It's in the style of the art made by NW Coast indians. It's a globally recognizable art style that the region is famous for and unlike the Voodoo (or the stick, flying V, or skate logos, for that matter) actually gives the team something resembling of a local/regional identity. Funny you mention it actually, I'd say the whale logo is easily the best one Vancouver has ever had and would say their generic stick logo is one of the NHL's worst. Honorable mention also goes to the Sabre's retro jersey, I have no idea why so many people have such an aesthetic boner for that thing. Someone elsewhere on the internet made a pic a few weeks ago of a Red Wings logo done in that style where a wheel was floating over a set of disembodied wings in a white red-ringed void, I wish I had saved it since it served as a perfect analogy for why that Sabres' logo looks so stupid.

He better not wind up being useless, I swooped in and nabbed him for my fantasy team the other week :X

Actually, I just thought of a couple different proposals: Carolina @ Boston at Fenway Park *Northwest team* vs. Phoenix at Canad Inns Stadium Complete with one-off Whalers/Jets uniforms. Both cases are going to have appeal to solid hockey markets and nostalgic team revivals while also offering a great way to integrate sunshine teams into the WC. In the same vein you could have a recreation of the Battle of Quebec with Colorado vs. Montreal though its a less likely scenario given that the Canadiens have already been in an outdoor game.

Wait, Luongo's in the lineup? He's not even eligible to play (yet), he hasn't played 20 games.

cern641, though NHL09 is the only multiplayer game I have atm.

To my recollection, the Leafs are using their third jerseys for all original-six matchups this season - including the ones at home. All it means is that the road team wears their colored jersey for the game. I think there's a few Pacific teams who do this in division home games as well.

I treated the Fitzpatrick affair as a means to drive home the notion that the problem is the NHL's system, oddly enough.

lmao, supposedly Semin was screaming I HATE YOU I HATE YOU in Russian when 'pummeling' Staal

9/10, would rage again.

TSN's article on Crosby/Semin's 'fights' includes an absolutely priceless pic of Sid: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=261932&...os=secStory_nhl

Those players are definately going to be there, though. Maybe not Ozzie given this season but Hank, Pasha, Lidstrom (and Hossa, if we're including finalists) are in some combination going to be in the ASG - they HAVE to, all teams need at least one representative - but they'll be selected by the league instead of the fans. The fan voting system is complete bulls*** but it should be remembered that they're only voting in 12 out of 42 players, and for the most part the guys in those 12 voted-in spots would be in the ASG anyway... well, maybe not most of them THIS year, but...

AMERICANS, christ.
-
I personally spam-voted Avery and Phaneuf into the starting lineup in the hopes that the ASG will finally be interesting enough for me to bother watching it :X
-
There HAS to be representatives from every team, so that's not happening no matter what.
-
What I find more laughable is that Crosby broke the voting record. He's been playing like s*** lately.
-
Heh, exact same goal he scored against Turco a few years back.
-
Speak up, we can't hear you guys from the podium. To quote Chandler (*shudder*): Could you BE any more butthurt?
-
At least Crosby didn't have a teammate pin his opponent down this time.
-
AWESOME goal by Esposito

Na na naaaa na Na na naaaa na Hey heeeeeey Goodbye Seriously though, I'm amazed the US lost that game. The Slovak goalie came in determined not to be intimidated by the US team and it payed off big for his team.

Looking for some desktop wallpaper material, ideally 1440x900 or larger. Maybe it's too soon after the event though.

Didn't that last-second Chicago goal mean Datsyuk's goal wasn't the GWG? It was by far the prettiest goal at least, though.

Nothing about TV ratings are going to suggest that people watching the WC weren't interested in hockey to begin with, there's nothing that proves that the WC 'converts' anyone. So the NHL giving the metaphorical finger to the only real reason it exists is a GOOD strategy?

Look at the teams the US played against coming into that game. That's like saying you're an awesome arm wrestler because you can consistently win against five-year-olds.
