Could be worse. We could be the Canucks

Saying it's the defense's problem is bogus, Conklin plays behind the exact same defense when he starts and so far has been responsible for EVERY shutout this season, including against a charged offense like San Jose's. It is NOT a matter of simply dumping blame on the defense and people need to stop resorting to that excuse; it simply dosen't hold water.

With all due respect, riding off of last year's success is going to make you wind up like the Ducks

Has Helm fallen off the radar or something?

G-Good god...my signature prediction may, possibly, somehow, actually happen.

Psychological experiments like these depends largely on a degree of unconscious - or at least distracted thought. It's easy to sit behind the computer screen, think it over, and declare it has zero effect. Quite a bit different when you're in a scramble on the ice where you're in the process of thinking on your feet and details like that are far from your mind. In those circumstances adrenaline and instinct are likely to create automatic associations like twine = net, or black = puck. This is why, like it says in the article, it works better in a scramble rather than with a further shot, where you're a little more open and you get that extra fraction of a second to interpret visual messages instead of merely acting upon them. To say that it's little more than a matter of being gullible is a little naive.

And so the butthurt begins.. :X

Honestly, if it's just a one-game thing, I wouldn't be opposed to people just boycotting the thing outright every year. It's not like the Wings are going to forfeit a playoff spot by missing two players in a single game, and frankly it seems like the best way to call for some kind of reform in the voting system and overall structure of the ASG.

Because obviously there's nowhere in the States that gets cold weather too. ***** some more. Nobody cares about hockey in the South, nobody ever will.
-
Move the All Star Game there too. Las Vegas can be a repository for all the consolation prizes and worthless games the Leage has to offer.

I remember last year when Datsyuk was in that thing, the one time where a Datsyukian deke is screamed for and he just wanted to score a normal goal, lol.
-
The funny thing is that you say that as though it's the one and only reason the ASG is a farce.
-
Or better yet, 'Save Datsyuk/Lidstrom' for the Ferris Bueller angle.
-
In other ASG news, Crosby - the all-time voting ballot record-holder - is not going to play due to injury. This is going to be a disasterous ASG.

I want to see Columbus pick him up just for the lulz.
-
Would it be in bad taste to remark that he'd probably be a better deal than Draper this season? :X

I was about to say, he holds a lifesize photo of the cockpit in front of him and runs through mental simulations. Occasionally he'll kick a leg out without looking up to block a shot.

Saturday is my birthday. Don't really have anything special planned but the Wings defeating San Jose on their ice would be a nice gift :3

You're the one describing the region that's keeping the league alive and the heartland of the sport YOU'RE following as 'podunk-ass' and 'godforsaken' (which again dosen't even make sense, I'm pretty damn sure there are big cities up North too) , so no; you're xenophobic AND an idiot.
-
Oh yeah, and a bunch of the 3rd jerseys that came out this season deserve honorable mention. The Thrashers football jersey, the 'Sens' and 'Bolts' 3rds that scream minor-league hockey (although it's oddly fitting, ba-ZING), the boring-as-hell white Dallas 3rd. Really the only good 3rd jerseys that have come out this season are ones that are just vintage remakes (WC jerseys included)
-
Now this I do support. If you're so hellbent on spreading hockey into new markets, don't waste perfectly good regular season games doing it.
-
but but but but the Wild uses a bear :X

IT dosen't offend me, it just tells me you actually know jack s*** about hockey if you need to resort to casual xenophobia to get your point across. That IS the essence of outdoor hockey whether you like it or not, to say anything otherwise is a laughable display of ignorance to the game. I must say that I would never have thought of describing downtown Buffalo or Chicago as 'godforsaken woods' but f***, the WC could be in Nunavut and you'd probably still be able to scrape together more local interest than you would in someplace like Phoenix. You're talking about putting a WINTER Classic game in an area that for all intents and purposes has no winter and that has such little interest in what hockey does exist there that a freaking Stanley Cup win couldn't even fill the parking lot, let alone justify a victory parade. If winning the game's top prize - the oldest, most famous trophy in North American sports - can't get people in the South to give a s***, how is playing a single regular season game on the worst quality ice the NHL will have ever known going to do it? If you really want to masturbate vigorously to the idea of Southern teams playing in the WC, it should be with them as the visiting team playing in a manner appealing to the vintage spin of the event. Something like Carolina vs. Boston in a Battle of New England rematch at Fenway with one-off Whalers jerseys. You appeal to the nostalgia of the WC, you involve a famed team in a historic setting, and you incorporate whatever Southern hockey market actually exists. Everyone wins. 9.5/10, would rage again.

It took me YEARS to finally figure out that the orange toilet-bowl stripe in that logo was actually an outline of Long Island and not something created by Pollock. I've gotta say, that logo is an overbusy mess IMO. You've got the location name, the team name, the Long Island map, the stick, the puck, all fighting for space in that little circle. The fisherman was hardly a masterpiece but I've never had the gag reflex-tickling reaction everyone seems to adamant to give it.
