Yeah, a beautiful thing has to come to an end tomorrow. Alberta teams have lost a combined 21 games in a row and they meet tomorrow night, so someone's coming away with 2 points. Let's just hope like hell that Edmonton pulls one out tomorrow.

Chris Osgood proves Jimmy Howard should be in goal for Red Wings
Yellowknife Redwing replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
Disregarding posts and puck luck etc, if Osgood was in net tonight this game would have been 5-0 after the first period and that would have been all she wrote. Howard was absolutely outstanding once again and handled being completely hung out to dry for most of the night. -

I love how many of you are groaning about being tied after the first period. This game should be 3-1 minimum for the Preds. Any time your team gives up 4 unmolested breakaways in a period and comes out tied, you should be thanking whatever deity it is you think has f***ed us over this year. -

I'm not even mad about that. Detroit doesn't deserve to be in this game and that just shows the hockey gods do occasionally get things right. -

If Chris Osgood is in net, this game is 5-0 Nashville -
I am by no means trying to diminish the accomplishments of these goaltenders, because they are the all time greats. That said, with the exception of Hasek, they are completely irrelevant to the OP's point. He's talking about the modern game and you know it.

I like Shea Weber and I wish he was on our team

Further elaboration Jose Theodore, 5'11'' - 28th in the league in SV% Marty Turco, 5'11'' - 29th in the league in SV% Vesa Toskala, 5'10'' - 47th in the league in SV% (worst in the entire league) Chris Osgood, 5'10" - 44th in the league in SV% No bulls***, I think a Ben Bishop/Alex Auld duo would win you a s***load of games based purely on the fact that the puck is gonna hit them more

Well boys, Calgary is doing their part in helping us make the playoffs, so you'd better take advantage because they haven't won in 9 games and we're still behind them. -
Chris Osgood proves Jimmy Howard should be in goal for Red Wings

I appreciate the sentiment and I respect your opinions, but you've got blinders on right now. Can you imagine what our record would be like right now if Chris Osgood had been in net for the majority of our starts in the last little while? That 51 shot barrage in LA would have been an absolute ******* massacre with Osgood in net. You can say what you want about Howard losing just as many games as Osgood lately, but the difference in those losses is this: Howard gives this team a chance to win right now and Osgood doesn't. Howard stands on his head when he has to, has very rarely allowed what you'd call a "soft" goal and he competes like hell on every single play. Watching Latendresse's goal from last night made me sick. Osgood was way out of position, had zero lateral mobility and didn't even try to make a save. I feel more confident watching Jim Howard leave the puck behind the net for the D than I do watching Osgood field the puck outside his crease because 4 times out of 5 it results in a giveaway. This is Osgood's 3rd shot at proving that he can even begin to split games with Howard, let alone be the starter, and he's play absolutely attrocious. There are certainly other issues, but to say that goaltending hasn't been the problem in an argument about games lost with Osgood in net is just plain ridiculous. -
Bravo I got a solid laugh outta that
-
Exactly right. They may have been difficult stops, but he's not going to make any of them if he doesn't even try. The Latendresse goal was absolutely pathetic from an NHL tender. God damn I miss Hasek.

As much as I hate to say it, by the time it happens I'm more than willing to bet it will be called the Gordie Howe Memorial Arena

For the same reason that people don't want to see the Yankees win the World Series or the Patriots win the Superbowl. Detroit has been the best team in the NHL consistently for over a decade and this must be a pretty welcome sight to fans of those teams that have been on the receiving end of a decade and half of s***kickings. It's got to be pretty disheartening for fans of other teams watching the Wings with the 4th lowest scoring in the league, decimated by injuries, nearly every player playing well below potential and we're STILL occupying a playoff spot as of right now. You think fans of the Hawks or Sharks want to see Detroit come in 7th or 8th? A little schadenfreude never hurt us before and it's not gonna hurt us now. Let the baby have his ball for now and we'll see who's laughing later.

I'm not the firmest believer in Eklund, but you guys seem to have a misconception about what his "E" system means. If he was to arbitrarily select a number between 1 and 5 depending on how close he thought a deal was, his work as an "insider" wouldn't be reliable at all. All the "E" designation between 1 and 5 tells you is how many sources he's been talking to and whether they are internally connected to the team's management. The difference between a guy like Eklund and a guy like Darren Dreger is that Dreger waits for more concrete evidence before making a post. The only one of Eklund's ratings that means anything is E5 and he's almost never wrong with E5. E1 - This is a rumor that comes from a single reliable source not in any way directly connected to the players or teams involved. E2 - This rumor is simply more than one reliable sources not in any way directly connected to the players or teams involved and not connected to each other. It does not have to equate to two E1’s. It could be several E1’s. E3 - This rumor comes from a single source with ties somehow to the players or teams involved. E4 - This rumor comes from more than one source with ties to the players or teams involved. E5 - This rumor comes from source telling Eklund the deal is 100% done and just has not been announced yet.

He looked really good last game and created a couple solid scoring chances. All that needs to happen for him is the bounces need to go his way for 2 games in a row. His confidence is basically shot right now and he could just use a shot going straight through a goalie from a bad angle. He's too talented to keep being ineffective and you can see his work ethic is slowly getting better. But yeah, I hope like hell he starts to play great.

Thank the gods someone else has the blinders off

I was just on my way to post this. Are these guys on ******* drugs? Helm alone is worth more than Jack Johnson. Kings fans are in complete denial about this guy and it's ridiculous. What has Johnson done in the NHL to warrant any kind of contract, hype or trade value?
-
Where would you insert Jack Johnson into our current roster? He's not going to replace any of our top 4, so he'd go on the 3rd pairing. Have you ever actually watched him try to play defense? This conversation has nothing to do with +/- and everything to do with Johnson's past production and huge lapses in defensive play. He's a big, powerful guy and a terrific skater, but his hockey IQ is very low considering how highly touted he was (is) as a prospect.
-
Yeah, it seems like he became a star without actually become a star. All the JMFJ hype and comparisons to established NHLers haven't even come close to panning out yet. No bulls***, I would rather have Brett Lebda on this team than Jack Johnson.
-
I guess I'm the only guy that thinks Lidstrom at $6M/yr for the next 2 years is still a bargain.
-
Call me crazy, but I'd rather keep Lidstrom on for another 2 years and keep the team as it is.
-
If you're signing either of these players, you're signing them to score goals, period. Marleau is 30 and in 931GP has 311 goals. He's also been on a line with the best passer in the league for a few years now. Kovalchuk is 26 and in 589GP has 327 goals. He's also been on a team that is consistently one of the worst teams in the league. We haven't even see the extent of what Kovalchuk can do yet. He's still got a possibility of maturing physically and improving his game. The arguments you've made for Marleau are appreciable, but let's be realistic here. There is currently one other player in the league who can do what Kovalchuk does and he's pretty much universally regarded as the best player in the world.

You could edit this video and superimpose absolutely anybody's head onto Gaborik's body and nobody would be saying a word. If Gabby didn't understand the risks, he never would have tangled with the other team's tough guy, let alone dropped his gloves first. He was asking for a serious beating and got off the hook lightly. People who are complaining about this indicent need to go watch soccer or tennis, because this is a microcosm of how the NHL works.
