GDT ECQF Game 4 GDT : Tampa Bay Lightning at Red Wings, 7:00 EST
cupcrazy replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Your always going to be disappointed. I've never seen another player with the heart Steve had in any sport. I really don't expect to see it again. -
All night last night I was disgusted with the Wings playoff push effort, I felt yes they made the playoff's but didn't deserve it. Your comment actually sums it up perfectly and make me feel a lot better about the process. The Wings did earn a playoff spot over the course of a 82 game season.

Wings are playing very well, if we could just get a little space! -
I forgot Weiss was even on the team, thanks for reminding us .
-
Big win to start the season. Power play looked flat, but seen some promise.
-
Come on, they better get the lead out.
-
We need a goal, seems like it's been days since Dats scored!
-
I agree, Holland has done a great job today giving Dats and Hank all the help he can. In the salary cap era he can only do so much.

Dreger: Filppula looking for $5.5m/season over at least 7 years
cupcrazy replied to a topic in General
It is amazing how much player salaries have gone up in the last decade, especially considering production from players has gone down while there salary expections have gone up. A decade ago 5.5 would have gotten you a 40 goal scorer, now it gets you a role player? I remember John Leclair had three stright 50 goal seasons from 96 to 98 and he got around 1.5 mill a year, then he was rewarded with a 9 mill a year contract from 02 to 04 and never scored more than 25 goals a season. I wouldn't give Flip more than 2.5 a year, but that is me. -

On the play leading up to the goal I'd say without a doubt. -
Our PP isn't much better.
-
Beautiful goal, thank God we didn't start the season 0-2.

Best thread in months! Go Wings, glad to have the game day threads back!

I was told the same thing after calling. I still don't get why Directv customers have to pay 10 more than everyone else. Would I be wrong in assuming Directv is insisting on the extra 10? I can't see the NHL and it's partners charging Directv more than they charge all other carriers. I know 10 bucks isn't a deal breaker, it's just the principle.
-
It figures Directv would be higher , everyone else has it for 49.99 but Directv just had to have 59.99. I like Directv better than any other tv service I've ever had, but damn they nickle and dime you to death. I really didn't want to give the NHL any money this season, but I just can't turn my back on the Wings. I'll order it since it's only 60 bucks.
-
Finally the puck can drop once again! Now the NHL just needs to offer NHL center ice for free for this shorten season!

Wait, now I'm confused. You started with Yzerman wasn't even 2nd best of his era, now your changing it to all time and asking were would Howe fit in? I have no idea were Yzerman ranks all time, but there is no doubt for about a 7 or 8 year window if not for Lemieux and Gretzky he would have been top two at the least. Yzerman has the slight edge on Sakic with points production early in there careers, Yzerman sacrificed his points production to become a beast of a two way forward to become a complete hockey player. Between him and Messier you can debate either way. My point was if not for the two GREATEST FORWARDS EVER playing during his entire prime there is no question Yzerman is considered top two during his ERA.
-
This had nothing to do with the fact Yzerman shared his prime with the two greatest forwards ever in Gretzky and Lemieux? He would have had the most points in 88 and 89 if not for the two greatest players of all time. Lemieux had 199 points, Gretzky had 168, and Yzerman ONLY had a punie 155 points that season. Yzerman scored over a 100 points a season six years in a row. Had he not shared his prime with those two he would have had a lot more hardware. No he was the 3rd behind Gretzky and Lemieux
-
You sure that wasn't practice?
-
This is true, but there are still times when other teams double up on Dats and take away his space to the point they basically shut him down. My point was Feds is more athletic and stronger and had the ability to power through guys, where Dats has to out deke them or he isn't going anywhere. I agree about your other points as well, Feds could do it all, his only limitation was his lack of desire at times. I didn't mean to imply that was the ONLY thing that separated them. To me no one ever shut fedorov down, there where just games it seemed he simply didn't give a damn.
-
To me the one thing that Fedorov could do that I've yet to see Pavel do consistently is power through with guys all over him. We've all seen Pavel make a quick cut, a quick dangle and leave the defence in there tracks. I have to say thought as much as I admire Datsyuk when two or more players swarm him and play him tight he struggles at times to make things happen. No doubt one on one the guy is rarely stopped. Pavel needs space, where Fedorov just needed the damn puck. Fedorov might not of been as flash as often as Datsyuk but when he tried he was strong enough to power through multiple defenders in ways Datsyuk just couldn't do. Fedorov scored with guys all over him. How awesome would it have been to have them both in there prime at the same time in the winged wheel? It would have been magic out there...... I agree harold, if I was forced to choose it would be Feds 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.
-
I love Dats and I'm damn glad he wears the winged wheel. He has pulled off some moves that are breath taking. As far as the Dats vs Feds debate, to me they played an entirely different game. I don't see, nor have I ever seen Dats as a goal scorer. Pasha is a play maker that has an amazing ability to create space and find his team mates in a way I've never seen anyone else do. Fed's was an amazing power forward that could take the game over at will and put the puck in the net when we had to have a goal. I see Dats as a play maker that can score, and Feds as a pure goal scorer that can do it all. All this debate about goalie pads and league goals average during there era's proves nothing as to which is the better player. To me comparing the two is like comparing a wide receiver to a corner back. They both can catch and run routes but have different roles. Comparing goalie pads at the end of the day is just ones belief to try and prove there point. In my OPINION if Feds had half the heart Yzerman had the greatest player of all time would be a debate between him,Gretzky, and Lemieux. I do believe Fed's was the far better individual player, but they played different roles so i don't know how you'd pick one over the other.

I don't blame Ilitch or other owners of successful teams not wanting to support teams with owners that can't manage there franchise or teams that are in markets they shouldn't be. The way I see it, owning a sports franchise isn't for millionaires, it's for billionaires. And you don't buy a team to make money, you buy a team because you already have a successful empire and you can AFFORD to own a team. I figure these owners are happy to just break even. I've always hear teams don't make profit unless they go deep in the playoffs, you knows how true that is. I know in the real world if a business is failing other owners of successful companies don't share there profit with the failing companies, why should the NHL be any different? Fact is we all know there are teams in markets they shouldn't be in. Those teams need to relocate or just go away, I know if I had a team that was making profit I wouldn't want to share it with failing teams. I just don't believe a person should own a team unless they could support it without making a penny from it. I'm guessing MR I could make the wings payroll without the team making a profit because he owns other companies that make tons of money. I just don't think you buy a team unless ur a billionaire.....
