It may be more of a depth move. I'd question the appropriateness of that move, though. Schneids is experienced and a decent offensive talent for a D, but he's 39. Exactly how long will he still be playing? I'd offer a contract for this year and the playoffs only, then reevaluate.

I'll take the depth over the single star. One injury kills a lot more offense if you have Hossa, than if you have Huds/Mule. The way Huds is developing, though... the lad could be scary good in a few years.

Leino really impressed me. If he can get the speed up a little bit, he could be every inch a top-6 forward for Detroit for a long time. His hockey sense is pretty darn good for being a rookie, and he was playing with more fire than half the team. Keeper. Abdelkader looked a hair off, but considering how little experience he got last year, and how good he looked then, he gets a pass. I'd give Leino a A/A- and Abdelkader a B-.

Here's to hoping it wasn't a complete cut. Tendons tend to retract when cut, so what they would have done is start at the ankle, and keep slicing upwards until they found the other end.

I like the way you think. Let Hossa go, lock up the young guys who have serious potential, start shoring up the D in preparation for when Lids retires.

Agreed. That said, Conks has to be the starting goalie for a while. If I didn't know better, I would lay money on Ozzie having some kind of injury- he's blowing saves that were second nature to him last year. Something is different between his ears. When his confidence is there, there's no one else I want between the pipes. Right now his confidence is shot, and it shows in his play. There's no way to send him to the AHL for a while, is there? I thought he'd have to clear waivers, which he would in all likelihood not do. It would almost be worth putting him on IR for 10 games, and bringing up Larsson or Howard and see how they do.
