I can't help but wonder if this is a one-year move and Hudler will return next year when Malts or one of the other older guys retires. Play outside for a year, then come back when there is the money available.

If you knew no one else had seen him, why would you spend a high pick on him? If Detroit had never seen Z, or Holmstrom, or Ericsson, they would likely have not been drafted. Why spend a first or second round pick when a seventh is enough?

This helps your cap scenario how, exactly? Your cost for Larsson isn't going to be any lower than Howard, plus the fact that Larsson hasn't even played one second in the AHL, let alone the NHL.
