i got over it about a day after the game. c'mon guys what is the point of sulking all summer over hockey? when i thought about the wings this summer it was with excitement over young guys like ericsson and helm getting to be part of the team. and personally i could care less about the penguins. in my opinion they didn't win the series, detroit lost it with their subpar play. i am not threatened as a fan by their team. i am still worried a lot more by teams in the west than the crappy penguins. at least now that they have a cup, the rest of the nhl can get on with their lives and stop hearing about how long it will take cindy to make it to the top. and p.s. - pretty much the rest of the league's fans think that the wings benefit from a league conspiracy to help us win, so i find it ironic when people try to play that card for the pens. its an equally absurd concept no matter which way you look at it. EDIT: also i am pretty sure they put different covers on the catalog depending on which team is your favorite... pretty much every catalog i have ever got from the nhl shop has had wings on the cover.

its all preference. what if i were to replace 'rounded square with a stick' with 'wheel with a wings on it' how would that go over? you can't make other people like/dislike what you want them to. just as no one can get you to change your likes and dislikes.

i thought the reason that the whalers jersey/logo is never used was because the city of hartford owned the rights and didn't want anyone using it. am i totally out to lunch in remembering that?

my sentiments exactly.

i am of the opinion that the nhl is stupid for dealing with versus/oln. while they certainly could not have predicted that this vs/directv spat would happen, they are the ones that knowingly entered into a deal with a unproven partner. its like in the nfl, if you sign terrell owens, you have a reasonable expectation that he will freak out and screw up your team. you might not know exactly what he will do, but there is a known risk and if it backfires you can't claim ignorance as you knew what you were getting into. so i just see this as the nhl getting what they deserved.
-
thats not really the situation. thats in another thread. i assume it will get worked out soon. just posturing in the media. i could be wrong, but i doubt anyone misses a game of hockey because of the versus/directv drama. and personally, as someone who has traditionally only seen about 7 redular season red wings games a year, the addition of the nhl network and the ability to get center ice is a much bigger deal than versus. where it gets hairy is the playoffs. but i think the odds their fighting goes on till april is pretty slim.

here's a thread i started last month as i was considering switching to directv http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60157 for what its worth, i did switch. and i love it so far. i am in illinois, so the only hockey i got on cable was versus/nbc and the hawks games on comcast chicago. i have already watched more hockey on nhl network this month than i think i saw all last year on cable (minus the playoffs)

why would we want schneider back at all?!?!?! i think he would have to be up there with williams and bertuzzi as players we do not want back as fans. obviously not everyone ever agree's, but i would have thought schneider would have went over like a lead balloon. sure rafalski has a high salary and schneider is cheaper, but i don't care what you can do with the extra money it would be a bad move. as far as stuart, i too am amazed so many want to trade him. though i traded him on nhl09 just because he was playing awful. but i understand that running a team in a video game is different from real life!

it's my understanding that all those fsn channels have the games blacked out for out of market folks though.
-
it seems like a lot of people are quick to give up on directv. to me this is just a normal bargaining tool to keep prices down. its no different than the struggles the big10 network has had trying to get the prices it wants. we really don't know if its directv trying to lowball versus or versus asking for too much from directv. versus is pretty lame in teh regular season, so as long as its resolved by april when the playoffs start, i am fine with it. i think now that they have college football, if those games get canned, people will freak out. the american sheeple love their college sports!

yeah, but when hockey first started on OLN it very much was a hunting/fishing based channel. i think cycling might have been around back then, but that was about the only thing they had when they got the nhl deal after the lockout. they have done decently well at rebranding themselves, but they are still a pretty low priority channel for most people.

yeah we still have zero players here in qc. actually wouldn't mind him since we don't have anyone.

So, I think I can now safely buy my #52 Ericsson jersey

this is totally off topic, but saw vigilante play for the QC flames last year after he got loaned to us mid season. i really like him as a player. he's one of those 110% guys. while he doesn't have a ton of offensive skill i think he would be a great depth player in grand rapids. not sure if he would ever have nhl upside, but definitely a good guy to have prospects around. -
hey micah the semantics police called. they want to talk to you about being such a ****** on the internet.

as someone that always has watched on tv, it seems like most fans are more worried about turning around and waving at the camera than watching the game. though i am sure they are the ones sending texts before and after they stand up and look like an idiot. "omg i just made myself look like a douchebag on tv it was awesome!!!!111"

interesting article...williams signed to be a 3rd line center?
dobbles replied to a topic in General
yeah, i really don't see anything wrong with the 3rd line not being a checking line. why not have 3 scoring lines and a 4th line that is the shut down/checking line? not that i am implying that suggested 4th line with holmstrom would be shut down or anything, but it just seems weird that people assume certain lines have to have certain roles. to me having a 3rd line that can score puts other teams in an interesting position. all of a sudden they might have slower less skilled guys out there that can be exploited. addiitonally, they would probably be against the 3rd pairing D which would give them extra space. -
Which of the following players will produce the most points?
dobbles replied to BeeRYCE's topic in General
i voted for williams simply because i think he will get the most ice time; especially on the PP. i by no means think he is the most skilled or best hockey player though. my gut reaction was to pick leino as i think the guy has the skills having seen him as an ahl player several times. i think he might get the ice time to make a run for williams total, but being a younger guy might not get there yet. -
We lost 88 goals and get back 76 goals - Good Job Kenny!
dobbles replied to Snazzy's topic in General
this topic is about whether or not the recently signed forwards can make up for all the lost production. how does ericcson even figure in to that? maybe brad stuart will score more goals this year, so i guess its ok we lost hossa! the 2 things have nothing to do with each other. the reason hudler played on the third line and bertuzzi played on a top line? calgary has nowhere near the forward depth that we do. todd bertuzzi is going to slot in just as low as hudler did. unless you are now arguing that bertuzzi is better than hank, pavel, franzen, etc? and money was the main reason hudler went to europe. to pretend its because he is too weak or short or some s*** is just absurd. i think the hudler supporters have been very logical in their arguments. no where do you see them saying hudler was the best forward on the team or any such statement. simply that jiri hudler is currently better than todd bertuzzi. but we all know you hate people that don't fight. so i doubt that makes any sense to you. -

dobbles replied to Snazzy's topic in General
you gotta be kidding me?!?!! while hudler is not exactly mr. popular around here right now, i think that statement is absurd. in the last 3 years hudler has put up 124 points while bertuzzi has only put up 93. and before someone remarks that bertuzzi hasn't play a full season, why is that a good thing? why pay him that much money when he will just be injured half the time and we will need someone else to cover for him?
