If he's gonna end up hurt or benched, then why resign him at all?

What is the plan with Mrazek?

Well since Gus is back I'm not sure how this would work , but I wish there was a way to have him play maybe 20 NHL games this season.

Favorite Ken Holland Catchphrase / Quote

"We went all in" (or something to that effect) after this sequence of events A) originally drafted guy in the 4th round B) spent years developing him C) let him go on waivers with no return D) trade 1st round draft pick to acquire him back

Can Z and Pav do anything to protest? (not that they would)

Nobody thought that Alfie would want to leave the Sens. Nobody thought that Gretzky would waive his no trade clause and leave Edmonton. I'm not saying it would happen here, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I can see Zeterberg retire after 4 more seasons. His salary drops off from 7 million to 3.5 after 4 seasons and down to 1 million after that. He'll be 38 by then with a bad back. Dats is signed for three more seasons. He'd be 39 going into a new contract. So we have two, maybe three seasons (including next season) to make a run with these guys. Or to convince them that it's worth sticking around on the Wings to compete for a cup here rather than somewhere else.

Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV

He has some s***ty friends and family if the best present he ever got was a bagel cutter. Don't bagels come pre-cut anyway?? Just think of the the bagels and bagel accessories he can now buy with his 8 million.

Only you could argue that something costs $1.9 million and then claim that it was free in the same sentence

    A plea to Holland.

Well, from listening to Babs all year long it sound like the plan (or perhaps understanding) was they never going to score alot of goals in the first place. The plan was to rely on shutdown defense and great goaltending. Neither of those two things happened on a consistent basis this year. Its a balance thing. You can build a great offense (sacrificing defense/goaltending), or build great defense/goaltending (sacrificing your own scoring). You have to find a balance in between. In the salary cap era it's pretty difficult, though not impossible, to do both (although its easy to do neither as Ken Holland has showed us!) We didn't have a great offense the past few seasons, which would be acceptable if we had a great defense (including a great goalie). We don't. We haven't had a great defense (or a great goalie) lately either, which would be fine if we scored alot of goals. We don't. One of these areas has to be improved (I don't really even have a preference), because being average at both isn't working out now and its not going to work out in the future.

I understand that the kids didn't do much this postseason, but neither did the likes of Cleary (this was supposed to be his time to shine), Sammy, Tootoo, Bert (did contribute a single screen though). I do like the sound of having a select few capable vets, though I wouldn't get too carried away there either. Capable vets can quickly turn into useless vets of the aforementioned variety.

ECQF - Game 5 - Red Wings at Bruins - 3:00 PM EST

He didn't have the surgery until after the Olympics were over. If he had, then he would have gotten back at least at a week before he did (and we sure could have used him). I don't know why they waited so long for him to come back and get the surgery. I mean s***, I know jet fuel isn't cheap, but they could have just sent a plane to go get one of your biggest investments when it happened.

You guys may want to refer to the graph/article I posted in the http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/topic/76242-a-plea-to-holland/page-5 Thread (and the ongoing conversation). It's only going to get worse from here.

    A plea to Holland.

Right, but I think his point is that the Wings rarely have guys playing at age 22. So for the Wings purposes that age doesn't 'count'. And all the Wings players under 25 are in their first full season or are rookies. It's not perfect and doesn't take anything else into consideration (defensive responsibility, draft position, development, ect), but we've obviously been having trouble scoring and this indicates that its part of the reason why that is. I'm gonna quote what I just wrote on this topic to someone else on a different site since I was going to post similar sentiments here. Just keep in mind it was written in response to someone else, but my points are still the same.

    ECQF - Game 4 - Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (F/OT)

Truer words have not been spoken! It may come off like I don't do this, but I honestly try to incorporate every argument that comes up into my analysis, its just most times it doesn't end up changing my opinion. Which is fine, I don't have a problem with people keeping their original opinions, as long as they're truly taking everything into account!

To be clear I wasn't calling for Babs to be let go. I was just saying that when we do have a head coaching vacancy, whenever or however that ends up happening, it would be great if Laviolette was at least available to be a candidate.

    A plea to Holland.

http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/488763 Here's an article from Justin Bourne (don't know much about him, doesn't really matter anyway) who pretty much described what I was talking about above, but better and with graphs! Our biggest problem right now is scoring. This illustrates quite nicely why that is. And our only current players in their goal-scoring prime....

We're gonna turn into Toronto or Vancouver pretty soon if Holland doesn't cut thef****** bulls*** Pretending that he's not responsible for the poor personnel decisions made since that last cup is also pretty ignorant....

    ECQF - Game 4 - Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (F/OT)

I think Babs is an Excellent coach who sometimes often makes too many 'gut decisions'. I REALLY hope Laviolette is available to become the next Wings coach whenever that is, but would he really want to board a sinking ship with an aloof captain?
