If we would have missed the playoffs it would have been a big deal.
-
That's true I didn't think of that. Probably would have won more shootouts than that with the lineups (and goalies ) he had. Thanks for correcting me!
-
Let me get this straight, the guy just passed Jack Adams for most all time wins (with the wings), and yet he's never won the Jack Adams Trophy for Best Head Coach?? hmmm...

Sure, but like I said, it seems like it's happening just a few months too slowly. Signing guys like Cleary and Sammy to take the roster spots of Nyquist and Tatar (who would have been in GR had he not run out of waiver exemption), only to have them lose their spots to these guys in a couple of months anyway doesn't seem like the best plan. Why not just do all that at the beginning of the season? Edit: Statik I totally agree. I didn't mean they would get worse by staying down there or end up not materializing into anything. Was a bad word choice on my part. But like you said all these young guys weren't expected to do much up here. But here they are contributing to the Wings success this instead of playing for different team (GR). I'm not saying the system doesn't work (it obviously does), just that they should be more willing to give these guys a chance in the Big Leagues a little earlier and our team might benefit from it. They can't help the Wings if they aren't given a chance to play for the Wings.

Rotted might have been too strong of a word. 'Stagnate' would have been a better choice. (I'm gonna change it)

Compare the teams that Scotty had to the teams that Babs had and this is mighty impressive. Babs also did it in less time with less games played (lockout). Sure he makes some questionable decisions at times, but seeing as how he's been so dominant I'm willing to (mostly) overlook them. We've got a great coach who I'd like to see stay as long as he wants and be able to walk away on his own terms. The guys deserves that much at the very least. Edit: you beat me to it

Psssh....Guy shot it right into his pad j/k I'll give him credit for that, it was a nice save and at least he was in position to make it!! (though the guy DID shoot it right into his pad)

What was Howard doing behind the net there?? That's exactly what I'm talking about!

I'm gonna jump in on the "mngmnt leaving players in the minors". I agree that it takes time to develop these players. I think it's great that they can come up and mostly hold their own in a much tougher league. And for the most part, leaving them down so long has helped us quite a bit. But at some point these guys start stagnating in the AHL if left too long. Personally I think these 'kids' (I don't think you're a kid in hockey terms if your 22 or over) have been left down just a little bit too long. Management seems to be about 6-12 months behind schedule in getting these guys up here and contributing. Meaning these kids are ready about 6 months (more or less) before they get their chance. I realize its hard to make a 6 month adjustment, because at that point you've already signed a few over the hill vets to plug the hole. And by the time younger guy is ready, they have to wait another 6 months because their spot is not available at the moment. It's just a cycle that needs to be broken. Seriously if they just moved everything in this process up about 6 months I'd be content with that strategy.

Detroit says Weiss "Not Getting Better", likely done for year

To be fair to the guy who thought he was on drugs. That's a real possibility, If they gave him some after one of his injuries it can quickly spiral out of control. They are very addictive and being a professional athlete doesn't stop that. I know this is pure speculation and I don't want to contribute to rumors, but it wouldn't be out of the ordinary. Look what happened to Favre back in the day. Look what happened to Derek Boogaard. It's far from an isolated incident in sports (and in general). I saw an interview with Zetterberg after a game this season where he looked like he was out of it from painkillers. With what we know about his back this year that makes sense that he would take something and play. It could just have been adrenaline since the game had just ended, but he looked like he was all over the place. And if anybody knows what that looks or feels like its me, since I take painkillers occasionally for my own back problems. Perhaps there is some problem with Wiess and they're quietly trying to work it out (and if there is I'm more than willing to give him a pass because that is an issue bigger than hockey). Perhaps he really is just injured all the time. I don't know and as I said I honestly don't want to fuel the fire here with rumors, just giving my thoughts about it. -
I guess you missed the VERY NEXT LINE where I said EVERYBODY has some amount of responsibility
-
The are ONLY 2 types of goals that have nothing to due with Jimmy: 1.Somebody else is in net 2. empty net goals. Every other goal that gets scored, Jimmy has *some* amount of responsibility. He gets it. ALL of those things contributed. You can't say only 2 out of those 3 things contributed and purposely ignore the other part.

Yeah those D-zone face-offs never come back to haunt us, right? Edit: I know you can't eliminate every face-off, it has to be frozen some times (I get that). But that is just an example of why it should be a priority to limit them as much as possible.

If you think about it, it's just people trying to get away with wearing #9 in a Winged Wheel. The Hockey Gods have no patience for people exploiting loop holes -
LA Kings are always one of my favorites. They have Kopitar, Doughty, Quick (All sweet players to watch) Gretzky! Those old black and white Kings jerseys with "Gretzky - 99" are always awesome to see!
-
I didn't get to watch the game (listened on the radio). Can anybody comment on how Jonas looked in goal? How did everybody play in front of him?
-
So you're saying there's a chance!
-
Really???? A Last Minute Goal??? HA THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN!!!

Amazing Goose How Sweet The Sound That save the wretched Wingsssss

DISCLAIMER: **I fully realize that this is not exactly what just happened** BUT...That goal right off the face-off is exactly why I rag on Howard so much. His complete lack of confidence, especially in his puck playing ability (and his utter refusal to try and improve), leads to him CONSTANLY freezing playable pucks. This leads to more defensive zone face-offs and goals like the one you just saw. (then throw in his rebound control, weak goals, poor positioning, ect...) But mostly this, because it could EASILY be remedied with some practice, coaching, and just a bit of effort on his part.
-
Point taken, but he does have (or probably will have after the game) 14 more wins than Howie
-
Don't worry guys...This time of the year was why we signed Cleary. Com'on Babs throw him over the boards and let him do his thing!!
-
You still have to stop it if there is no whistle. Howard has a history of giving up on plays. EDIT: and obviously Kronwall can't give up on it either. Other goalies have to deal with deflections as well, it just that every once in a while it hits them and the stop is still made. Howard almost never has a deflected puck hit him. Positioning might help (as does luck, i won't deny that!)
