That's on the goalie, the refs only check to see if the goalies are ready to go at the start of periods, otherwise you gotta be ready to go like everyone else unless you've talked to ref about fixing something.

They are playing tonight at 4 pacific on sportsnet for those of you living in Canada. Mantha should be featured heavily, possibly playing with Drouin. Really excited to see what Mantha can do, haven't had a chance to watch him play yet.

He reminds me of Franzen in a good way. His work rate could be a little higher, but he's not as big a floater as I imagined based on the criticisms about him at the draft.(could be the fact that it's a big game) Good passer and not afraid to pull the trigger. Just scored a nice goal picking the puck up in his feet and making a deke to his backhand.

I don't think this play was intentional, but kassian has been doing stupid things he whole career. He had a 20 game suspension in junior and had a brutal hit that got him a couple in the wjc, plus his 8 game suspension this year for the stupid stick thing on gagner. Also had an assault charge in junior.

Curious to see Almquist, kinda wish it was Ouellet tho. He played great that first game and if given an extended period of time i think he could steal lashoffs spot.

Ouellet was impressive tonight. Very calm with the puck, and made some great stretch passes. Came out of nowhere for me at the world juniors last year but have been excited about him since then.

I say 3 games, like it or not Kronwall turned pretty late and he acknowledged this himself but McCleod still has to be responsible for hitting players in the numbers. As far as I know he hasn't been suspended before so I wouldn't expect the book to be thrown at him.

I don't think he understands the rule. If icing is waved off no one is required to touch the puck first. It's the same thing as a dump in.

Except that it's now just a race to an imaginary line between the defensive zone face-off dots. If the offensive player wins the race, he does not have to touch the puck first. It just becomes a routine dump in. He can brace him self, hold off till the defender goes in, whatever he wants. Theres no more poking their sticks in each others feet just to touch the puck first. I didn't see any problem with it in the first game, I'm sure through out the year there's going to be some bad calls like any other thing in hockey including the original icing rule, but it's much safer this way.

I think I will be watching that game. Being a BC resident I wanna see how Schnieder does against Crosby. I'll hopefully be watching the nucks lose to San Jose after as well.

To me this is a no brainer, the players now have a chance to brace for impact instead of racing full speed into the boards and trying to out fence the other guys stick.

This move baffles me from the Panthers perspective. I don;t think they are a playoff team this year, and it would have been a perfect year for Markstrom to finally take on the number 1 role and they go and sign Thomas. Instead of finishing at the bottom and having a chance at a top pic next year they'll probably finish in the group that just misses the playoffs because they signed a guy who will be 40 by the end of the year to a one year deal.

I'm so excited for this. It's going to be really cool to get some access that's not usually possible.

I think he should be suspended, like snepts said there's just about no way that hit doesn't result in him going head first into the boards. Pretty careless imho.
