What a beauty! STEWIEEE!!!

Yeah, I know they wanted Flip for him...I just wish we could have snagged him cheap like they did

Stuart came from the basement dwelling Kings, Draper is our #1 shutdown forward and penalty killer and is only a -1, despite playing shorthanded so often, and Downey is an "enforcer"

Did anybody see how well Fedorov played in this game? He was absolutely terriffic QB'ing the power play with Ovechkin, made good outlet passes and backchecked well. I think it's a real shame that we didn't pick him up, considering the price that was paid for him.

I guess my interpretation of the Selke has a lot to do with defensive play contingent on offensive play. Take for instance that Ilya Kovalchuck has 45 goals (2nd place) and is a -12; if your superstar is performing like this, he is a liability, no matter how many goals he puts in the net. Dats has that much offensive prowess AND he's a +33, which indicates that he's also defensively adept and responsible. Add in the takeaway count and I think he's got it in spades.

Jovanovski is also -7 on the season and -36 career. He's had 2 seasons in his career where he was in the plus column. There are exceptions, but I think most of the time a defenseman's points are only as good as his +/- will support. I think Duncan Keith deserves a nomination over Jovo based on his +28 and being with one of the worst clubs in the league for the vast majority of the year. That said, if Nick doesn't get his 6th Norris, it will be grand larsony.

Disrespect: Tootoo Dislike: Pronger The thing that aggravates me most about Pronger is how most people excuse his dirty play based on his stats. Everyone was all up in arms about Chris Simon's 8th suspension earlier this year talking about how someone with that many suspensions shouldn't be allowed to play anymore...meanwhile Pronger's 8 suspensions are forgivable based on a Stanley Cup ring. Obviously I'm being a little facetious comparing Pronger to the likes of Simon, but I've got a real sore spot when it comes to Pronger

Haha, I was the same way about NHL '93 on the SNES. Steve Chiasson was my leading scorer every season.

1. Steve Yzerman 2. Nick Lidstrom 3. Paul Coffey 4. Dino Cicarelli 5. Brendan Shanahan

Cherry also said tonight that Chris Pronger is the most valuable player playing the game today. I like Don and all, but good lord man...get it together

I've been watching (and loving) the Wings 20 years this year

With Homer's relative invisibility lately and Lebda being a bit of a liability, it might be a nice change of pace to move a couple guys who have been achieving recently into a key role. Meech definitely deserves a look for some added icetime even with a pseudo-healthy d-core, and I would love to see Franzen get an opportunity with the top line based on his recent play. Am I the only guy who's noticed how stellar Johan's play has been lately?

I used to play hockey against Jordin in tournaments (in the NWT) when he was about 16 and this kind of thing doesn't surprise me one bit. He's always been a big time competitor but he doesn't know where to draw the line when it comes to the after-the-whistle antics and dirty plays. The fact that guys like Tootoo and Downey can repeatedly get away with this kind of trash is a clear indication that the "enforcer" has been all but eliminated from the NHL. The Semenko-Gretzky type of dynamic has been missing more and more every year and it's becoming a serious problem. Accountability is something that needs to return to the league in a big hurry. As for Tootoo's upbringing: get a grip. There are NHL players that come from far worse places than Rankin Inlet and have endured far worse. I don't discount the fact that being the first Inuit player in the league is an accomplishment, but lets not forget that there are players from war-torn areas of Eastern Europe who have been around a lot longer than this punk.

A buddy of mine at work is a Dallas fan and he's been breathing down my neck for about the past month. This should shape up to be a fairly exciting end to the season, with the President's trophy race being at least somewhat close. I can't really see the Wings faltering again though, and if Kronner and Rafi's returns are any indication, when Nick hits the ice again the rest of the leage had better look out.
