I really hate how Crosby gets in a fight and it's suddenly big news on ESPN and the first two highlighted stories on NHL.com. Why is it such a big deal? Didn't do much, Pens lost 5-2. I understand he is a posterboy, but it's just gets terribly annoying that it's suddenly the only story worth talking about. Sid the Kid is not Brendan Morrow or Jarome Iginla. He is a goal scorer. He needs to get off his high horse. I think Sidney Crosby is an unbelievable hockey player. I think his attitude and respect for the game and his opponents needs to change. Not because of incidents like this, but because of things like cheap shots (cross checks, crotch shots), refusing to shake hands after the playoffs, etc.

Nice win boys. Let's keep it up in Edmunton tomorrow.

I don't understand why the NHL cannot rule on this after the fact the same way they rule after the fact on hits that do not get called but are then suspension worthy. Since this was such a terrible call, can't the league at least rule that it was a bad call and will correct it in the future?

Avs are still a decent young squad. But yes, nothing will compare to the games of '96-'98. Nordiques jerseys would be sick though.

That goal from Dowell scored last night for the Hawks though was pretty sick, I have to admit. If they can have continued production from their new role players, they can still be pretty good.

I respect Richard and what he did for our game. He has a point, but I think hockey has evolved over time. The game has become faster and more equipment has been needed than before because of it. I'm not talking about composite sticks and goalie equipment, but that might be part of it too. The game has always been full of bullies, as is evidence in the beginning of hockey. So yes, he's right that hockey may have been much more of a gentleman's game back in the day, but with the evolution of the game and the player that plays it, there are many aspects of our physical game that have just been amplified over the years and now you do get checks from behind, blindside hits. But I hate this hits as much as anyone else and I respect the NHL for trying to do away with them. But never will I take away the integrity of the physicality of our game and the player that plays it. Hockey is the best sport on earth for a reason. Players get clobbered, fighting, the speed. This isn't soccer. That's what makes hockey hockey. Just my opinion though.

Couldn't have said it better. Two weeks in a row now. How is a team supposed to get in a groove early in the season? And yes, the rest would count a lot more later in the year. Lame. Go Wings anyway, let's get the W boys.
