This is a standard response that I've read in several place, but it's completely and utterly ridiculous. "If they had beaten Canada..." News Flash: They didn't, champ, they got their asses blown out and they looked terrible while doing it. Unlucky to play Canada so soon? If they're as good as you're implying, wouldn't Canada have been unlucky to play Russia so soon? Do you think Russia would have had a different result if they'd played the USA in the quarters? Because I sure don't. The Americans would have killed the Russians with the teams and coaching they brought to that tournament. Russia easily brought the most talented and possibly the most favored team to the tourney and Bykov coached them into the ground. They didn't look like the elite team they were supposed to be and these inquiries and changes are definitely worth the time if Russia is going to be ready for Sochi.

3/27 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Predators 0 (SO)

Yup, he didn't just double clutch, he triple and quadruple clutched. If he'd done the single head fake, side step and just snapped it, that would have been the game right there. -

Way to go Wings, that was an awesome game to play on the road on the back end of a back-to-back Howard was absolutely EXCELLENT and I think we've gotta try Kronwall in the top 3 next time because nothing's working for us. Congrats to Eaves too, who now has the 2nd funniest shootout blooper of all time. -

Former NHL'er Fredrik Norrena cheapshots player..
Yellowknife Redwing replied to interminded's topic in General
From what I can see there, I don't really have that big of an issue with this. The incoming player was on a collision course with Norrena, was headed specifically for him and made no effort to stop. If Norrena doesn't hit him there, he railroads the crease. 2 minutes well worth it in that situation. -
Well I was being sarcastic, but I get your point

or maybe Ryan Miller's success is directly attributable to Tyler Myers! Which came first - the chicken or the egg? It's unfortunate that Myers and Duchene have had the hype machine rolling along all season while Howard has quietly gone about his business. Howard is almost going to identically match Steve Mason's Calder-winning campaign from last year, with the obvious exception of shutouts, but I still think he's going to finish 3rd in voting. The fact that many people have Rask in the discussion is mind-boggling to me. He's played 18 less games than Howard and has faced only 63% of the rubber that Jimmy has. The disparity in sample size is far too great to even keep Rask in the discussion as far as I'm concerned.

Hockey fans are no different here than they are anywhere else. They're just as passionate about their team and they don't want to miss the playoffs, just the same as we don't. I don't understand why everyone wants to run off at the mouth calling everyone idiots and douchebags just because they're upset about losing potential points. Chances are we'd be pretty pissed off if Edmonton gave Calgary a point with less than a second remaining in regulation and Vancouver gave Calgary the bonus point with less than a second remaining in OT. If Detroit got spanked last night, all the "sky is falling" theorists would come out of the woodwork and make this board look like a bunch of idiotic crybabies. My best friend is a Flames fan and on game days we poke fun at each other's GDTs. Believe me, this board can come across equally as childish and petulant as CalgaryPuck. It's all a matter of perspective.

It's not very often that I find myself wholeheartedly agreeing with you GMR, but here we are. 2 for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. It wasn't broken in the first place.

Are you referring to this gentleman, drafted by the Dallas Stars in round 2, #34 overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft? http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=70757

3/20 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Canucks 3 (OT)
Yellowknife Redwing replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I couldn't have picked a worse game to s*** on Zetterberg and Filppula in the GDT. Hopefully this goal gives Z a much needed spark. Good show by the boys in the last 40 minutes. -

Zetterberg has been utterly useless offensively. He charges into the zone and does one of three things: a) shoots from 60 feet with no traffic b) stops moving his feet, spreads his legs and tries to glide past 2 defenders c) cuts to the half wall, chews 15 seconds off the clock and gives the puck away Filppula is equally as useless because for all the flash and dash stuff, he never shoots the puck. Defending Filppula is like a night off for the opposing defensemen. Pav and Mule were invisible against Edmonton and they've looked fairly pedestrian through 20 minutes of this one. We may be outshooting them 17-8, but a good 10 of those shots never had a prayer of going in or yielding a rebound. Also, Meech plays defense while "being a forward". He collapses on the rush instead of attacking the guy crossing the line, which gives them a free pass into the zone on every rush. -

Good call, you should go cheer for another team and post on their boards. Your insight would be invaluable to the fanbase of a team that has real leaders. Go, make haste! Idiot. -
I'm hoping for a Flames win because I'm still hopeful that either Colorado or Nashville will take their place in 9th.

It's about as likely as Andreas Lilja finishing the season with 13 goals

Questions about potential next year's roster
Yellowknife Redwing replied to Leadzedder's topic in General
Yes I'd be happy with that roster and yes I think we could potentially be a top 5 team, but I'm not satisfied with our goaltending situation. It's naive to assume that Howard can maintain this pace forever. We've got a temporary solution to our goalie problem, but if Howard goes into a slump we've got a serious problem on our hands. Osgood has become completely unreliable and looks rattled, sloppy and incapable of properly making the initial save, if he makes it at all. -
Who is the Red Wings MVP this year?
Yellowknife Redwing replied to Never_Retire_Steve's topic in General
Howard. To say otherwise is to ignore the most obvious interpretation of MVP. Without Howard, this team is deep in the toilet. We might actually make the playoffs because of him. -
Why oh why is Lebda scratched and Ericsson inserted. Lebs has played very well in the past two games and came within inches of scoring a huge goal last game. Furthermore, we've been winning with E out of the lineup. I'm going to earn myself an Ericsson bashing reputation if I'm not careful, but I just don't understand this move.
-
Don't care as long as we make the playoffs. Remember kiddies, we were all really excited to face Edmonton in 2005.
-
He's noticeably more physical than any other player on the team by a wide margin, has made smart and simple plays and has made Brett Lebda look much better in the process. Lilja has been everything we've been missing with Ericsson.
