Miss the good ole days, the enforcers of today, are the least skilled of enforcers in NHL history. The average points for the PIM leaders has been steadily decreasing since the mid 80s and for the last few years has been at it's lowest. Even when you look at the 70s and 80s...Dave Schultz had 30point seasons. Tiger Williams had 30 goals seasons. Probert had seasons over 60 points. Terry O'Reilly with 606 points in 891 games, and a 90 point season. Clark Gillies and Bob Nystrom the list goes on! Then I look at Brian McGrattan............10 points in 143 games. Derek Boogaard...............7 points in 147 games. Jody Shelley.........29 points in 350+ games. Then I look at the Princeton educated enforcer in Anahaim....11 pts in 158 games and 345 PIM. (In 110 games at Princeton he had 118 PIM and 52 pts). Today's enforcer benefit from the 18 skaters/game rule, it allows people to keep talent challenged players like Steve Moore on the roster. Colorado kept Moore, other teams use enforcers. I'm not necessarily asking for a 1 dimensional enforcer, but I'm asking for a guy who loves to throw his body around and when the time comes maybe just maybe get his hands dirty with a scrap from time to time.

A Final Statement: If a team stands up for each other an enforcer is not necessary. Sadly the Wings lack in that department They don't need to eat up a lot of ice time, they just need to be there - and once in while come out and remind everyone. Hows Chris Neil looking over in Ottawa?
-
So the definition of an enforcer to you is a guy who drops the gloves every other game? Drake was always known for his gritty play, first one to jump into a scrum and the last one out. You will always see him finish his checks, never skate away from an opposing player willing to drop the gloves and most importantly he would protect his teammates. Thats an enforcer in my books.
-
How can you forget about Dallas Drake, he was a HUGE part of our Stanley Cup run! I'm all for the enforcer, watching Datsyuk having to fend for himself is pathetic! Wings were being tossed around like rag dolls and watching them helplessly in the little scrums wasn't good either. When you have a guy like Samuelson who's the teams best agitator you've got a problem sir.

You guys thought Crosby's fight was bad check out Semins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvxfXgFtiLU

It was an innocent enough hit as well, Bergeron was the one initiating the contact. I didn't see the entire game, but the clip I saw looked clean on both ends. I could see this possibly being career ending, not just this season.

Osgood has never been a great goalie, just steady and good. Coincidentally, the Wings are good enough that all they have needed is steady. I guess even less than steady can get it done......as his record suggests. He is locked up for the next couple of years so he will be in Detroit but the salary is low enough that he could become the back-up (I think that will happen).........on an average team? He would be less than an average goalie and I can't see a whole lot of teams where he would be the starter even. Let's face it, he has been a back-up for the bulk of his career anyways, even Detroit has recognized this.....they pay him what he's worth. Even last year, Hasek was looked on as the starter for most of the season. I find it funny how the Detroit brass and even Osgood himself have always known that he is what he is..........yet many Wings fans want to paint him as a superstar. Has he ever gotten paid star money? They need to ask themselves why. Has he ever gotten International invites? No.....back up goalies don't play in the Olympics.

Anderson: 8-3-3 .940 SV% 2.15 GAA, with a not so talented team playing in front of him. As far as I can remember he's always been a solid backup goalie. If Anderson continues to play the way he is, Vokoun will be shown the door. Teams cannot continue to pay players 5mil to sit on the bench or play below average when they do play. With todays economy, I am betting Vokoun is on the trading block soon.

Where were you 2 years ago?

 Couldn't have said it better.

For the Wings to win a game they need there offense putting up 6-7 goals a game our wins will come against mediocre teams. The Wings are a .500 hockey team.

My first reaction was like yours, they suspended him for saying that!! I watch it a few more times and see that he is asking to ensure the cameras are running, it is like he his running his own little mini press conference. It was planned and not an off the cuff remark. Does that change anything, not really although I would have enjoyed it more as a off the cuff remark, the fact that it was planned makes me think he should spend a bit more time planning for games and less on his "persona". I think they suspended him to save the embarrassment of what may have happened in the game. I can't see him getting more than a game or 2. What I found more interesting was the reaction of the Stars, ownership and players. Hicks releases statement saying that had the league not suspended him they would have. Turco and Modano were certainly not flattering. Surprisingly not a peep out of his biggest supporter Hull. I guess the bigger question is , does Dallas use this situation to justify getting rid of him and correcting their signing error. Does anyone want him at almost 4M? doesn't seem to be the same player he was with the Rangers? Probably lots sloppy seconds, thirds and fourths hanging around in the minor leagues. Phaneuf was a minus 3 that night. His comments may have had an effect.

The Joe Louis Areana is arguably one of the most quietest buildings in all of sports.

QFT, pisses me to read people say we've only lost 3 games, blah, blah. A loss to me is a loss, anybody care to share what those overtime losses translate to in the post season?
-
Anybody find that puck possession Wings team I've been hearing so much about? Any team with some sort of offensive power can beat these Wings.
-
I also found it awkard how Crawford working play by play for Bertuzzi. Isn't he suing him? Like you said I was a bit surprised about how well spoken Mike Cammalari was.
-
The simple fact that the Wings are getting out shot, and they can NOT play a full 60 minutes! Also forgot what that puck possession team looks like
-
Nope thanks for asking though
-
We havent dominated a game all season, shots have be dead even almost every game. This isnt the Redwings im used to watching. Sure as hell miss that puck possesision team we once were.
-
Who are you to call me a ******* moron? I watched the game and 7 goals in inexcusable hell anythings under .800sv % inexcusable. Now please remove Ozzies testes from your upper lip. BTW I have nothing against OZzie just saying he played a bad game.
-
Osgood with a .806 sv%....yep you guys are right hes not having a bad game
-
Ironic considering when the Wings play the Coyotes away about half the of the Jobbings arena is sporting the Winged wheel.

9 for 16 at least im better than 50 percent
