It's a nice thought but I don't think Hossa will be willing to stay for even cheaper than Z. I mean... Hank was drafted by the Wings organization and he's part of the Red Wings family in a way. He even said it before that he would like to play in detroit for the rest of his career. Hossa's case is a bit different. He decided to sign with us because we were his number 1 choice for a team that could possibly win the cup this season. He stated that he likes being a Red Wing and the style of hockey they play... but I don't think that he'd be willing to sign even a 5 year contract at that amount when he could be making more elsewhere. He may or may not stay, I think it depends on how well our playoff run will be this year. If we have an early round exit, I think the chances of having him re-sign would be that much slimmer.

Leino has that touch for scoring that I don't think Helm really has as much of, but then again we'd have to see Leino play a couple more games. I heard that he has had his streaky moments in the AHL but I think from what I've seen I can already say that I would rather have him in the regular lineup instead of Kopecky. I'm just glad Leino got a chance to see some ice time this season. I think if it weren't for that, his chances of going to play in Sweden next season would be higher. He did not get a hat trick like Brunnstrom but I think he did more than enough to show that he's capable of being a regular on the roster. Leino was not able to make up for the absence of Z but he sure as hell kept me on the edge of my seat. I hope we re-sign him next season and have a regular spot for him

This is great, I've been hoping to see Leino in an actual season game. I still remember that preseason game, I forget against who but I think we lost that one, we had all of our top guns out there and nobody could get one in. Sure we can say Hossa was still adjusting to the team and they were taking it easy but the fact is nothing was going in for us. Then Leino scored. I remember him having the only goal of the game. Regardless of the loss, he's a player that has shown that he can get something started when nobody else can. He just needs to prove it by showing it in a season game. I really hope he plays great when he's given the chance to shine. As for Downey I'm glad we're going to have a legit enforcer at least for a couple games this season. It may be just what the rest of the guys need for that extra push. I can't wait for the game later today

This is GREAT news!! I can really see him being our future captain one day I really got attached to Hossa but I think it'd be easier for me to him playing in another uniform next season than Z. Anyways the fact that Z is taking a 1 mil cut is awesome and may give us a chance to keep Hossa as well. I'm sure Z agreed to this contract, knowing the situation we're in right now with the salary cap. He just ranked himself that much higher in my book of classy people.
