Parise Watch [update x2]: Red Wings OUT of Running

This is starting to get creepy. We're practically stalking the dude.

Haven't been to the boards in a few days, so this is my first encounter with the new style......very nice! I dig it.

Exit interview with legendary Red Wing Nicklas Lidstrom

Thanks for sharing that, Jack. It was a great read. It's not hard to understand why we as fans are so spoiled when it comes to the players who've donned our sweater over the years. We've had our fair share of bad boys yes, but on the whole.....we've had decent, humble, incredibly awesome guys play their asses off for us 82 games a year.

    Cool Stevie Y story

Every time I watch that video, I feel a slight bit bad for Martin LaPointe. I mean, you have to follow Steve Yzerman in the introduction line.....that couldn't have been easy. Not saying the fans didn't like him or anything, but I mean.....it's Steve Yzerman. The fans would cheer him tying the laces on the boot of his skate.

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

Nick got pulled on stage.....at Joe Louis.....at the RHCP concert. Dude's a rock star.

    Patrick Kane at it again

I expect people in their early 20s to be drunken idiots. I don't expect them to be drunken idiots in public. Keep that s*** at home, Sparkles.

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

Which I figured out a few years ago when he signed that "for-life" contract. The Red Wings have set the trend that the captain of the team is either a lifer, or someone who will play the majority of his career here. Which I have zero problem with - frankly, that's how it should be.

    Red Wings Next Captain

The fact you left out Uwe Krupp, Sean Avery, Mathieu Dandenault, and Stu Grimson tells me your logic is a tad bit on the faulty side.

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

You should put "1 Olympic Gold medal" in the byline under the thread's title. It's not an NHL accomplishment, but it's still a damn impressive feat to have won during his career.

    Red Wings Next Captain

Maybe Pavs doesn't want the captaincy and prefers the role he currently fills. Some players, no matter how fantastic, aren't suited for that kind of job. It's not a knock on Pavs at all that his name wasn't mentioned, or maybe Nick was just running off three names at random and Pavs IS one of the people he was thinking about. Who knows.

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

Didn't Kenny Holland say he'd retire when Nick did? How soon can we get Yzerman on a plane?

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

One thing you can say about the Wings; yes, we've had our fair share of dipsticks over the years who've done dumb s***, but above all else, they represent our team with the utmost class.

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

This is more than the end of an era. This is the end of......everything. I'm kinda at a loss for words for what this represents.

We better not do this to Hank. That's all I'm saying.

    Red Wings Next Captain

Offend is the wrong word. "Infuriate" might be better. No slight on Parise's talent intended, but in order to get the "C" in this town, you have to do more for the Wings than just show up.

It's been Hank's job since he signed that contract. Pavs will take a permanent A, so will Kronner more than likely.

    Thank you #5

"Thank you" seems trite, honestly. I feel like it doesn't quite express the full breadth of our gratitude. We need to come up with something else.

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

We've been mighty ******* privileged to watch the players we've seen over the years, and Nick is certainly no exception. First home game of the '12-'13 season better see #5 get raised to the rafters. It's going to suck like hell to see the Wings take the ice without him, just like it was after Steve retired. Ugh. What a brutal month this has been for me, not just personally. Can't wait for June.

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

If it's a press conference, he's done. We all knew this day would come eventually, no matter how much none of us want to see it. I will say that I'm not going to be overly optimistic about this team's future without him. I foresee dark days ahead for a while. We could weather the storm after Steve retired, but Nick is a horse of an entirely different color. Got damn it.

    Nick, Homer retirement, New Captain

Hank is going to be our next captain. That was practically carved into stone when he signed that contract. I think on paper, Pavs is better than Hank, but the captain also needs to be someone who can address the media and talk to refs/linesman, and that's not Pavs' area of expertise. That's not a knock against the guy, just that everyone has strengths and weaknesses.

#7 Washington Capitals vs. #2 Boston Bruins

Ooh, aren't you cute. Lemme get you a cookie. I've been to Boston. More times than I can count. To see several different sporting events from several different sports. I have family living there. I know people from there that live here, and have lived elsewhere that I have lived. It's a racist city. I've heard it described as a Southern city in the Northeast. I was at a Dunkin Donuts near Fenway Park once, not long before a Yankees/Red Sox game, and heard not one but three people refer to black players on the Yankees as "n-words." As in, "I hope we beat those n-words" and "f*** those n-words." This is Boston circa 2009, not Atlanta circa 1949. To take sports out of the equation entirely, I was visiting a friend who attended Boston College and overheard someone refer to a black woman who got off the T as a "******* darkie." Again, this is in the last few years, not 60 years ago. To say that I'm not surprised about the comments directed toward that black hockey player is to say I'm not ******* surprised, considering the source. The same would be true if I was talking about Klansmen referring to the President. There's a reason many black athletes have said they hate playing in Boston, especially as visiting players, because of the racial hostility coming from the fans. I'm not pulling this s*** out of my ass, here. This is stuff I've seen with my own four eyes (I wear glasses) and my own two ears. Go mess with someone else. Surely there's a clone of mindfly s***ting on the Red Wings around here somewhere.
