You said not to be stupid, but then you allow the refs to make calls based on the score and not on the merit of the penalty?

I know that......That's why I said they are fluky plays. I wasn't even referencing that specific play, just plays like that in general. Just because they can be fluky doesn't mean you shouldn't take precautions and minimize the risk. That was my point.

I realize that some of these players going into the boards like they have been is somewhat fluky.... But at some point they have to start doing their best to minimize that kind of thing. Like, "Hey, I'm skating towards the end boards with a guy right on my ass. Maybe I shouldn't bend over as far as I can trying to reach for the puck. Maybe I should prioritize standing up straight and just play the puck standing up."

I pick fights here all the time. I would just urge you that if you are going to pick a fight, KNOW who your audience is (wings fans) and ADJUST accordingly (don't be a ******* idiot, maybe emphasize that you have an outside opinion on the matter that people on the inside might not have considered)

Sometimes I do too....but sometimes I just really can't go on without ridiculing the ridiculous!

Haha me too. Whenever I say "someone here said...." it was usually only one or maybe a handful of people saying that. And its even less likely that it is the person that I'm responding to haha

You understand that an average goalie can sometimes make above average saves, right?? He lets in a lot of below average goals too. Hence we end up at him being.......AVERAGE!!!

So I'm guessing everybody whose been ragging on Alfie recently is going to come out and say that their criticism of his game since the Olympic break was unwarranted and uncalled for now that he scored a couple ???

    Maple Leafs 2 @ Red Wings 3

With how good he's been and everything you just mentioned, I just can't believe the Wings brass tried to stuff this kid in the minors for another year (which is probably where he would still be if it hadn't been for these ridiculous injuries). I understand the mindset of keeping prospects in the minors to an extent, but this might be taking it to the extreme and beginning to be more of a hindrance to the organization rather than a strong point. Then again, maybe that's why he's been so good up here...

I just got this mental picture of Babs shaving his ass.....

I agree. I wouldn't call for his job after a bad streak, just that he improve. Now if these bad streaks happen more frequently or last longer than whatever length is deemed acceptable, then I would start worrying about finding someone else. But again that works both ways. If he goes on a streak of playing well and winning games I wouldn't say that justifies his contract or future starter status until the bad streaks are less frequent and/or less disastrous. And none of that will improve my opinion of things like his puck handling and rebound control until those specific area's are actually improved. Just because he can stop the puck for us doesn't mean he can handle it any better once he has it!

Possibly. I might be one of them ha, but I wouldn't stop my criticism of the aspects of his game that need critiquing. I did try to make it as clear as I possibly could when I bumped the Howard thread that it wasn't because of a single game or instance or even a small sample of games. I was only looking at his rankings compared to everyone else for the whole season (and in March you should have a pretty good sample size to go off of!) If he plays well then I'll give him credit, if not then I'll criticize him. If he improves his game after being criticized, it doesn't mean that the criticism was undeserved at the time it was given. And of course vice versa If his play degrades after giving him props for playing well, it doesn't mean that he didn't deserve the praise at the time.

And yet someone on this board was trying to argue the other day that Nyquist is a career 3rd liner

Well could you give them more than 60 NHL games to adjust to the higher standards of the league? Up until this season they were playing against AHL level competition so it only makes sense that they are not used to covering NHL caliber forwards. They won't ever pass that threshold if you don't let them get experience against top line guys. Sure they might make a mistake here and there along the way, but if you don't make mistakes then you don't know what you have to improve about your game.

Are you really relegating those two to the 3rd line for the rest of their careers already?? They've played one season with the Wings. They will improve their game. Datsyuk was a 3rd line player his first year in the league, would you really have left him on the 3rd line as he got more comfortable in the league and improved his game?

Or if you said "the hair" really quickly it sounds like Their or They're. They all mean the same thing anyway but I would want facts to get in the way of ignorance. What the hell right?

A great scrap ends in....A high five and a hug?

I'm not sure where I stand on it either, that's why I wanted more information about that position. I guess a fight like that would be more exciting, but not really "more fun" as he put it. If you have one fight over bad blood and one fight to entertain the fans, I would suspect that the one for the fans would be more fun, as it's whole purpose was to entertain and make the game memorable, enjoyable, and yes more fun for the fans. I still don't really understand why showing some respect afterwards (again like they all do after every playoff series) somehow reduces the fight (or games) to "meaningless". I understand it could make you think its theatrical, but having all the players shake hands and take a curtain call could be considered making it look theatrical as well. Should we get rid of the handshakes, lest the playoffs look like a bunch of actors just playing their scripted part in order to get the league's chosen champion to the Cup? And finally yes you're right it is just people's opinions. But there is a point in arguing/discussing it. People's opinions can change after hearing arguments from both positions (and as I said I'm not even sure where I stand on the matter). P.S. and thanks to GMR for finally giving me some actual information

Yeah we could have been Top 3, but they just refuse to make any kind of adjustments in a timely manner. Sure injuries are part of it, but they've made some really poor decisions that have cost us players that produce over players that don't, limited ice time for people who produce over people that don't, and a stubbornness that I can't figure out.

That's exactly the problem. When I've been ragging on him it's not because he doesn't do "anything" well, its that he just flat out refuses to even acknowledge that there are.... I just realized I was about to type almost word for word what you just said. WELL SAID!!!

OK. Well I'll ask you the question then too. Why do you think showing respect after a hard fought battle is "idiotic & ridiculous"? i.e. Handshakes after Playoff rounds or occasionally after fights (like when both guys are tired and finally say to each other "OK, we both got our punches in and I'm done. Lets let the linesmen in here and end this") To me those are both similar situation and if you don't think so then by all means explain to me why you don't think they are comparable.
