Not sure I can trust the journalistic quality of a publication hiring writers that confuse that term. People on message boards are one things. Paid writers are another matter.
-
Of course not. The commish's primary role is a legal one. However, public presentation and such tend to be classes in law school. Certainly he took them, and certainly, given his position, he could make an effort to work on his presentation. Alternatively, someone can be appointed as the commish's PR guy. It's understandable he's a busy dude and that speaking isn't his strong point. Not the best excuse for him to get up and act like an ass with no seeming effort to appeal to the fans. Funny how much you can get someone to agree with your stance if you present it nicely.
-
Eh, the guy is good at running stuff from a business/law perspective and the owners are very pleased with the job he's done. I won't bother knocking his job if his employers are happy with his work. However, towards fans, he's a condescending son of a ***** and he deserves to get treated just like he treats them with his awful personality. A shame it has to happen during the cup presentation; too bad he rarely shows his face elsewhere. But for good reason. He's just got no charisma at all.

Eh, well, I do think weight relevant to height can be important to an extent. Good for a guy to have NHL bulk; it's great to see Pavel's play ever since he's breached the 190 mark, imo. Not only does he still have his smart/skilled game, but he can protect the puck better than ever and even throw his weight around occasionally. Height.. well, overall size has its uses. But not every guy on the team has to be a big burly dude. Couple guys on the back end to block shots/clear the crease, a handful of bangers up front to make things difficult in front of the net. Detroit won with a tiny team, Boston won with a large one... it's all about proper roles, I guess.
-
And only a spoiled little f*** on a message board would send off players who have actually contributed to cup wins by this franchise (and been kind and gracious human beings all the while) in such a manner. Time for them to move on? Yea, probably. Time for you to gtfo? Be my guest.

It was very much at least partly directed at you, yes. The conclusion of the OP (further discussed in posts beyond) was that, without the presence of Datsyuk and Zetterberg on the team, Flip might show up in the top 5 in voting once or twice and that there might be an outside chance of him hitting in the top 3 once later in his career (under the same circumstances), but such is unlikely due to a very non-flashy style of play. Having either not adequately read or not comprehended the material, you then go on to say (and further elaborate in the quoted post above) that he probably won't get top 3 in the voting, particularly taking into account the two amazing forwards on his team. Given that not only was this already adequately discussed but that those details and a subsequent scenario were specifically discussed with the OP, and that point 1. ruled out any such thing happening, I'm pretty sure I agree... and, seeing as your post seems to address the topic of the OP as if you disagree with the OP (even though your post comes to the same conclusion to the OP), I'm fairly certain you either didn't read it sufficiently or completely misunderstood it. However, thanks for at least trying to add to an intelligent discussion, something another poster on this page obviously and utterly failed at.

ITT: People who post on the 2nd page don't read the OP. Details at 7.

TIM THOMAS!
-
Believable that Helm could win it within a handful of years, his game is much more exciting.
-
Luongo is playing great for the Bs tonight, Conn Smythe imo.
-
Helm has wheels, is great on the PK and a solid checker, but he's still got a ways to go to match Flip on positioning and overall defensive poise, particularly at ES. Arguably the best aspect of Flip's game aside from his skating.
-
Well, we know what you believe! Seriously though, I'd be ecstatic if you turned out to be right.
-
He was .5 PPG 3 years ago and has been over .5 PPG since. Because, you know... players develop. But actually, you know what? You're right. Datsyuk isn't a PPG center like most people believe either; he's under a PPG in his career because he had lower scoring youngster years. I like your way of doing things better... you know, the way in which you analyze a player's current level of play by including stats from 4+ years ago into the grand scheme of things.
-
If Dats and Z are gone and Flip still has his legs at, say, 33-34, I could maybe see him getting a veteran nod and ending up somewhere in top 3 in votes. Outside chance, but could happen. Definitely not with Dats and Z around, though.

Unfortunately, we don't really know how far down he's willing to go. After RNH, Larsson, Couturier, and RNH, the next 5 picks are pretty much a toss-up, value-wise, of the same 5 guys. So maybe he's just willing to trade down as far as #8 or 9. Or maybe he's eyeing someone expected to fall in the 10-15 range. For the sake of discussion, the Wings attaining #5 would probably take a good young non-Hudler roster player, our 1st, and one of our top.. eh, lets say top 5-7 prospects (or a pick in place of the roster player... 2nd, maybe a 3rd as well depending on the prospect). 5-7 prospect means one of: Smith Tatar Nyquist Pulkinnen Jarnkrok Sheahan Mursak

Actually he's right, I get all my ideas from line threads.
-
This is stunning news. I've never read it before and have never seen anything remotely similar on the first page of general discussion on LGW.
-
Contrary to what you seem to think, the problem is not really your ideas or content. By and large there's little different from what the majority of people here agree/disagree with. It has more to do with the fact that you create thread after thread of things that are of a similar vein, thread-wise, to numerous other threads that are already out there (for example, why couldn't this go in the off season changes thread?). It's as if you don't want to be seen as inanely repetitive, so you don't post similar things over and over in the same thread. Instead, you... well, I'll let you figure the rest of that out. Me, I don't really care. I find it somewhat amusing in a sideshow sort of way. Also, the culture here tends to be full of sarcasm and cynicism. Happiness and togetherness is not enforced here. LGW definitely isn't a place to come to get a pat on the back... on the other hand, if you want to discuss and particularly debate hockey, it's a great place. We love our arguments here. Do people take it over the line? Absolutely. But it tends to be the same people over and over, and veteran posters generally know who they are and to begin ignoring them immediately.

If Babs could just get him to shoot more he could be a 15-20g/30-35a sort of guy consistently. He's got a solid wrister... he'd both get more goals and generate more scoring chances via rebounds/scrambles. Biggest hole is in his game right now, imo.. shoots way too little for his ice time. Even Datsyuk shoots nearly double the amount Flip does with only a minute or two more ice time a game. I'd be thrilled if Flip was putting up about 150-175 shots on goal a season.

Fortunately, s*** is one of those things you don't really worry too much about trying to find if you lose it. Unless you're one of those people where things you lose turn up in the damndest places later... then you really don't wanna lose your s***. "Oh, here it is, turns out it was in my pocket the whole time!"

Yep, largely it's 'visual things' that separate the different groups. Z is a B and not an A because of, as you put it, Pavel ******* Datsyuk and his much flashier style. Staal is an A and not a B because he's a good ol' Canadian boy with that good ol' Canadian style that good ol' Canadians just love. Kesler is an A because of the market he plays in and a very in-your-face brand of hockey. Most of the guys in C just don't have enough highlight-power to stick out. M. Richards got a lot of showing as an A because of his huge amount of shootout goals combined with a similar style to 2 of the other guys in group A, but has since dropped down to B because of a choking team and lack of said shorthanded goals. Mikko Koivu is kinda the oddity here... everyone wants to love him but noone wants to vote for him. He's the guy that shows up first on every 'who should get Selke consideration but doesn't' lists.
-
Personally, I look at the Selke group something like this: Group A: 'The perennial challengers' (guys who are considered front-runners every year) Datsyuk J. Staal Kesler Group B: 'The runners-up' (Guys likely to be top 3 or be talked about a lot every year) Zetterberg M. Richards M. Koivu Group C: 'The also rans' (Guys who could or should get recognition, might show up in top 5 a few times) Filppula Bolland Nielsen Malhotra Legwand Fisher (pre-marriage) Probably a couple others in each of group B and C, but I feel they serve as good examples.
-
You do realize this is likely a 'planned' part of the program to serve as a counterpoint to Mickey, yes?
-
There's this Finnish guy, I hear he has great skating and really good defense for a 2nd line C. Puts up a solid PPG. All of that and I hear he can be had for $3m/yr. Wish I could remember his name... I'd say very badly timed penalties putting our equally bad PK on display is what cost us that series.
