I got chills man, that was awesome. Particularly since they filmed big chunks of the XMen/Wolverine movies on UBC's campus.

Actually, after how lazy game 6 was played, OH GOD PLEASE DON'T KILL ME might be pretty apt.

It would to someone who's following the game to a decent degree, but the way the NHL showboats him as a way to draw in audiences makes it seem otherwise. As far as the media is concerned everything on his team seems to gravitate around him. Remember last year when he was injured for a long stretch? It was never 'Malkin comes up big for the Penguins (as he should given he has more points than him)', it's 'the Penguins somehow thrive without Crosby's semi-divine presence'. Or last year's trade deadline, did the analysts in Pittsburgh consider it a huge deal because of Hossa's personal numbers? Of course not, they saw him as little more than Crosby's Winger. Even Pittsburgh fans I know are sick of the slant always being made towards one individual in a 20-person team. *edit* I just realized that my initial comment wasn't entirely clear on what I meant by a one-man show, my bad.

I'm just sick of him making the game a one-man show. Hockey is a TEAM sport.

Dosen't get any more must-win than this. This kind of situation seems to motivate the Wings pretty well, better hold true now. Grind out the win and savour an awesome series against a Chicago team we've largely solved this season.

At least they cheered them off. Most other places the fans would be throwing garbage onto the ice.

I seriously doubt it. Even when we've played like ass it's been at best a one-goal game - one granted by the refs and another after three overtimes. For all the complaints of our back end this season it's not a glaring weakness the way it is for the Caps. Barring some kind of spectacular collapse of our blue line, goalie, AND our forwards' defensive play I wouldn't bank on being on the recieving end of a blowout by any stretch. In any case, the Penguins are more similar to the Wings in that they dominated shots and possession all series, they were overdue for a game like this.
-
The game will go to 6 overtimes. Ovechkin will score the winning goal by bellyflopping onto the ice and hitting the puck with his stick like a pool cue. Pittsburgh drinks kool-aid en masse.
-
Lol, Ovechkin assisted by Fleury.
-
Not THIS bad but I don't believe his defensive play has been stunning on average.
-
The comparison dosen't really work out. Penguins have dominated possession against the Caps all series and Washington's defense/goaltending is a glaring weakness.
-
I feel bad for Var, he was playing awesome earlier in the series.

Fixed.

This reminds me of a lot of the anti-Canada arguments made about franchise moving. People are making the argument that even a fraction of the potential US getting behind hockey would overshadow Canadian interest, yet being #1 on a channel barely anyone even has, let alone watches, is somehow better than even marginal support on a channel with infinitely more viewership.
-
dohohohohoho. If Bettman appreciated hockey he'd have given the game decent exposure instead of going after his paycheck.
-
Leino seemed to have a bit of a scoring touch on the 4th line, didn't he? Beyond that, what else is there? Putting Downie on the first line?
-
It's 'Let's Go Wings', not 'You Suck Wings' Go home.
-
And if he inevitably got in a fight, got injured, and is out too, then what? I keep saying it, having a single Downey - f***, two Downies - playing five minutes a game on the roster isn't going to magically make the Wings go 16-0 and it isn't magically going to make players score hat tricks left and right. Games 4 and 5 already proved that you don't need the Hanson brothers as a 4th line to make pucks go in the net, even against the Ducks. Deferring blame to the lack of one enforcer on the ice is shallow, the Wings have been dominating puck possession even in their bad games, what needs to be fixed is the kind of shots they're making with that possession. Having one guy skating around gooning it up doesn't exonerate the top 6 from not crashing the net, that's something THEY need to take responsibility for. So we SHOULDN'T have anyone in our top two lines out on the ice? I'm sure that will do wonders for our offense.

Hey, you gotta cite that sarcastic remark!
-
A good majority of those 'soft euros' are the reason we're in the playoffs to begin with. But hey, let's put 20 Boogards on the ice next season and see how far that takes us!
-
What can I say? If the Wings consistently played as though they cared this probably could have been over in 5. The Wings better milk home ice for all its worth, if a situation like this dosen't motivate them to play with their all they don't deserve the Cup anyway.
