Per McKenzie, it appears the entire deal needs NHLPA approval (I don't see why they wouldn't approve) and the 3rd round and beyond playoff system is not set in stone, something the GM's will determine. My link

If it was so difficult, how come it only took an hour to pass? Also wondering who the 4 teams out of the 30 who opposed the realignment? I'm gonna come out and say it that I am young and don't have recollection of the different playoff system, only have read about it. Just appears to be many pros and cons. Like most, resistant to change, but going to wait a few years (and savor this year's playoffs) before I knock it. However, the idea of a Red Wings - Avalanche or Lightning - Hurricanes Cup Final just doesn't sound right to me.
