Special teams index is over 100, so at least that's something
-
I would trade Meech, Lebda, Leino and a 2nd straight up for Juice.
-
The awesome part is that Drapes has been noticably better than 90% of the rest of the team lately, so he's backing it up where it counts.
-
It is imperative that Holland keeps Draper/Helm/Eaves together beyond this season. They are playing amazing hockey at both ends of the rink and given a bit more time could develop into a consistent secondary scoring threat every night.
-
Eaves and Miller have played better than Leino in every single contest that I've seen them in together this year, bar none. I have not seen Leino play one exceptional game and every time he's in a position to make a play, he makes a poor choice and turns the puck over or gets stripped. Leino will make an excellent addition to the Wings when guys like Franzen and Flip are healthy and present to fill in the major roles, but he absolutely cannot be relied upon as a consistent contributor at this stage in his career. Hopefully he will take this year as a good learning experience and spend some time in the offseason adding bulk and working on his ability to compete for pucks and drive the net.

These should be the lines every single game until we get our injured back. -
Could Michigan Support Another NHL Team?

Pretty much ties up all loose ends here -
Homer came about an inch from scoring last night. With slightly better luck this thread wouldn't exist.

Last night in my area the Edmonton/Detroit game was blacked out due to Edmonton's geographical proximity with Calgary, the Vancouver game was a PPV and the Calgary game was a PPV. If I was a fan of Western Canadian hockey teams, I wouldn't have been able to watch a single one for free on TV last night. Luckily, you have an alternative in www.atdhe.net and justin.tv (among others) for live streams. Just thought I'd add my gripe.

Look at the bright side, at least the title wasn't "Lebda, Meech and Kindl"
-
Don't know how that wasn't a penalty shot, but thank god it wasn't I'll take a powerplay over a Homer penalty shot any day
-
and the evidence just continues to pile up against Lebda

This is an awesome move for both teams. I'm more than willing to bet that Tlusty will become a full-timer on the Canes by the end of the season because he's got far too much talent to be left out of the NHL. Tlusty had 66 pts in 66 gp last year for the Marlies and was 20th overall in AHL scoring. As far as the Leafs are concerned, Paradis is still a very high-end prospect and could very easily turn out to be better than either of the 1st round picks that were traded for Kessel. Very smart move by Burke to get this level of return from a guy who was all but guaranteed to be jettisoned by the end of the season once his contract ran out.

Those injuries are eyepopping when you put then together like that. Poor us? Poor them

I want Holland to somehow make Leino/Filppula/Hagman our 2nd line

You can add up the shot count til the cows come home but the bottom line is that Detroit hasn't been taking enough quality shots. They need to rework the offensive zone cycle and powerplay so the primary objective because a wrist shot or one-timer from the slot as opposed to the big boomer from the point. There have been far too many shots from the outside that the goalie can see all the way and manage easily.

Shed one offensively gifted loafer + dead weight to hire a different offensively gifted loafer at over 3x the price? I'll be the first to take a pass.
-
I, for one, am excited about this "Brad Lebda". I mean, could he really be worse than the Lebda we already have?

11/20 GDT: Panthers 2 at Red Wings 1 (OT)

An all too familar refrain: the Wings let a s***ty team hang around and they get burned -
You'd think at this point Craig Anderson would be getting serious consideration for being team USA's starter. Jonathan Quick would be another guy that should get a look for backup. Also, Ryan Whitney, Ryan Suter, Mike Komisarek on D would be excellent choices As far as forwards are concerned, I would scratch Pavelski and JVR in favor of Gomez Booth Gionta Drury Pominville Wheeler Tkachuk Langenbrunner That said, at the risk of sounding like an elitist dickhead I'm going to ask this anyway: Do any Americans on here believe they have a decent shot of medaling in Vancouver?

Wings 6, Stars 2 Pav x2, Hank x2, Homer, Bert Neal x2

Report: Toews, Kane and Keith close to extensions
Yellowknife Redwing replied to CenterIce's topic in General
I think the crackpot doomsday analysts are going to be sorely disappointed when the details of these contract extensions finally emerge. Is it a coincidence that all 3 extensions are being announced simultaneously? Perhaps, but unlikely. I would say that the Hawks management has likely been keeping all 3 parties in the loops in order to orchestrate a hometown discount by committee. I would not be surprised to see all 3 players come in significantly under their value. Something to the tune of Kane/Toews 4.5 hit and Keith 3.5. -
If Anaheim buys him out (which surely they'd have to given his price tag), I think Detroit should jump on the opportunity to sign him as a 1a goalie for 3M/season. Give him and Osgood equal opportunity with a "win and you're in scenario" and operate the goaltending situation with a similar approach to Osgood/Hasek. I have never been more confident in our goaltending situation than Oz and Dom splitting time in the crease. The unfortunate part is that Giguere's child requires special attention and his doctor lives in California so he'll be much less inclined to sign all the way up in Detroit. JSG may have fallen on hard times lately, but you're kidding yourself if you think that he's washed up at age 33. Given the right opportunity he could be on the right side of a Conn Smythe in the next few years.

Another idea for GM's - Shorten Season to 70-74 games
Yellowknife Redwing replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
The NHL should have an 84 game regular season while cutting the pre-season schedule in half and eliminating the overburdening of select teams in the preseason to generate extra revenue for the revenue sharing program. I'm all for the diversification of teams in the league, but when a team like Phoenix is just hemmoraging money it's time to take a more realistic stance on revenue sharing. The NHL is a business, not a charity. I'm not talking about economic hardships (which are the reason I support renevue sharing to a certain degree), I'm talking about genuine disinterest among the team's demographic. Either way, 84 game regular season, halved preseason is my solution. -
My vote goes to trading Franzen for Kovalchuk at the trade deadline who's with me?
