zednik very easily could have died. once again its a bad comparison. perhaps we should bring up kevin walker and if he apologized for ending bo jacksons football career as well? would be an equally useless comparison!

great news. had to work and missed the game. i know the grifs have had trouble scoring at times this year, so great to see such an output from guys like tatar and mursak that should have futures with the wings
-
pretty sure he is right on though really whats the point of banking salary? first, without hudler, the wings have no legit assets to trade for a deadline guy. no way should they move young guys for a rental. second, the whole reason hudler is expendable is that the team has 12 good forwards right now. with draper coming back, the bottom 6 will have less room. so any decent deadline player would have to be a defenseman, and that makes the market that much smaller and competitive. and heck, at this point, i am pretty ok with our 3rd pairing as well.

kinda funny that it was hands down datsyuk. even in the first season after the lockout, it was pretty obvious who the better player was. also pretty funny to read about datsyuk being such a slouch at D. i am sure his selke trophy begs to differ (yes i realize he has progressed, but its not as if he was lebda bad at D to begin with)

they did. but it was more than 20 years ago. (only slightly obviously) the point being that since that cup win, the only success they have had is the 04 run. i believe that is the only year they have won a playoff series since then. its not exactly the chicago cubs or anything, but not winning a playoff series in 19 of the last 20 seasons is pretty futile.

their hatred for detroit and claimed referee bias makes it well worth it most of the time. the hyperbole and homerism there is often well worth the trip.

well not all of us have the same access to nhl games as you!!!!
-
the other aspect is that it gets him out of his dads shadow. every time brett has had success and gets moved up, people wonder if its nepotism or not. i think its best for his career to get away from that and be able to prove himself and get on an nhl roster full time. though if he and cousin brandon are both with the canes, how would they do the names on the jersey? would have to include at least 3 letters of the first name. though also it should be noted that his dad probably won't be around in calgary much longer either. so he probably could have stayed.

there is some merit here as far as the pushing. i think most arenas do try and keep that under control. no need to have the glass shaking for half the rink because a fan is pushing on it. even if the possibility is small, no need to put that extra force on the dashers. but as far as just banging, the glass should be able to handle that just fine.
-
i could care less about people that bang on the glass. maybe they should focus more on banning the people that stand up every 5 seconds and wave to the camera???? thats 10000 times more annoying IMO.

because hes already played in over 10 games. i assume he had another year of eligibility in college, however, i think he had declared he wasn't going back. part of the problem with college kids as opposed to junior players is that if you are going back to school, you have class in august. so you need to know what you are doing. with chl players, their teams are always more than happy to have them back, but with college, its kind of hard to wait until october to decide after that 9th game.
-
you have 10 games to send a player back to juniors or college and not use a year of their ELC. smith is no longer eligible for that clause. the clock is now clicking on him regardless.

Should we risk our future for an elite defenseman?

before the season started white's stock was pretty high, but he has been pretty brutal this year in calgary. most of calgary has looked awful, but many nights white has looked particularly bad. -

the problem with this is its hard to even come up with a hypothetical that would land an elite dman. i can only imagine what it would take to get doughty. i don't think the wings have anywhere near enough assets to land him. the wings don't have enough assets to trade for a top D. we probably won't have the cap space in the near future to sign one as a FA. i don't really see how there's much to debate. -
they finish off most PK's now. gets them out there to start the even strength time. not to mention they are pretty good pk'ers as well.
-
personally, i had no problem moving him as steve said; he wasn't working here. in the playoffs i felt he was just on a hot streak. however, i am still waiting to make the call. give it another month or two and i think we will have a much better idea on long term success. heck, it was that very similar 9 points in 13 games with us in 08-09 that made fans get such high expectations.

any support for playing macdonald friday against the oilers? i know howard is young, but i would hate to see him overworked early in the season. the oilers are still one of the worst teams in the league as far as points. however they do have that young talent that can score goals at times. would it be an opportunity to get macdonald a game and rest howard without giving up 2 points? regarding the rest of the news, good to hear. gotta get ericsson back in there to see who that 6th dman will be. janik played well while up though. the 3rd line looked better the other night, so hopefully they can keep that going. personally, wouldn't mind seeing modano sit for a game instead of hudler though.

why would buffalo want anything to do with an aging defenseman who is not particularly great in his own zone? any package that could get miller here would consist of players that fans dont want to give up. if anything, i think the wings would be looking at having to put 3-5 solid players in the deal. mostly because they don't have any young top end talent that is needed to get a franchise goalie. the only way rafalski makes any sense is because he has a similar salary. so really the fact that kenny hands out nmc's has nothing to do with it. if miller was so concerned with coming back to michigan, he wouldnt have extended his contract in buffalo. besides, theres nothing wrong with the starter the wings have. they just need a more consistent backup.
-
i do agree with you here. and really, i am not of the 'zomg please someone trade osbad to the oilers!!!!!11' mentality. however, i at least respect someones right to have that opinion. personally, i think osgood has been playing poor. outside of the 08 playoff run, he has been pretty poor for 24 months now. i would bet his cumulative stats since the start of the 08 season are fairly poor. and since lots of people think stats are unimportant i think just watching his play agrees with the poor assessment. he has certainly had good games and good runs, but to me, his play has definitely been declining for the past 2+ seasons. with that said, i think he is still capable of being a decent backup. however, he cant have 1st periods like last night. you have to give your team a chance to win. the wings dont have many options other than to ride out this season with him as backup and hope he plays decent. if he doesn't though, it certainly will get ugly on here.

actually i will let it go because i don't want to clutter up the thread any more with your worthless posts. why don't you just stick to posting pictures of yourself in the pictures thread? like i said, i don't see the point in joining a hockey message board if you aren't even going to talk hockey. but i guess that makes me up in arms. guess i'll see ya around in the other threads with your unfunny drive-by comments!
-
i think the thing you have to remember is that osgood played his way out of the starter role. its not as if he was given no chance to play. and his poor play was one of the reasons that in the spring the team needed to ride jimmy so much; they needed the points. this year, he was put in 2 games early. that would have put him on pace for 20 games or so that a backup gets. last night was his 3rd start compared to jimmy with 5. so maybe we could stop playing the 'oh he never gets to play' card. well if i wanted humor i would turn on comedy central. (last nights daily show is actually on right now) but i happen to come to lgw to read others opinions about the wings and offer my own. i am pretty sure thats why roughly everyone comes here. and man, i must be REALLY up in arms about all this. after all i spent a whopping 45 seconds typing a message on a message board! talk about irrational!
-
do you ever actually contribute to discussions? the only time i ever see you post is when you try to come in and be comic relief. usually you fail miserably though.
-
you do realize someone can watch the games and still think osgood hasn't been playing well? quit stereotyping people. i have saw that little comment several times and its lame. i actually love how there are all these posters that spend all day complaining about how bad other fans are for saying negative things. if you dont like whats being posted in a thread, stop reading it. despite what many of you think, its ok to think that players aren't doing well. if i think the 3rd line stinks right now, or that osgood is really falling apart, or kindl might not be so great, well thats my opinion. it doesn't mean i am a box score fan, it doesn't mean i am a bad fan; it just means i have an objective opinion about part of the wings roster.
-
assuming they don't start looking any better in the next game or two, i still think flipping the bottom 6 a bit would be best. obviously its best to work abdelkader in asap, but its hard to sit anyone on the 3rd line, and the 4th line has played well enough to not warrant any benching. i propose moving modano down to the 4th line and moving either eaves or miller up. i guess before everyone jumps on me, i should reiterate, i think its best to be a short term move. i think the miller switch would have the least impact. as far as even strength goes, miller actually averages almost as much toi as modano. its currently 9:38 to 8:47. so it wouldn't be a huge change in playing time for either guy. that would allow both bottom lines to get fresh looks and perhaps spark without changing minutes and hopefully not be drastic enough to make modano upset.

trust me its not worth it. they will just troll your rational post and then all pat each other on the back.
