I couldn't stop rolling my eyes and laughing, on CBC every time Crosby touched the puck in the Wings' zone it was "CROSBY COMING IN, WATCH OUT!" and then one of the three Wings on him nonchalantly taps the puck away and heads to the opposite zone.
-
CBC hasen't been much better, honestly. The entire pre-game was effectively about how Pittsburgh was going to bounce back in this game. Even Don Cherry, who has repeatedly selected Detroit to win the series, was all Pittsburgh.
-
Ozzie = "YOU. SHALL. NOT. PASS."
-
Let's give Pittsburgh the benefit of the doubt and say that the refs call Ozzie out for diving. Would the Penguins have scored, let alone won the game? Unlikely; they were simply incapable of generating offense in the Wings' zone, Detroit's blue line was skating circles around the Penguins and kept Crosby smothered from start to finish.

Well, if they split the first two games they get home-ice advantage. How they'd swing the series BACK into their favour I'm not sure.
-
I know, I know. I wouldn't have given the argument a second thought if the scoring results weren't so ironic.
-
Oh man, I also remember that argument you were having with someone last night about Detroit's 3rd line sizing up against Pittsburgh's 1st line or something like that. After the scoring in this game, I lolled up a storm.
-
Feed off the crowd. That tiny...tiny...second-smallest-in-the-league crowd crammed into the Igloo. Not that it matters much, Detroit is hardly unfamiliar to ending series on the road anyway.
-
None nearly this ugly. Last I checked, you WON those 'bad starts' (that Ottawa starting game was a shutout too, if I recall) If anything it felt like the opposite of earlier Penguins starts. They allow the other team to get the slip on them in the first period or so, then play catch-up for the rest of the game. Here the Pens had a strong start, then... they gave up? Detroit solved their offense? I don't know what it was, but it clearly worked.
-
Two observations: -I called it in the (looooong) wait between series - one needs only to look at Crosby's numbers to see that he's the key to Pittsburgh's excitedly-discussed offensive depth. The Wings' defensive play shadowed him effectively from start to finish, and although that first period had a few close shaves, that effort reflected itself in the Penguins' score. -What excites me is that unlike NYs or Philly's wins, this wasn't a case of Detroit getting a couple quick goals at the start of the game then finding themselves on their heels for the next 40 minutes as the Penguins play catch-up. They were a little slow to get on the scoreboard (disallowed goal nowithstanding) but the Wings showed that a team is capable of beating the Wings through 60 minutes of dominating hockey. This was a much less 'flukey' win than the Rangers or Flyers had, and that bodes very well for Detroit in upcoming games.

The wait has been so freaking long, I'm just glad the heart-killing anticipation is finally over
-
I'd still say the Wings have done better on the draft than the Pens have. Any team can be a dud for years on end and be doled out top prospects. The Wings are the ones finding the diamonds in the rough.

I must say, in last year's second round against San Jose I was seriously impressed by a shark thrown onto the ice in game... 3 I think? It wasn't at the Joe but I wouldn't have minded either way, it's an octopus ripoff but the shark they threw was ******* HUGE. I've gotta give kudos for sneaking that thing in.
-
I stand corrected.
-
Not only that, but Modano has been the one and only non-Canadian captain in the NHL's history to win a Stanley Cup.

Oh man, the Gatorade (Coca-Cola?) corporation is going to be absolutely f***ed if it isn't capable of doing an ad featuring a sport the vast majority of people in America couldn't care less about anyway! Get out the red ink, accountants, Gatorade is going into financial freefall because 30 seconds of still images wasn't produced!

What part of PITTSBURGH - 30 (read: DEAD. *******. LAST) are you completely incapable of understanding? Congrats, you can now fill a tiny arena with bandwagoning ******* who draw blank faces at the mention of Lemieux because the draft rewards terrible teams. It's like Calgary circa 2004. No thanks for me.
-
That's the worst thing about it, the NHL dosen't even give a f*** just so long as it means bigger numbers.
-
But it's not like the shape of the EDGE jersey dosen't allow for secondary logos on the shoulders. It works for the vast majority of the NHL's jerseys, why is it suddenly implausible for a one-off event for a jersey that has no secondary logos? Heck, when the Rangers played this years Hall of Fame inductee game they had the HoF patches on the shoulders.

If all Crosby wanted to do is play hockey he'd say no to all - hell, SOME - of these endorsements. Unless he's being shackled and forcibly dragged into the studio so he can spend all day posing in his clothing line, saying he dosen't solicit this coverage is nonsense. What, he dosen't earn enough money on the ice to survive as is? He dosen't even need to worry about room and board, he bunks with Lemieux.
