Tomas Kaberle set to waive no-trade clause

Just to chip in something related to that West vs East thing here, not really contributing to that argument, just pointing out something I suddenly noticed: Detroit had to play against Tootoo, then like half the Avs roster, then Ott in the playoffs last year. Epic cheapshot potential.

Filppula has the most Even Strength points after Z, D, Hossa

I'm going to suppose that by the reasoning of some here, since Flip is only 7th in ES points/minute, then he should be the 7th most played forward at ES, regardless of any of his other attributes. Perhaps he's 3rd in ES time and 4th in ES points because, even though he's only 7th in ES points/minute, he produces more reliably and consistently at ES with larger amounts of ice time than those other players.. a state which furthermore allows those players who produce more with smaller amounts of ice time, particularly during the power play, to play within those sorts of situations. That's not to mention the defensive aspects in which Flip excels over most of those same players. And maybe he doesn't get a lot of PP time because we have an absolutely offensively loaded top 9 forwards to draw a regular 6 PPers out of, and it's more valuable to save his ice time for ES and the PK because he's one of the most consistent and reliable producers in both of those situations that this team has. But using a logical analysis shouldn't be allowed here, amiright?

Tomas Kaberle set to waive no-trade clause

That's a plausible list, excepting maybe Vancouver (but maybe he likes it there?) Motown and Chitown are both eastern teams stuck in the wrong conference.

    Penguins fire Michel Therrien

I think the Pens org just obstructed his contract.

    Penguins fire Michel Therrien

Yep. I still maintain that their run to the SCF was the result of riding hot on two of the top 10 players in the league, and a hot goaltender. When they all ran out of steam and/or got shut down by the Detroit system, and Therrien failed to adapt coaching wise and their lack of depth became apparent, they got hammered.

    Penguins fire Michel Therrien

Pardon my language, but about ******* time. imo, Therrien was a bigger problem than Gonch + Whitney being out. I think anyone who paid attention to the coaching in the SCF can attest to that.

    Retire #'s 18,25,33,96

No to putting them in the rafters, but a grindline statue or something would rock.

    An Odd Feeling

I've been wondering if I'm the only person here who does not hate Kopecky. I propose that his whipping boy situation this year is inescapable: Sammy is playing well on a small contract. Lilja is playing well on a small contract. Lebda has been playing better, and doesn't play half the time. Cheli is too old and doesn't play enough to be a real whipping boy. Everyone seems to like Meech. Datsyuk rocks. Zetterberg rocks. Hossa rocks. Lidstrom rocks. Raffi has high point totals. Kronwall has good point totals and has been better defensively lately. Stuart is on IR. Homer is injured, and is too likable when he isn't. Hudler has been a surprise. Franzen is solid. Flip is one of our top ES point producers. Cleary PKs well. Helm has played a handful of games. Leino has played a handful of games and kicked ass. Osgood always gets flak regardless of circumstance and is thus exempt. Conklin has done well. Draper is a vet and still does faceoffs well. Maltby gets a lot of leeway for being a vet and playing on the PK. Kopecky plays on the 4th line with the 2 least offensively talented people on the team and thus doesn't put up numbers: Target sighted! I actually usually like what I see from this guy (given his role) when he plays. He works hard. He has an acceptable skill set. I think we'd see him on the 3rd line more (And thus putting up better numbers), but we have a very desirable problem: too much talent in the upper echelons. He's thus doing well at filling his current role: thump and bang. In case noone noticed, the 4th line doesn't have crappy +/- because of terrible defense.. it's because their offensive production is so low it's a ******* celebration when Draper scores anything other than an EN.

    More Mystifying Officiating

Fraser blows one, this time. Basically, there's some intense play going on. Jason Smith has Kaleta lined up in front of the benches, and when he sees Kaleta's numbers, he holds off on the hit, basically holding Kaleta up so Kaleta's head doesn't get pounded into the boards or tossed into the bench dangerously. He then helps Kaleta get steady and helps him up, Kaleta drops the gloves, and Smith goes with him and they get in a couple punches before getting broken up. Smith is assessed with a triple minor (all roughing). Additionally, he's given a 10 minute game misconduct. Link http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl-games-on-demand/se...res/#clip139111 (Go about 23 minutes in and you'll see the play develop) What the hell was Fraser thinking here? Even Buffalo fans seem to be pretty puzzled by this one.

2/12 GDT: Wild 2 at Red Wings 4

So my stream cuts out for a couple minutes; I come back and the Wings have a frigging first line in the box. What happened?

Oh yea, I definitely agree with the 2 from behind. But the 2 for roughing? Kaleta was the one that dropped the gloves first and didn't get a roughing minor (or anything, for that matter) And the 3rd minor is completely ????

    Hossa and the Wings

As an aside, if he's seeking money between Dats and Z, I imagine he can probably be talked down to the same cap hit as Z if it's longer than, say, 7 years. If it's a deal around 7 years in length, I can see around 6.45.

    Hossa and the Wings

I need some help here. This is a toughie. If the Wings manage to pull off long term, I can't really decide what will thrill me more: 1. Having Hossa long term at a bargain price. 2. Seeing the absolute amazement/disgust other fanbases will have, particularly the Burgh.

    More Mystifying Officiating

I remember reading on hfboards that at the end, Buffalo had more powerplays in that game since any game since one in the early 90s. And that they were epicly failing on capitalizing on any of them. Even some of the Buff fans seemed to think that the refs were trying to give the Slugs a shot at that game.

    Top 3 All Time Antagonists

Nah, while I certainly don't like Magoo, he's not biased.. just incompetent. At least I know his GI no goal arm shaking could potentially be at any target. When O'Halloran is around, however...

    Check out Dats.

It's "I trust mine eye to Dr. Rahmani" run backwards. Well, that's all I've got.

    Top 3 All Time Antagonists

Players: Tootoo Ott Entire Anaheim roster (I'd put Lemieux, but atleast that wanker had some use besides cheapshots) Just for kicks, Non-players: Burke O'Halloran Tampa Bay owners

Yea, damn that smarmy bastard for having a career .920 SV% in the playoffs for the Wings.

    An Odd Feeling

I'm sorta surprised there isn't, actually. Big collisions usually make it onto youtube. Then again, it's the Preds.. who cares?

    An Odd Feeling

Actuallly, he was shoved as he was starting to glide to Pepperoni's left. As he was shifting his balance, he got shoved, which is why he lost it so easy... and since it was before his turn really started it was doomed to collide. Had he not been shoved he goes just wide of the net. Thought that was pretty easy to see on the replay.

    An Odd Feeling

Only if their d-men cooperate and push him. If not, he probably just flies by, doesn't get a shot off and slams into the boards (insert more stereotypical LGW views of Kopecky)

    An Odd Feeling

Fact is, Datsyuk is a pretty spectacular hitter, when he does it. Kopecky hits more often with much less minutes, and that's what he's paid to do. Each one doesn't have to topple a skyscraper.
