I'd take Hossa for this team and Shanny for the mid 90s-2002 Wings. The teams were/are built differently, and each of those players fits better into those respective teams (though either of them could fit in to some degree to the skills in their prime)

Lilja was unnoticeable.. which for him, is a GOOD thing. It probably means he blocked a fair share of shots and didn't make any horrible gaffs. McCarty didn't do anything spectacular, but he did generate a couple offensive chances, and made some crucial clears and neutral zone checks. I wasn't displeased with his performance. Lebda has been stinky, though. I'd like to see Babs try Lilja/Meech.. give Lebda some motivation to earn his spot.

I want to call that game exciting, I really do, but I just can't.. it was frustrating. I don't debate the calls on the Wings, as they were all technically penalties.. I just debate the lack of calls going the other direction when there were some very blatant ones. That said, I'll take 2 points and I'm glad the Wings were able to overcome adversity -- that's always a good sign (despite the sloppy play in the defensive zone so far this year).

It's not the 07-08 playoffs. He still sucks. I'm not generally one to jump on the ref hate bandwagon, but this guy consistently drives me nuts. Every time the Wings have a really wonky game with lots of weak calls and a bunch of 5 on 3s to kill, O'Hitleran seems to be involved. He's noticeable enough to the point where, after seeing a part of the game, my old man and I can call it as an O'Halloran officiated game.. and never get it wrong. Seriously, I respect the hard work most officials do, but this guy is just way too noticeable in every game he officiates (especially with certain teams involved) -- and that's what a good official shouldn't be. Edit: I suppose I should say this isn't based just on tonight's game (which I'm quite happy with.. Atlanta worked hard for their goals and there was a Wings gaffe on more than one of them). I've been watching other games around the league this year and I've noticed this wanker in other games as well.

I support this decision. He gets big minutes playing in GR mixed in with stints of NHL time during injuries. Couldn't ask for a more balanced development.

I was hoping for the shootout as well, but that was a hell of a way to finish it. I'd give a little post-game analysis, but I've had a double and while I can still type, alcohol shoots my analytical skills to hell. Really exciting game, though. Even though the Pens are missing Whitney and Gonchar, I'd say they have a good future in Goli and what not.

Been watching this one; figured a good rivalry game with 2 big teams in the east was as good a way to spend my evening as any. The Godard-Cote fight was a great one, some good fist-slinging there. Couple bang-bang goals for Pitts in the bottom half of the 2nd, and then Philly answers with a quick 2 of their own right at the end of the 2nd. Been exciting action all game with plenty of north-south movement and solid forechecking. Gonna be one hell of a 3rd.
