I keep trying to do an analysis of this series, but I can't find any area where the Pens one-up the Wings, so it just ends up Wings > Pens.. not much of an analysis. Then again, I'm seeing the same sort of thing from pro writers, so maybe it's the reality of things. The big question marks: Fleury's goaltending. Will he continue to be fluky, or will he get hot during this series? Pens defense: Has been great at some points and abysmal at others. Symptomatic of their current aggressive, run and gun version of puck possession? Crosby and Malkin: Will both handle the pressure? How well will the Wings contain them this year? Special teams: How well will the PP and PKs of the two teams match up? On the whole, Detroit SHOULD be able to run away with this series more than they did last year. Are the Pens really any better off this year, or is it going to be a mismatch like last year? 'Course, there's still Chicago to go.

My guess is that the contracts they got are bigger than they + their agent expect they could get in free agency, plus the chance to settle in back home at the twilight of their careers. They both still could easily hold roster spots in the NHL (and are both still rather useful, really).

Honestly, after seeing tonights game, I'm not too concerned for the Wings: Datsyuk out Complete jobbing by the refs in the 1st Kronwall out most of the game O'Halloran in a Wings Conference Final game Given all that, I thought they did a great job to come back from the brutal reffing in the 1st and bring it to OT. They looked pretty tired by the end of the 3rd, but if we can come back from that sort of adversity to bring it to OT.. As another note, if Scott Stevens were dead, he'd be rolling in his grave. Anyhow, let's hear some appreciation for the Wings tonight. They played with passion and didn't let up on their physical play even after the BS (in fact, it seemed to increase).

Well, if nothing else, only about 10 minutes of even strength play so far and only 2 goals against. At least our PK is looking good.
