Bertuzzi, Cammalleri Happy To Be Back In Canada
dobbles replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
hey, at least you can admit it which is more than most. i don't have the same conflict of interest that has plagued fans of teams that pick him up because i don't hold any ill will against him for the moore incident. i think it was an accident and that he has got shafted pretty good because of it. though when the wings picked him up, i was disappointed just because he didn't seem to have anything left in the tank. though i totally thought kyle calder was going to be the bomb that spring!!!!! j/k ;-) -
i always get baffled by topics like this... you hear folks say 'he was supposed to be really good but hasn't played yet' and then write the guy off... but if he hasn't gotten the chance to play, how do you know if he really was good or not??? i think howard has been a very good goalie in the ahl. at times, one of the best in that league. yet people write him off because he hasn't been given a chance. its not his fault that he doesn't get playing time.

gotcha. i guess thats how it goes. its usually the troll type people that take the time to register on other teams forums. i have found as a red wings fan that i have been accepted on their forums and had lots of good debates with their fans during our playoff run. -

last year the flames moved their ahl affiliate into my town. so i am a season ticket holder now because i love hockey. so i have become somewhat of a flames fan. but i also have been an active member on the calgary puck message board for a while now. and let me say this, i find their fans to be rather nice and easy to get along with. i will even be honest and say i feel more comfortable discussung things on their forum. too often fans on here resort to trolling. i have had a really good time discussing all kinds of hockey issues with their fan base. i think someone is still harboring a bit of resentment over the playoff loss 5 years ago... -

i think the biggest difference for bertuzzi will be expectations. he had a pretty decent year last year with 40 points. the problem was brian burke is an idiot and signed him to too big of a contract. they weren't exactly in a cap friendly situation with how niedermeyer and selanne f-ed them over, and needed to dump salary. sure, the guy isn't going to put up 97 points like he did 5 years ago, but he is still a good player. the flames signed him for a much lower price and won't need him to put up huge numbers to be a great signing. the problem now is with the fan base. half the people are suddenly forgetting they hated him, while the other half still can't let go the moore thing. but thats a debate thats been had too many times. -
don't get cubs fans confused with blackhawk fans. us cub fans are a tortured group of souls. we don't get to smack talk as none of us were alive the last time we won the world series. regarding chelios, i think if he wants to go to chicago, now is a good time. his role with the wings has finally diminished to where chicago might have more to offer him as a player. but i personally see him doing as others have suggested, signing a $1 contract so he can retire as a hawk and join their organization. but they do have lots of young d men that might benefit from having him around. also, i agree with those that say he was probably just playing to the media. heck, everyone loves to bring out that video of him hating detroit, yet he had no problem playing here. he just said what hawks fans wanted him to say.
-
you have no idea what its like to be a cubs fan!!! we will soon be nearing the point where no one is even alive from the last time they won the world series!!!!
-
i dont think they are making the comparison based on recent playoff success. i think the comparison is that year in and year out the wings are the best team on paper. additionally before the cap era, there was the fact that we, like the yankees, would pay a lot of money for players. additionally, the yankees have the reputation of always winning the championship which the wings have been successful at several times recently. so i think in that sense they are compared because they get championships. but overall i agree with the poster that said montreal is a better comparison for that aspect. additionally, you have to factor in the aspect that the wings like the yankees are a very polarizing team. fans either love them or hate them.

i am listening to the chicago cubs game at work on the radio. he is currently being interviewed by ron and pat (the radio team). he said he has a deal for next year but hasn't been around to sign it and isn't into the tech stuff to keep in touch. then the cubs did really terrible and they had to cut the interview short. edit: it might be worth it if anyone has the chance to catch the cubs game on tv to see if he says anything during the tv interview in the bottom of the 7th.

apparently hawks fans aren't taking the visit too well... multiple threats of violence on here: http://boards.chicagoblackhawks.com/index....=27322&st=0

i agree. he did pretty decent. wasn't sure how the fans would react. the key to singing, is getting low enough for the first note. its significantly lower than the rest of the song.

+1 for this reason i didn't really know much about hockey (though we watched some olympic hockey on tv in grade school in 92) but started playin nhl94 on sega. the wings were my favorite team on there. yzerman-federov-ciccarelli was unstoppable when i used them. never looked back from there.

i am just a red wings fan that mostly lurks on this board. i have no idea who you are and can't say i have ever seen your user name before. but when reading this thread it became pretty obvious that you really just wanted to be a troll.
-
yeah it just so happens that everyone else in these threads disagrees with you, and no one seems to share your opinions... the only reason you think these people contradict themselves is your f-ed up definitions. and mccarty was NOT an enforcer.
-
yeah, like in 02 when mccarty had a whole 7 fights... real tough enforcer there... mccarty was a good grinder and physical player, but not exactly someone feared around the league. and your definition of pro enforcer is just stupid.
-
it shouldn't be that hard to understand. you don't have to be anti-enforcer to think that we can (and have) won without them. remember, goals win games, not fights...
-
fact of the matter is that this team keeps getting stronger at forward and maltby continues to decline due to age. sure the guy still has positives to offer, but many can be replaced by other players. additionally, that just means less time for younger players with a future here.
-
while it is debateable if maltby still has a significant role on the team, i think that should kind of eliminate any talk of him needing an A on his jersey. he's a guy with a diminishing role on the team. not exactly what you look for in your on ice leaders. sure, he can be a grinder and a part time pk'er, but i think he might honestly start seeing some significant healthy scratches this year. especially if mccarty and downey are back and can provide that physical aspect. don't get me wrong, i love maltby, and will forever relish him in my nhl97 season, i think his time has passed .
-
i don't see why people keep justifying why certain players left. i don't see that being mutually exclusive with why anyone is glad they didn't win a cup with the wings. i can be glad that schneider never won a cup with us while still understanding that he was trying to get one last big payday.
-
does anywhere make them in 3x? i got fat fter college and 2x is too snug on me!
-
i totally got the sarcasm and enjoyed it. actually i enjoy all the stupid people who took you literally even more...
-
i agree with that. i thought they could have pulled him when they had sustained pressure with around 2 minutes left. just one of those judgment calls. i would have played it a bit different, but thats why i am not an nhl coach!
-
and i used to think the whole nhl conspiracy to get sid the kid a cup was b.s..... now i know how wrong i was....

Dispelling some myths: the Pittsburgh Penguins
dobbles replied to betterREDthandead's topic in General
someone a few pages ago said that most red wings fan underestimate the penguins because we haven't seen them play that much. i for one, can say thats not true. as a wing fan living in illinois, i saw the penguins twice as much as the wing in the regular season. why? becuase every game on versus was the penguins vs. the capitals, the penguins vs. the rangers, the penguins vs. the flyers, etc.... so quit acting like no one outside of western pennsylvania has heard of the penguins. how many wings games has the average penguins fan seen? -
picking up on sarcasm isn't hard when you have a functioning brain... i am sure the guy was serious that his daughter scared him more than downey... heck his first post about abdelkader was funny in my opinion but immediately got taken serously. its not his fault you guys don't have good senses of humor. i haven't been here a very long time and mostly just read instead of post, butits pretty easy to see you guys do get your panties in a bunch over most anything. heck, with the way you guys complain about the players i would think you were ducks fans half the time. the guy was just adding his opinion. if he thinks downey should sit, thats his opinion. apparently not too bad of an opinion considering he didn't play last night. btw, when was the last time a fight caused a goal or won a game? its the 'everyone else has an enforcer so we need one too' mentality that allowed them to survive after the lockout. theres nothing wrong with fighting in hockey. but when every fight is between the teams 2 thug enforcers, it really loses its luster. if your there only to fight, then its worthless. i would rather see an actual playerget pissed and fight. someone that might be missed for 5 minutes while in the box.
