seems to me that most people want to get Hossa from reading the other threads in the general discussion. Why do you want Hossa? Isn't this the same place where people have said all season long we want grit and heart and physical play? Hossa will score some goals, I can't downplay that, but I thought you all wanted a (preferably North American) forward who can score and hit? I am not against getting Hossa I am just curious. It seems like all the people who want him think he will solve all of our scoring woes, but if you take a look at his playoff #'s you might throw up a little in your mouth. I know what the response will be: "Well you can't say he won't play good in Detroit surrounded by our guys, let him play with Datsyuk and Zetterberg and he will score, blah blah" but he played on a few talented Senators teams in the post season and didn't do much of anything. Just looking for some insight because I don't know why you guys would want him over anyone else...

    Hossa - Why?

It seems apparent to me that a lot of people aren't seeing it the same way I'm seeing it, which is fine. I really hope I'm wrong and that we get Hossa and we destroy everyone with our offensive wizardry. I am just trying to be realistic and not hyping myself up for dissappointment.

    Hossa - Why?

Going off of what he has shown us over the past couple years I would think he will score maybe 10-15 points this playoff run. He always takes a couple games to get into the groove of playoff hockey doesn't he? He never really tears it up like he does some games in the regular season. I hope he scores 20 or 30 points though The 10-15 range is assuming he plays 2 or 3 rounds of hockey, we can't be too cocky on going the whole way

    Hossa - Why?

Great arguments. Very true on the last playoff run, Datsyuk wasn't so great at the beginning of the playoffs but he really turned it around and played great. The next point I bolded, I hope it really happens. I hope we get Hossa and I hope he makes Pronger look downright silly. My fingers are crossed. My toes are crossed. My eyes are crossed. Everything is crossed, but I highly doubt its going to happen. Pronger would most likely head shot him or something filthy

Where in the world did I ever say the last two deadlines? and your substantial additions are what I am talking about when I said a couple minor additions.

    Hossa - Why?

I'm not predicting the future, I'm going with what has been proven in the past. I'm going to predict right now that the Wings don't get Hossa, we make maybe one or two minor additions, though. Kenny wouldn't give up whatever Atlanta is asking for because he never makes huge deals. If it turns out we get Hossa and he plays well (we don't even have to win the cup) I will be the first person on here saying I'm sorry, I was wrong. I don't want to come across like a Hossa hater or a non-believer in this team, I'm just trying to be realistic in this scenario.

He has been the proving that to all of us. I'm just telling you how it is.

    Hossa - Why?

How do you explain Hossa's play when he was on the Senators? They had good, talented, rounded teams and they rarely made it past the first round. Hossa has something like 13 goals in 50some playoff games. I'm sorry I just can't see the upside to getting Hossa. Lets say he turns out just to be a rental, I'm positive we won't win the cup if Hossa is supposed to be our big addition. Think about us playing Anaheim, we would get knocked around so badly. We need some guys who have offensive abilities and can play the body well too. If it turns out that we get him and sign him to a multi-year deal worth what roughly 7 million a year, then that means we win a couple more presidents trophies... great. And then fail epicly in the playoffs year after year. Phenomenal, I'm all for it. Lets try and get the softest team out there and see how badly Anaheim will crush us. Hooray.

    Hossa - Why?

I'm pretty sure Datsyuk's name in on the '02 cup, correct me if I am wrong.* But I agree Datsyuk shy's away in the playoffs for sure, so why do we want to add another "scorer" and put the weight of carrying our offense on their shoulders if they are going to play poorly? They are both regular season players... As you can see in the standings, we don't need to win in the regular season, we have that part down pat. Its the playoffs that really count *I am wrong

    Hossa - Why?

What playoff credentials does Hossa have other than becoming invisible?

    Hossa - Why?

I'm in the same boat, SweWings. I just need to see some deals get done, I'm losing my mind. All of a sudden Mack_Attack says that Sundin is waiting to waive his no-trade clause to go to Anaheim. Its a rumor folks, its believed to be true, has a good chance of being true, but do any of us know for sure that he is going to waive it or even that Anaheim is the team offering the trade that we are waiting on? What if its us? Too much assuming, I need to see something get done before I start jumping on this Hossa bandwagon too lol.

    Matt Ellis on Waivers

I enjoy your presence on these boards esteef, thanks for that point. It just seems to be so clear to me that the Ellis thing wasn't just to "make space for the new guys". Wasn't he the captain of the Griffins when he played there? Even if he doesn't have much upside, you don't let a leader walk away from your organization like that. And hearing that Wings scouts went to a Blues/Kings game right after hearing rumors about Stuart coming to Detroit, it just seems too likely to me. Holland said himself that his priority is getting a defenseman at the deadline. Fits like pieces of a puzzle to me.

    Matt Ellis on Waivers

I don't know how you can say unlikely when its been rumored that the Wings are going to get Stuart off the Kings for at least a week now? It might be a little out there but it just seems like something is in the works to me. Why would we waive him otherwise, as the guy above me said we have a handful of players on IR ... doesn't make sense to waive Ellis to me.

    Matt Ellis on Waivers

I'm pretty sure Ellis is part of a package going to LA, think about it. Why would Detroit waive him? LA doesn't want to pay his entire salary so Detroit waives him knowing that LA gets first crack at picking him up... Holland and Lombardi had worked this out earlier, I'm almost positive. I guess we will just have to wait and see

    Ellis Waived according to Eklund

I can really see a deal being done with the Kings now... part of the deal was for Detroit to give them Ellis, but the Kings didn't want to pay his entire salary, so Detroit waived him and Kings picked him up for 1/2 salary. Just a thought I had.

Simon Gagne out for remainder of the season

I don't know why the Flyers would be upset about this injury, he's not good is he? I don't think he's ever been healthy enough to make a case for being an elite NHL player.

Flames Obtain Jim Vandermeer for a third

I just heard this myself... leaves me somewhat confused. I thought the Flyers wanted guys like Vandermeer on their team heading into the playoffs?
  18. I was just listening to the radio, they mentioned Filppula for Hossa. I don't if they were meaning straight up or anything else, but would you pull the trigger on that deal if it were to come up?
  19. Showcasing Ericcson for Toronto/Sundin? ... just a thought.
  20. Yeah those are all fair arguments. I was just kind of playing devils advocate, even though I truly do want Sundin more, I still would love to see Hossa play for Motown too. I was just kind of under the impression that people on this site wanted players who were more closely fitted to Mats' mould rather than Marian's (Solid skilled forward who can hold his own in the corners etc. VS. another "soft" European forward) - and yes I am aware that they are both European but who is stronger on the boards or going hard to the net, you know what I mean?
  21. Umm... well I guess we are all entitled to our opinion. I would rather describe it as snake bitten or that we have had dissappointing efforts from some of our guys (Hatcher, Legace, etc.). Great players that didn't live up to their potential. But I ask you this - if we have been "non-existent" for the past 4 of 5 years, why add someone who will ensure this "non-existent" nature? Why not try a guy who will bring it every game come play offs for a crack at finally getting a legitimate chance at the cup? Hossa was playing on a 3rd seeded team in Atlanta last season and I personally thought they might go far. I had been under the impression that 2nd or 3rd round would be realistic for them last year. Hossa was a big factor they never won a game, he never really played his game. We all know Mats is a gamer and whether he is 37 or not, I'm sure he will bring more enthusiasm and heart to this club (exactly what we need come playoff time) than Marian Hossa.
  22. The only argument I could bring up about Hossa vs. Sundin would be last year. Hossa was non-existent during his 4 games in the post season. Sundin would have given a kidney to play a series of playoff hockey last Spring.
