WCF GAME 1 GDT: Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 5
Coolio Mendez replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Good to see the Wings still sleeping. -
No doubt the award so far belongs to Crosby. Close second would have been Ovechkin, but with him out no one near Crosby as of yet.

That's not the point, shooting is one thing, KNOWING when to shoot is another!

Alex Ovechin has 35 shots and ONE goal! If you WATCH the games then you would see what I have seen. The Caps are a bunch of wimps. Take 1,000 shots and Lundqvist without bodies in front of the net and you won't score on any. You need players going hard to the net and setting screens and paying the price! Viktor Kozlov is a huge WIMP. Brashear is willing to pay the price but too slow to get there. Ovechkin gets the puck AND SHOOTS everytime....goalies are onto his selfishness (Luongo was quoted recently as saying he loved to face him because he always knows what he is going to do).....PASS the puck or SLOW IT down and wait for some traffic in front of Henrik....tips, deflections, shots he can't see.....good things will happen BUT Ovechkin is an MVP alright.......the guy has BRUTAL hockey sense. Case in point.....35 shots and is it any wonder that the ONLY game they WIN is the one where he had two ASSISTS and only 5 shots? They will never win anything unless he starts reading the ice better and stops being so SELFISH. Real team guy. Now I see why 29 out of the 30 NHL GMs prefer Crosby to Ovechkin.

"Cindy", "whiner"......got anything new?

Ovechkins team gets eliminated....does this end the Crosby/Ovechkin debate?

Conjoined triplet midgets...make a great goalie, 3 blockers, 3 glovehands! And no I'm sorry you do NOT know me.....if you did you would know it was a joke.
-
BTW, why stop there? Should hermaphrodites be allowed to play in the NHL? Transsexuals? Conjoined twins? Midgets? Conjoined midgets? Conjoined midget hermaphrodites? What if they were receiving the same training as current NHLers? Seriously. Don't selectively discriminate, People!

Whats stopping women from being in the NHL? As far as I know, they are allowed but it is unrealistic. You cannot compare women playing against women and somehow square that performance and assume they'll be equal against men. Their bodies are different; men have more muscle mass and fast-twitch muscle fibres than women (this isn't a sexist rant; it's biology). There's nothing forbidding women to play in the NHL. But all clubs want to win and for that, they all try to put together the best possible team. As long as hockey been around for there has yet to be a female player with the right skills. With that being said...I just don't see a reasonable path for a woman to play forward or defense in the NHL. You play the greatest game in the world, which makes you ten bells better by my book than someone that plays (that game with the round ball of which I do not speak).

25 years ago there was a guy on the Oilers who was widely considered a defensive liability (Mike Bossy called him a pylon) but he would score at will.............and he could skate like the wind. Paul Coffey won two consecutive Norris trophies..............simply by threatening Bobby Orr's records (and coming within 2 goals of becoming the first defenceman to score 50). Both years that he won...........he led all NHL defensemen in giveaways. Randy Carlyle won a Norris trophy by leading all NHL D-men in points and giveaways AND was a -16. Green just scored his 30th goals giving him 30 goals, 70 points and a plus 24 rating in 63 games played this season. I think he wins it.

Is there another Mickey Redmond I don't know about? The one I listen to has something to say about almost every call. The Sharks announcers are known for having the best, and I do enjoy listening to them.

Crosby's ranked 2nd by Central Scouting (behind Iginla) and Ovechkin is ranked 5th. In the end it all comes down to personal preferences, and 29 of the 30 NHL GMs prefer Crosby to Ovechkin (and that 29 includes George McPhee). I happen to agree. Crosby merchandise outsells Ovechkin merchandise. In games between the two, Crosby is outscoring Ovechkin 23 points to 15 Crosby's career ppg is 1.38, Ovechkin's is 1.27 Trust me when I say this, Crosby is the better definsive player than Ovechkin. So I fail to see where Ovechkin is better than Crosby in any area of the game. Crosby even had more votes for the all-star game from DC area IP addresses than Ovechkin.

.........but Ovechkin is a more all around player because he hits LOL. Several of Ovechkin's hits result in giveaways. Hitting is one thing, knowing when to hit is another. Ovechkin leads the league in giveaways (for the second year) He is still a lousy skater in traffic, and he is considered by NHL defencemen as easy to strip the puck from (see giveaways). He is far from a complete player as he is considered very selfish, and doesn't have a good read on the ice. Ovechkin leads the league in shots, and his own GM said that Ovechkin's inability to see other players on the ice has cost the Capitals at least 3 games this year. Most complete player in the world? Good one.

Whats funny? Thornton is highly regarded as the leagues best setup man by many hockey experts. I tend to agree. Recommend you to watch more hockey other than Wings hockey.

Sid and Savard were chirpin all game. Savard supposedly wanted to fight and was calling Sid out for wearin a visor. Sid did not want to start a fight but he was not backing down so he took the visor off to send a message. Savard didn't attempt to start anything after Sid took his visor off.

Moving? Maybe in the standings The team is not going anywhere. One, The team makes a profit where they are now due to the hugely generous TV package they have Two, the owner has lived in NYC all his American life and has no plans to go anywhere Just because the media speculates something, doesn't mean it is true. There has been media speculation since the early 90s that the Islanders were moving..............and every time a building becomes available, the speculation increases. Charles Wang has steadfastly maintained that the Islanders aren't going anywhere.

Rumours abound that in the last few days that Gainey has talked to Tom Renney, Peter Laviolette and Denis Savard about the job. I find it hard to believe that Therrien would be considered as the Montreal franchise has always had a stance against re-hiring people they've fired. One of the reasons behind Therrien's firing in the first place was that he and Gainey (who became GM while Therrien was coach) did not have the same same philosophy.....and it was that exact same philosphy that got Therrien fired in Pittsburgh

Phoenix Coyotes -- Worst organization in sports
Coolio Mendez replied to RedLightGoesOn's topic in General
Agreed.....I think Phoenix and Pitt were the clear winners in this deadline. I still love Carcillo, however they also have both Fedoruk and McGrattan under contract and they don't need all three. Carcillo brings the most value in trade, and that is what they've done. Upshall may not be the fighter that Carcillo is, but he is a un upgrade in skill. Again, I think the gains overall, outweigh the losses. Prucha can score 30 goals with the right team. Upshall could be a solid 20 goal scorer in the right environment and brings a lot of grit as well. Lombardi is a very talented player, and should easily fit on the top 2 lines. Dawes is an experienced NHL player that can play a 4th line role quite well. The loss of Ballard and Morris in the last year does leave a huge hole on D for this team, but I think a glut of forwards and draft picks in the system means that solid defencemen can be had. -
Phoenix Coyotes -- Worst organization in sports
Coolio Mendez replied to RedLightGoesOn's topic in General
They lost Olli Jokinen (dressing room cancer), Derek Morris (didn't want to be there), and Daniel Carcillo (big whoop) They gained Matthew Lombardi Petr Prucha Dmitri Kalinin Nigel Dawes Scott Upshall some draft picks I think the net effect for Phoenix is positive. Worst organization is indeed the Detroit Lions. -
Pittsburgh is only 3 wins out of 4th with 5 weeks to go. Adding offensively skilled players like Guerin and Kunitz, along with the return of Gonchar and the imminent return of Crosby greatly improves the offense. The addition of Craig Adams will add solid play to the 3rd and 4th lines as well I think this is a great move for the Penguins. He is far less selfish than Satan, and should fit in a lot better. This move certainly makes Pittsburgh better than they were 24 hours ago..

Which goalie is starting

If Ovechkin played in the original 6 era, and did his goal dance....he'd be flattened. I've often wondered if Tiger Williams wasn't as good a fighter as he was, how long he would have lasted with his cowboy goal celebration, or Mike Foligno and his goal crease jig. Both men could fight, but had they not been fighters and did those dances....I think they would have been mninced meat. I know a lot of people are knocking Don Cherry's comments about Ovechkin and his antics, but there are ton of NHL coaches and GMs who are thinking the exact same thing - and just didn't want to say it.

"OVIE" or "DATS":Best overall player...you pick
Coolio Mendez replied to Wingaling's topic in General
You seem to be picking and choosing your arguments......you reply to the fact that Iginla gets more ice time than Datsyuk yet neglect to comment on the example (BrindAmour) I provided. Datsyuk has become a very good player (bit of a late blossomer) but he is no Iginla.....the biggest proof is in just watching the game......throw all the numbers/what teams they play for and whatnot out the window...what you are left with is that Iginla is better........as is Lecavalier....as is Crosby.....as is Ovechkin. Datsyuk is very good both offensively and defensively.......if you want to know what kind of player he is comparably speaking......he is somewhere between a Sergei Fedorov (whom he he is not quite as good as...talking in his prime). Actually..........Fedorov is another prime example........as I said he I think he was better than Datsyuk. Let's say Peter Forsberg was the best player of the 90's (as central scouting probably had him there more than anyone else....guessing)......OK Although it may have been Jagr! Fedorov was faster, better defensively, better on the PK, better on face-offs yada yada yada......... BUT.........who was the better player in the 90's? Fedorov or Forsberg? Perhaps I should not use this example because you probably think Fedorov was (when in fact.......he was not top 5 IMO).......another perfect example! Datsyuk isn't the games best all around player. -
"OVIE" or "DATS":Best overall player...you pick
Coolio Mendez replied to Wingaling's topic in General
You shouldn't compare hitting to physicality.......it's laughable. Iginla is a/thee premiere power forward. Comparing face-offs is laughable. Put Iginla on the Wings......better PP numbers........100 points every season......+40 every season! Put Datsyuk on the Flames.......70 points....less PP points.......probably +10 if that...... Heart is another quality.......intangibles. Size. Strength. A good example........... Rod BrindAmour is better on face-offs than Alex Ovechkin Rod BrindAmour is a better leader than Ovechkin Rod BrindAmour is better defensively than Ovechkin Ovechkin leads the NHL in giveaways Rod BrindAmour is a better passer than Ovechkin Rod BrindAmour is a better fighter than Ovechkin Rod BrindAmour is a better penalty killer than Ovechkin ^^^^ All of this is true so is BrindAmour better than Ovechkin? No.
