I'm going on record that these are the kind of jokes that are funny, not the "tank it - we like our team" jokes. Take note LGW jokesters!!

Well, we don't know how long Gus will be out. But, if it's a long time and Mrazek needs to start down the stretch and maybe a playoff game, then those games he played earlier in the season will prove to have been great NHL experience for him.

Sure maybe they do try and play differently when Petr is in. But that would imply that the Wings consciously go out when Howard is playing and think to themselves "f*** it, Howie is in net. Lets try and get one or two and then coast the rest of the game." (or something like that). I don't buy that. I think they go out and try to score as many as they can every night. I know they seem to play better when Petr is in net but I think it's just a product of Petr's style of play that helps the team offensively (and there are quotes from the players to back that up), not that they try to play differently. Maybe they do, but I'd guess it's more a 80-20 split in favor of his play just helping out. EDIT: and if the they choice is $8 or $11, then obvious go with the $11. But if the choice is $11 now or $8 that will eventually turn into $13, then I'd say go with the $8.

Cleary is getting paid 1.5 million to sit in the press box for the whole season. So they are maybe equally bad.

Gus struggling doesn't (or shouldn't) affect what people think about Howard's play. It's a non-sequitur.

I know . My problem wasn't that I don't think it's funny (I don't) but that it's just seems like trolling ("positive" trolling maybe, but trolling nonetheless). But whatever hahaha

I know that it's supposed to be a joke, but it's not funny anymore. I could see how it would have been useful maybe back in November/December to make a point, but the point has been made, the team is really good, and tbh the constant "tank it" in every thread is akin to people trolling more than anything else

Well I guess the intent of it is different. When I was saying they appear to play better when he isn't playing, it wasn't that they try to play differently, it's just something that happens as an unintended result. Whereas it sound like Yzerfan was saying it was a conscious decision to play differently

I really don't think the team goes out every night Howie is playing and says "f*** it, lets just slack off a bit defensively because our regular is in net"

It does always seem like the team plays differently (better?) when it's someone other that Howard in net.

To add to the non-goalie quota: GO TEAM!!

There were, but people get upset simply because they are made. Then, instead of having civil discussions about it (or simply just not going into them if you know you don't want to read about or discuss the topic), all hell breaks loose and they end up getting closed. It would be nice if there was a certain place to discuss it though.

He'll start in the playoffs this year, and yes he does have something to prove in the playoffs. But that means he has to actually go out and prove it, and he's running out of time to do that. How much longer is he going to get? I understand that scoring has been an issue for us in the playoffs, but isn't it like that with everybody? That time of year all the games tighten up. I mean sure, it's probably right to say "we can't expect him to hold the other team to 1 or 2 goals a game". I don't have a problem with that. But the same thing is probably being said by the other team about their goalie. And then they actually do it. Whether they do it because of great goaltending, better defense, or opponents in a scoring slump, can be debated. But in the end they end up allowing very few goals. I want to do well in the playoffs and compete for cups. If Howard (and the team) can do that while he's in. GREAT! I would love that! If he can't, and we have a player ready to step up to the challenge who gives us a better chance, then that player should play. And that goes for all positions.

There is also a radio stream on NHL.com that has both team's broadcast. Makes it feel old timey, or like you're out at camp or something.

Edit: Since it has been pointed out that I usually post about goalies lately, and that it somehow lessens my opinion because thats all I've been posting about, and even though I know that my non posting of my other hockey opinions here doesn't affect my goalie posts, here is my non-goalie post to satisfy the quota: GO TEAM!!
