in 02, mccarty was a bottom 6 grinder with a few fights. NOT an enforcer. but if you actually think the wings have proven they can't win a cup without an enforcer then you are insane. Its just a fact, live with it and stop bringing it up when your main argument is detroit hasn't won in the past without an enforcer because its just not true, plain and simple.
-
so if having an enforcer is all that is required to win a cup, why don't we win one every time we have an enforcer? if having an enforcer is so important to winning a cup, why didn't the wild ever win one with boogaard in the lineup? additionally, your assertion is actually false. the wings won a cup in 2002 without an enforcer. name me who was the enforcer on that roster? it wasn't shanahan; he was a power forward that scored and occasionally fought. and it wasn't mccarty either. he had 12 points and only 7 fights in 60+ games. those stats indicate he was nothing more than a bottom 6 forward that fought occasionally. that is NOT what an enforcer does. there were 73 players with more fights than dmac that year. the only other guy with multiple fights that year was avery. he is also not an enforcer by any means. he is a best player that happened to get in a few fights. while his measly 4 points make him look more like an enforcer on the stat sheet, he play since then has shown it was not a lack of skill that caused it, but merely youth and inexperience.

this is such an absurd assertion. thats like saying we can't win a cup without maltby since he was on all 4 cup teams. i am all for debating the merits of fighting and even the usefulness of a dedicated goon. however, its silly to imply that one is NEEDED to win a cup or that any of our 4 cups (especially the 2 most recent) were impacted by having a dedicated enforcer.

thanks for the stream drumnj. i muted the tv and am using your audio. still get the HD quality on the tv with ken and mick and no outer space audio issues! what a nice shot by mursak. great to see how well he has played. with both him and tatar in GR, theres a couple of quality prospects in the next year or two. -

i wonder if they can do that? since its a home game, i assumed nhln would have the wings feed, but guess not. -

is anyone else experiencing FUBAR audio? i am getting weird interference/mic feedback. i can still hear karen newman singing ok, but there is background noise. should be noted i am getting the leafstv feed through nhl network. -
its about time. maybe be a little more informed next time you open your mouth. but go ahead and keep harping on the piracy angle. because there are so many people in here defending that part of the equation!

what are you talking about? heaten has already shown he gets his information from a 10 year old website. i think its quite obvious he is not qualified. here is a real simple way to show how his thought process is flawed. in his post where he bases his calculations off of totally flawed information, he comes up with 60 dollars a day for hockey streams bandwidth costs. yet, in order to serve up video to that many people, the site would need multiple t1 lines or several t3 lines. there is no way that sort of bandwidth can be had for 60 bucks a day. even on his outdated link, it lists 800 a month for a t1 line. i wouldn't be surprised if their bandwidth costs is in the 5 figures a month.

it was an attack post because multiple posters have repeatedly pointed out where your flaws in logic are yet you continue to ignore them. as far as that link you give, it makes me laugh reading. it gives all its benchmarks in reference to 56k connections. so i looked at the page source, it was made with frontpage version 3 which is frontpage 98. so you are looking at a website that is at least 10 years old. good luck with that though!

heaten, as someone who also works in the web industry, you really are missing the point here. you seem to have your niche of knowledge and are not understanding at all what others are saying. its great you have 11 sites, i am sure your mom is proud, but thats not exactly something that is hard to do. sorry for the condescending attitude, its just getting really frustrating seeing you argue your point which makes no sense at all. also, we get it; they are still streaming illegal content. no one is disputing that. people are just disputing your understanding of how much bandwidth costs.

he is doing what analysts get paid to do; give an opinion. as others have said, bouwemeesters bad year last year leaves him open to this criticism. heck, once he signed that huge deal, he had to know that he was going to catch a lot of flack unless he started winning norris trophies. i think i read he was the 3rd highest paid dman last year. he certainly was nowhere near the 3rd best in the league. calgary fans seem to be the only ones that actually have a problem with it. and i guess i can understand being defensive about one of your players. unfortunately, the only defense anyone has is that peca is unqualified to say what he said; as if any of us message board badasses are any more qualified than peca?

wikipedia has a pretty decent explanation of the blackout rules: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nhl_center_ice#Blackout_restrictions as mentioned, versus often has exclusive rights to the timeslots that they have games showing. nbc usually has the same exclusivity rights on the weekends. one thing the nhl does is not schedule competing games during those times so that there aren't games that get totally ignored. so often its not a problem.

you do realize that as soon as the goon gets on the ice that the person he is trying to attack can just as easily change on the fly? dobbles

IMO, there is a flaw in the justification that enforcers are needed to prevent opposing players from taking runs at star players. the flaw is that if a player is dirty enough to purposely try to run other teams stars, having to fight someone isn't going to deter him. additionally, most of the time, if a player makes a dirty hit on someone, he doesn't even have to fight an enforcer. why? because if he just took a run at a star player it basically means that the enforcer is currently on the bench. with the instigator penalty and the fact that line matchups are hyper specific, there is just little chance that a player has to even be on the ice against the enforcer. i think it would be interesting for someone to do an analysis of fights. i think you would find most legitimate enforcers only fight each other. and while that does provide some entertainment for fans, it has little to do with the outcome of the games. however, because teams carry these heavyweights, other teams feel they need to have one of their own to counter them.

do you have it through your cable provider? the reason i ask is because these 2 complaints i often hear from cable subsribers that have CI. i have it through direct tv, and i would estimate that 95% of the games have both feeds and probably 90% have at least 1 HD feed. so to the OP, i would be cognizant of how you are getting CI. i personally have never known anyone to have it through cable, but like i said, the complaints of brett are ones that i read online from folks that have it through their cable provider.

dominator, you are making yourself look really stupid. you should walk away man. you may think you are fighting the good fight (pun intended) but its just not happening for you today.
-
if you can afford it, get it. i was able to get it for free last year due to the dispute between versus and directv. it was amazing. i was able to see most of the wings games (i did have to miss the ones on versus because of the fight) but i would say i was able to watch at least 75 games. most were in HD as well. there were a few times where i would have to watch the other feed and not get ken and mick, but that was pretty sparse. additionally, its really nice knowing that pretty much every night you can come home and turn on some hockey. as someone that loves watching any hockey, it would be nice to have it on as i was working on things. even it if was the thrashers and panthers, it was still hockey. there are lots of ways to get it cheaper or free online, but IMO center ice is well worth it. even if you just want to watch wings games it only ends up being 2 bucks a game.

some guy just called nhl live on the nhl network and asked if darren helm should be moved to defense to get more minutes. so i guess big E has to watch out for helmer too! (personally, it was the dumbest question i have ever heard)

you know the best thing about that fight? that it did NOTHING to make lidstrom heal faster. just like the game against the penguins the other night, it doesn't matter if you have a worthless goon on the bench, players will still be aggressive and people will get hurt. i am all for fighting in hockey. i really am. but what is the point of a goon? they aren't a deterrent to dirty play. the only people goons fight are other goons. maltby has spent years being a ****** and never fights; because players can just skate away. guys like avery can go out there and be asshats all they want. because 55 minutes a game, the other teams goon is on the bench. and for the 5 minutes they happen to be out there, its against the other teams line of goons.

you know whats awesome though? ritola averaged more TOI in his games than downey did! so obviously mike babcock thought ritola was a better player by giving him more time out there. i guess his hockey knowledge trumps yours. also, why the f*** do you have to put your name in all your posts? the forum shows who posts everything. why waste your time typing it? and before anyone asks why i care, its because i find it annoying. it causes extra line breaks which makes scrolling take longer. especially on a mobile device.

Pre-Season 9/22 GDT: Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins

while i see your point and agree with it, i giggled a bit when i read that maltby is part of our 'A' lineup. dude will be in grand rapids soon; he's not helping you prove your point! -
great, now i have to go watch les chiefs to get my lnah fix!
-
yeah, amen to that. i doubt i would care much if i hadn't spent the last 3 years in a city that had a team involved.
