Let's all thank Sidney for the ratings boost
Coolio Mendez replied to grimace1970's topic in General
The rankings I provided before were for ALL Official NHL merchandize (jerseys, hats, water bottles, glassware, winter wear, jackets, etc (thousands of items actually)) not just jerseys. And the Toronto Maple Leaf are #1 in Canada, and #2 in the US. The Pittsburgh Penguins are #1 in the US. In terms of individual players Sidney Crosby is #1 in both countries. Sorry to break it to you buddy. -
Anybody want to make a wager on how many times Therrian mentions the word "Obstruction"?

On your board there is probably 1 user where you can actually have a realistic hockey conversation for more than 30 seconds without them saying "Detroit Sucks". All I read is "Detroit smells", "they can't sell out because there in the ghetto". And then I blocked the website from my computer. BTW the Pittsburgh sports radio blows ass, they set it out to be the North Americans vs. the Europeans. When I first heard this I was first laughing my ass off. But then I realized they were serious. They actually had a long segment explaining how Detroit were the bad guys because of the Europeans and how the Pens were the saints because of the North Americans. If thats the case hand over Gonchar, Hossa, and Malkin.

Man the Pens board is just as bad as their coach...

Enjoy! Must I add, Malone walked away with a broken nose. Should I bring up Datsyuks hit on Malone, it was just as vicious. -
Pshhh you wouldn't last 30 seconds.

Stupidest comment I've read on LGW, how does it feel? Of course were going to get more calls when we control the puck for more than 70% of the game dips***.

6 Canadian teams account for 31% of league revenue
Coolio Mendez replied to TheWestWing's topic in General
What I meant to say was the 6 Canadian teams left in the NHL are all that Canada can support. Tornoto and Montreal are at a whole new level. Toronto is the hockey media capital. Toronto is the location of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Toronto is the location of the NHL Canadian head offices. Toronto has sold old their arena every game since World War II it is claimed. Toronto is the most financially successful sport franchise in the country. Montreal is just as dedicated. Taking nothing away from Vancouver and Calgary there also up there but those 2 cities are what generate most of the Canadian revenue. -
6 Canadian teams account for 31% of league revenue
Coolio Mendez replied to TheWestWing's topic in General
First of all, the report mentioned was made public, and was for the 2005-2006 season. In 2006-2007 US ticket revenue increased and there was a further increase in 2007-08 Second of all. Montreal and Toronto are the biggest providers of that ticket revenue. The economies in those two cities, and the fans propensity towards the game have allowed them to have the highest ticket prices in the league. No other cities in Canada have the economies to sustain the ticket revenues of Toronto and Montreal. Again, one of the owners of the Winnipeg Jets tried to make a case for buying the Pittsburgh Penguins. In order to make it viable, he needed $90 average tickets. That is higher than Toronto's $88 and Montreal's $83. Nobody in Winnipeg would pay $37 15 years ago, and nobody in Winnipeg will pay $90 today. -
Ya it was on youtube 1 hour after it actually happened. I was laughing pretty hard, but if you look closely he didn't drop it, it snapped on him.

PITTSBURGH (AP)—The Pittsburgh Penguins’ first victory over the Detroit Red Wings on NBC drew the best overnight rating for a third game of the Stanley Cup finals in six years. Pittsburgh’s 3-2 win on Wednesday night earned a 2.8 national rating and an 18.2 rating in Detroit, beating out the 15.9 rating for the Pistons’ matchup with the Boston Celtics. Game 5 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals drew a 5.3 national rating. The rating is the percentage watching a program among homes with televisions, and the share is the percentage tuned into the broadcast among those households with TVs on at the time. The combination of Games 1, 2 and 3 have made this the highest-rated and most-watched opening games of the Stanley Cup finals since Detroit faced Carolina in 2002. The rating for Wednesday night’s game represented an 87-percent increase over last year’s Game 3 between Anaheim and Ottawa. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AsJQ...p&type=lgns The Wings/Pens game 3 pulled in more viewers than the Pistons/ Celtics game 5 only in the great state of Michigan. Impressive I must say.

According to my calculations the Mellon arena is 8.3 times louder than the Joe.

You have a link to this story?

Wasn't 6 years ago the Wings vs. Carolina?

Good game! The Penguins have a chance and now is when the coaching comes into play. They have seen how they match up against the Wings, they make their adjustments and come out for game 2. Should be a battle.

GOOD FIND

I'm sorry bud but you can't compare Malkin, and Crosby to Datsyuk and Zetterberg. In 3 years when those guys are locked up they will be leading every positive stat sheet in the NHL. The duo is Pittsburgh is the best the NHL will see in a while. So that 4 million difference your talking about is worth every penny.
