If Cleary really wanted to just keep playing hockey then he would report to GR. Hell, Chelios didn't want to stop playing and that's what he did when Atlanta sent him down. And if I'm not mistaken, there is something in the CBA that ex-players have to be paid a similar wage to what other non-players would make if they take a job with the team. So he can't just take any made up job and get his $950,000.

I'm gonnna echo the correlation does not imply causation sentiment. Even saying things are linked can be pretty vague and doesn't imply a causation (hell, it may not even imply correlation). I'm mean if being an enforcer is linked with substance abuse, I don't really know if there's a way to tell if the role of enforcer brings about the substance abuse or if some who is already prone to substance abuse is drawn to the role of enforcer. (or replace enforcer with any other violent sport) Edit: Though I will add, with all the new science of the brain that's coming and continues to come out, it be stupid not to take all that into consideration.

HAHA yeah he came way out of the net, shot it right into our defensemsan's shin pads where it promptly bounced right to that kid (who is from Marquette!) and he had a wide open net. This was a game soon after he had been watching Petr playing the puck. Jimmy says to the media, "I like how he just goes out and does it." So he thinks HE can just go out and do it! First of all, No he doesn't just go and do it, he's been practicing for years how to do it. Second, the playoffs probably aren't the time to start ******* around with that kind of s*** if you're not comfortable with it. Third, don't try to pass the blame away by saying "Yeah, the video guy said he looked and it and the puck was kinda on edge and that's why it took off on me."

I'm seeing it. His puck handling is probably one of his top 3 attributes. It's totally changed the game for our defenders. You can see in that clip that both defenders were there in position to take a pass (or at the very least tie it up along the boards, while Howie got back into position), Howard picks his head up to take a look, gave the body language that he was going to move it, then almost immediately he got unsure of himself or something and left it there for the other team. There's no point to sticking with Howard for the sole sake of staying with the familiar. He's already reached his peak, he's not going to get any better than what his best already is (which I admit would be fine if we had a team in front of him like '02 or '08, but we don't)

I will be one of them. Dear god, this guy has got to start living in reality. It's not 2009 anymore... It's been what, 4 years since he's been any sort of useful? He's already been given 2 charity contracts (which is just something that should never ever happen if you're serious about putting together a competitive team). I'm sure at one point he was a good 'locker room guy', but I can't see any way in which his behavior over the past few seasons could have been good for morale, especially for the younger guys. I'm sure watching a guy, with no production whatsoever, collect a paycheck just for showing up and going through the motions at practices is a great example to set I don't even want him on the Griffins. In fact, I don't even want him with the organization in any capacity anymore. GO AWAY DAN!!! GO AWAY!

My sister passed away about 3 weeks ago from cancer. A couple of seasons ago she had a chance to go to a Wings game. My dad had been in contact with the Wings people and they were trying to work out who she might want to meet if she got the chance. It was up to me to ask her who she wanted to meet. Of course, we were trying to surprise her so I didn't want to just come out and say "Hey you're probably going to get to meet one of the players, who do you want to meet?" So i would ask, "Hey Care, if you got to meet anybody on the wings who would you want to meet?" "DAN CLEARY!" she'd exclaim. So a couple of days later I would ask again. "DAN CLEARY!!" was the answer I got again. She knew they were going to be going to the game when she went down to Ann Arbor, so I tried again, "No..Seriously....If you really got to meet one of the current Wings players when you go to the game, who would it be?" I could not have given her a bigger hint without flat out just telling her! "DAN CLEARY!" So she and my dad and uncle went to the game and had a good time. Then the game was over. As they are trying to 'leave' the building, my uncle is leading the way with directions on where to go with my dad and sister following him. She still has no idea. They end up in an area where she figures they aren't supposed to be. "Are we allowed down this way?" Finally they end up standing against a wall with a bunch of other people with a Wings/arena employee telling them to just wait where they are. "Are we meeting players?!" She had finally figured it out. While they were waiting she felt she had accidentally bumped into someone behind her. She turned to say she was sorry to them. But nothing came out of her mouth. It was Nicklas Lidstrom that she had bumped into!! (This was during his last season when he wasn't playing due to his ankle) He saw she was trying to apologize and told her it was no big deal. Other players like Pavel and Zetterberg had walked through the hallway where they were waiting. Finally Dan Cleary came out and asked "Are you Carrie?" I don't remember much of what else happened (I wasn't there, just heard the stories afterward), but he was super nice to her, took a couple of pictures, and signed some things. The jersey says "To: Carrie Best Wishes Your friend, Dan Clear 11" He also had a signed bobble head sent to our house a couple of weeks later. I always teased her about wanting to meet Cleary over anybody else, but she really enjoyed the whole experience

I know they aren't official. As I pointed out there are multiple sites posting both cap hits with no way of know which one actually happened. Edit: I'm just as curious and uninformed about this as everybody else. We don't know officially what his cap hit was last year, but we do know that if it was in fact 1.5 (and stayed that way) then the rest of the hit would have to be carried over to this year.

I'm pretty sure they do have the option of putting on the same year or moving it to the next year's, But his cap hit was less than his payment last season... It has to be on this year's if it wasn't on last year's EDIT: Well, GeneralFanager (sourced from CapGeek) is saying his cap hit was 1.5 million last season. http://www.spotrac.com/nhl/detroit-red-wings/dan-cleary/is saying his cap hit was 2.5 million. So who the hell knows what happened.

So his $1,000,000 bonus for playing in 10 games last season did not count against lasts year's cap. Which means we already have $1,000,000 of cap hit against this years cap due to Cleary's bonus last year. They did the same thing with Alfie a couple of season ago.

How much did he get for his 10 game bonus last season? Because if I recall correctly, that bonus cap hit can* carry over to the next year's cap. So are we talking about having 575K + the million or so bonus in dead cap space??? Either way I think it's ridiculous. *I think it was either keep the bonus on that same years cap or move the bonus to next year's cap. I just don't know what happened this time around
